University of Surrey edit
Hi
Why do you keep italicising a paragraph, it is not necessary. If you want to emphasise it is a quote from another document, normal quotes (") or { {quote|<something>} } should serve. (Delete spaces between curly brackets for template). Also if it is a quote a citation should be supplied. Regards Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:10, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

I hope I am replying to this correctly! Thanks for your comments. I put in italics because that text is clearly from an old document; I deduce this from the way it is phrased. However, there is no citation so I don't know where it is from. I am very happy to just use quotes. If there were no quotes or italics it just looks like some idiot wrote it, and we can't have that!!! Thanks for the help. Portmeirion18 (talk) 15:56, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

University of Surrey edit
Hi, in this edit you explicitly refer to the University of Surrey as "our", showing that you have a close connection to the institution and may be in upper management from context. Given your extensive and completely non-cited edits to Max Lu, there is reason to believe that you are the Vice Chancellor himself. - Hi there -- I promise that I am not Max. The 'our' was just in the field about describing what I edited -- not in the page content itself -- but I do work for Surrey. I have tried to cite everything I possible could on both the Uni's and Max's pages, but Max's early life doesn't seem to have citations as such -- like where he was born and all. I am finding the editing to be the love child of a labyrinth and a minefield, and I do apologise if I am getting stuff wrong; it is due to ignorance rather than any wish to deceive. :-( I am doing my best and trying to get it right. 131.227.206.122 (talk) 15:57, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Cite things, don't promote people. If you work for Surrey, try not to edit it because of bias, whether intentional or not. On Lu's article, it seems intentional. Okey doke. I have responded to the other comment about Max's page, so please do see that for a direct response to concerns about his page. I didn't realize any of it came across as promotion -- I am really trying hard to just list facts (I can't understand a word of the Research bit, so I figured it was an objective account of his research speciality. If I can't find citations for this, I will remove it entirely. Or, if it is not appropriate at all to include this material I am happy to delete it now; just let me know). The Uni and Max pages (esp Uni) have been extremely inaccurate for a very long time, and I am the only one now with access to accurate info. Otherwise the pages will stay inaccurate. If you would prefer that to my updates it is entirely your call, and I will respect that, obviously. However, if you can give me a week to find references for the Max bits that have been queried, and if I can't find anything I will remove all. I will also remove any details that seem 'unnecessary', as you have mentioned above. I am doing this in good faith with the full intent of being objective and listing sources, and I want to assure you of this. Again, I appreciate your guidance. Hello -- firstly I would like to declare my conflict of interest: I work for the University of Surrey, directly for Max Lu. Therefore I have not attempted to make changes to his page.
I would like to request that the following sentence in the Controversies section (under University of Surrey/Criticism of Salary and Expenses) please be reviewed and edited for accuracy:
The controversy reappeared in early 2019, specifically for Lu, when the University of Surrey announced that they would have to fire staff because of a deficit.[41][42]
The two cited articles do not state that the University announced that staff would have to be fired. The first cited article states that 'compulsory redundancies could not be ruled out'. The second cited article says that the University ‘warned staff of potential cuts.’
I would like to request that the following sentence in the Controversies section (under University of Surrey/Vote of No Confidence) please be reviewed and edited for accuracy:
In May 2019, the staff and students of the University of Surrey held a no confidence vote against the university management, with coverage largely focused on Lu's leadership.[40]
The article cited does not focus on Professor Lu’s leadership, mentioning only the ‘governing body’ as the issue.
