Sub-categories

Here comes the next complication! If you go to the Category:Plasma physics page you'll see that at the top there are nine "sub-categories" - and if you click those you may find "sub-sub-categories", and so on. Now, the usual rule here is that if an article is in a sub-category it shouldn't also be in the main category. So your edit at Plasma arc waste disposal is technically incorrect, I'm afraid, because Category:Plasma processing is a sub-category of Category:Plasma physics.

I don't see this mentioned anywhere at Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization, but it is mentioned at Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing pages if you want to read about it. -- John of Reading (talk) 20:40, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Oh sorry thanks is there a way to put these articles linking to plasma category with out being in plasma category. Or is that not good to do. This is why I created List of plasma (physics) applications articles so You could see all elements of plasma physics instead of having to find them in sub categories and some sub categories dont have all plasma actions equations and sources. Provided the article is in one of the sub-categories, sub-sub-categories, etc, then there is no need to link it to Category:Plasma physics. If a reader jumps from an article to a sub-category page, such as Category:Plasma processing, then the "parent" categories are listed at the bottom (There are three in this case). This is one of the standard ways in which Wikipedia articles are linked together by subject-matter.

Yes, Plasma oscillation is in both the parent category and the sub-category. The parent category was added in this edit in 2006. I can't tell if this was a mistake, or was deliberately added as an exception.

I don't think you should add any more "See also" links to your new article without further discussion with more physics specialists, perhaps at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Physics. That would be a good forum to discuss the best name for the article, too, before adding many links that will have to be changed if the article is renamed again. -- John of Reading (talk) 22:03, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
