Hi PointsofNoReturn, I wanted to let you know that I have taken the liberty of refactoring your comments in the "Comments and questions" section of the RfC here. I created a new subsection for discussion of the "Length and structure of the note." My reasoning was based on two considerations: 1) Your question was similar to subsequent comments about the note, and b) the heading you used wasn't necessary. I-87 GAN
I removed the GA nomination from I-87. If you'll look, one of the footnotes is citing Yahoo Maps. That site has been shut down, and so the link is dead. You should have switched that footnote over to another online mapping service before nominating. That issue is more minor compared to the other one. There are two roadgeek websites in use. They are both self-published sources. As such they fail to meet the requirement as "reliable sources", in the Wikipedia sense. That means the article fails the GA criteria. They absolutely must be replaced as sources before the article could be passed. Some less-experienced reviewers may or may not pick up on the SPS tags, and it may take you longer than the default 7-day holding period to find replacement citations. It is better to fix those issues before nominating than to hold up a review for a long time or have the review fail. Imzadi 1979 → 17:43, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

- That's a good way to resolve that issue, assuming the replacement link supports the same information the old link is supposed to reference. Yahoo shut down their mapping site very quickly, so all of the links are useless already. That's still the more minor concern compared to finding replacements for roadgeek websites. Since those sites are most commonly used to cite historical data, and that's the hardest information to research in a highway article, they can be quite hard to replace. If you have access to the right sources, it could be easy to find old maps or old newspaper articles to support the information. It might take you a few minutes or a few months to resolve. - The SPSs were tagged with {{self-published source}} already. They're the NYCRoads website and AARoads. I think I saw that you replaced one, but not the other. Also, since it's an American highway, you should really use MDY date formats, so "August 3, 3015" instead of "3 August 2015"". You may have to edit the date to clean up after a script if that's what you're using to insert citations.
As for map citations, most of them aren't complete and should be completed at some point. (This isn't a GA-level issue, but it is if you took the article to ACR or FAC.) After the updates to {{cite map}} earlier this year, a complete map citation should have an author (could be, and usually is, the same as the publishing company), a date or year of publication, a title, the scale, a location of publication, the publisher, and any applicable page/inset/section information to locate the part of the map being cited. If the scale is not printed on the map,
|scale=Scale not givenis an appropriate notation. If the map is online with a variable scale, just omit this parameter. The|cartography=parameter is basically deprecated as the person or entity that did the cartography should be listed as an author. (There are cases though where it should be separated from regular authorship, like the map Chris Bessert drew for the CVB that's used as a source on M-185.) Check http://www.worldcat.org and search for the map to see what they list on it. You may locate an ISBN or OCLC number, and a scale. Sometimes they have a scale that's not printed on the map, so you can list it in brackets like|scale=[c. 1:75,000]. That source looks it should be ok. The "about" page lists different names from the author of the article as editors, so we can tell that they review content before (or after) publication. There's also a media company listed as the publisher, which is a good sign. If you pull up the other stuff written for the site by that author, it looks like the variety of stuff a local reporter at a local newspaper might handle. I'm inclined to say that it's reliable for our purposes, like any local newspaper would be. So to save you some time, here's a citation (including a pre-emptive archive link):

I think based on what I said above that the principle of "editorial control" applies to that website, so that means we can consider it a reliable source. (Editorial control is the process where an editor reviews content to be published and has the ability to kill it before publication. It also means that that editor can issue a retraction or correction of an article previously published.) Imzadi 1979 → 05:36, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

- GAN doesn't care about consistent or complete references. WP:WIAGA is what you should look through first. Those criteria are satisfied if someone can use the references to find a copy of the sources used, even if you used APA for note 1, MLA for note 3, CMOS for note 3 and our templates for note 4, or if you left half of the expected citation details out but left enough in to allow the reviewer judge the reliability of a source. That's why I said before that they "should be completed at some point". If you think the rest of the article meets the criteria, and you have the ability to respond to any issues the reviewer finds, then nominate it. Unless the article has been through an edit war, it should be stable enough. (Minor changes to prep something for nomination, and even the addition of regular content through normal editing aren't enough to make an article unstable.) Then it's a matter of prose quality, reliable references, complying with the OR policy, hitting the major details without going into too much detail, and proper licenses on the graphics/photos used in the article.
- Someday, since this is a 2dI we're discussing, someone will probably want to take the article to ACR or FAC. It's a lot easier to fill in a complete citation when it is added than for someone else to come back later and dig for the missing information. To prep Interstate 96 for ACR or FAC, I had to to go a university library to find copies of a journal article from the 1960s that someone else had added years previously without all of the details. For books or maps that can be located in http://www.worldcat.org or another library catalog, it isn't so bad, but for newspaper or journal articles, it can mean traveling to a library to retrieve missing citation details. - P.S. You might want to look into archiving your talk page. It's getting quite long, and if you follow the instructions, a bot can automate the process for you and put older talk page sections into neat archives. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.  On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history. For this month, and following on the recent Art+Feminism campaign, we'll focus on building better edit-a-thon tools for a variety of different thematic campaigns, and user-testing them with the community. Towards a goal of advancing these tools for wider use with diverse local groups.

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. We will include a look at the organization and planning for our chapter, and expanding volunteer roles for both regular Wikipedia editors and new participants. We will also follow up on plans for recent and upcoming edit-a-thons, museum and library projects, education initiatives, and other outreach activities. We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

- Hi Jytdog, I watch this page. This user is someone I met at a Wikipedia event who has volunteered to independently review (and when satisfied, publish) a few drafts I wrote while under a conflict of interest, following best practices. Users Bluerasberry, Pharos, and Jeremyb are among those that will attest that we are not the same individual, and that PointsofNoReturn is not under any conflicts of interest. - This is not an alternative account. I have over 3000 independent edits on a variety of articles and pages. With relation to the article specifically, I subjected it to a rigorous review, delaying the publishing of the article for 6 months or so. I made an effort to remove any biased points in the article.  The Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon: Met Open Access Initiative is the Metropolitan Museum of Art's first edit-a-thon, being hosted on Sunday May 21, 2017 in Thomas J. Watson Library at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City. The Met is excited to make available over 375,000 images of public domain artworks for contribution to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse collection onsite and remotely. The event is a key marker too of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's first Wikimedian-in-Residence program, with resident Richard Knipel (User:Pharos), along with Wikimedia NYC. We invite you to help enhance Wikimedia communities and platforms with open access images from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The event requires pre-registration. To register, 1) please sign-up with Eventbrite via The Met's website and 2) add your Wikipedia username to the #Participants on the wikimeetup page. Join us for an evening of social Wikipedia editing at the Museum of Modern Art Library's third annual Wiki Loves Pride Edit-a-thon, during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to LGBT art, culture and history. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required. Themes for this event include art related to HIV/AIDS activism and on LGBTQ artists of the African Diaspora as part of the Black Lunch Table project. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.
