Speedy deletion of Neath Abbey Ironworks
editA tag has been placed on Neath Abbey Ironworks requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. new articles
editI see you are creating a number of new articles some of which have been deleted and more will be deleted if they cannot be improved. Please add sources ie where you have got the information from (book/magazine ect) and allow for more context ie Fossick & Hackworth begs the following questions. Where are they based - from when to when did they exist as a company. Handovers? Obviously as with any company notability has to be established - that is where above sources come into play. Agathoclea (talk) 12:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- And please check for existing articles on the topic before you create new ones - for example, Carmarthen & Cardigan Railway which you wrote has already been covered at Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway, so I have redirected your article to the existing article. Regards, BencherliteTalk 12:50, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Same with Monmouthshire Railway. BencherliteTalk 12:54, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for creating articles about some of the smaller UK railway companies. You might want to condider adding {{UK-rail-stub}} at the bottom of any new article you create. This, amongst other things, helps other editors with the same interests become aware of your new article and helps in the organisation of Wikipedia. Regards WhaleyTim (talk) 11:32, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
WikiProjects
editYou may be interested in a couple of the WikiProjects here - groups of editors with similar interests, who can help and advise each other on improving existing articles, creating new articles and locating sources for articles. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Railways and Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales, and see what you think. If you need any further help, then Agathoclea or I will be only too glad to try and assist - just ask us on our talkpages. Regards, and happy editing, BencherliteTalk 13:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Notability of Watlington & Princes Risborough Railway
editA tag has been placed on Watlington & Princes Risborough Railway requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Dpmuk (talk) 21:21, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
- I have removed the speedy deletion tag and added a quick reference to the article. Please add references to your new articles to avoid this happening in future. Regards, BencherliteTalk 22:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

"&" in page titles
editIf you're creating new articles, please don't use "&" instead of "and" in the title. Wikipedia standard practice is to use "and". If you don't, then sometimes you miss that there is already an article about the topic, or that there is a relevant article you can link to: e.g. you tried to link to Narberth Road & Maenclochog Railway which is a redlink (at present), when you could and should have linked directly to Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway. And PLEASE add sources to your new articles, or they will keep on being deleted. Please ask for help if you don't understand this. Regards, BencherliteTalk 18:47, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
- I suggest there should be an exception if an ampersand (&) really is part of an organisation's name. For example, apparently the Wilts & Berks Canal Company's full name really did include three abbreviations, so this is reproduced in the title of the Wikipedia article. However given Wikipedia's policy on ampersands, it might be a good idea in such an article to explain that this is the case and cite a suitable source to prove it.
- Thankyou for contributing to Wikipedia: please don't give up. If you cite enough sources for your material you should do much better. On my talk page you'll see I've had a few run-ins for similar reasons! I still get frustrated but I've survived, learnt a few things and get into a lot less trouble now. Motacilla (talk) 12:07, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Good point about "&" when it's part of the name; in those cases, it's best to create a redirect from a version of the title with "and" to make sure that as many people can find and link to the article as possible. Regards, BencherliteTalk 16:04, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Welcome!
editWelcome to Wikipedia. I see you have an interest in railway-related articles, so you might want to add your name to the list of contributors of the Wikipedia trains project. I see that some of your articles have been getting a bit of a hard time! Do not be discouraged; this happened to me when I first started last year. It takes a while to get used to how Wikipedia operates and what they're looking for. One tip: if you're creating a new article or adding a major revision, it's useful to create it in a 'sandbox' (e.g. User:Pembroke Castle/Sandbox) until it's ready and then copy it into its final destination. That stops overenthusiastic Wikipedians tagging the article for deletion or improvement before its finished. Regards. --Bermicourt (talk) 06:50, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
