Little context in Smallest Wikipedia Article

Ubuntu pronunciation

Hi, I saw that you removed the common North American pronunciation of Ubuntu from its article. I understand that this pronunciation is "incorrect" insofar as it differs from the standard South African pronunciation of the word, however I don't think this is particularly important. The point of the encyclopedia article, I think, is descriptive rather than prescriptive. The article should describe the name of the distribution as it is actually used and encountered. Similarly, the article on PostgreSQL describes several common names and pronunciation. I'd like to add back the common American pronunciation of Ubuntu with a note that it is technically incorrect. Ubuntu Criticism

I don't agree with the way that some of the editors have been treating you in regards to the Ubuntu criticism section you added. I've pasted it onto the talk page and tried to start a more productive discussion there. Lets try to get it in shape and then add it back to the article. —mako๛ 12:01, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad you appreciate the support. Keep in mind, I've got my own biases -- I am a core developer and part of the founding team of Ubuntu. I'm more upset at the way that your criticism section has been removed than I am supportive of its contents -- although I think every article should be structured to show multiple points of view. The point of a criticism section should be to highlight notable criticism and should not exist just because. I think we should include one with relevant information but I don't feel the same urgency that you do.

Let's work together to build a strong summary of notable critics that everyone can agree with. We can do that on the talk page and then move it into the article when that's done. —mako๛

Wikipedia is not about truth. It is about truth through verifiability. If you cannot find sources to back up your claims, it has NO place on wikipedia. Because they are the same product with different software. It is still in essence the exact same OS, just with different features and desktop environment.

Leave the Ubuntu disambiguation page alone. Switching it with Ubuntu (Linux Distribution) will simply result in an edit war that you will lose.jonathon 06:48, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Fedora 7 Bluecurve image

Hi, I was just wondering why you have removed the Bluecurve theme image from the Fedora 7 section on Fedora (Linux distribution). Considering it is the standard theme for Fedora, I would have thought it should be kept in favour of the other Fedora 7 image. JGXenite 15:53, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Fedora (disambiguation)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Fedora and pasted it into Fedora (disambiguation). This is what we call a "cut and paste move," and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Your pointing out of the vandalism is appreciated; in the future, however, please do not add this information to the article itself; This just results in more information in the article that will have to be deleted; Bringing it up on the talk page will get editors' attention just as easily (alternatively, you could contact one of use who regularly edit the article or talk on the talk page directly and ask for help).

For future reference, if you goto the history of the article, and click on the date and time of the edit, you will see the old edit of the page. Clicking "edit this page" at the top of that page should bring you to an edit of the old version (with a warning at the top). Submitting that page will result in reverting the vandalism. Cheers.
