Spy Week editathon edit

Hello again, Padraigin1!
Thank you so much for taking part in the Spy Week editathon. I hope that you enjoyed the day, and that we'll see you on Wiki again soon.

Now that you've learned the basics of editing using Wikipedia’s Visual Editor, I hope that you'll stay logged in and edit or create more articles. I've added some booklets and some links below that you may find useful.

If you're not feeling bold enough to write an (other) article straight away, why not try a small edit first, or adding a link? Don't worry about being perfect, Wiki is a constantly evolving entity. Fortunately there's a whole team of editors just like you who can help.

Welcome! Now have some cake...

You can't break Wikipedia, but in case you're still nervous here are some pages that you might find helpful, especially the first one which covers the main things to remember about using Visual Editor.

The University of Edinburgh are also looking into running lots more editathons over the course of the residency – details are still to be confirmed but will be updated on my project page here: Wikipedia:University_of_Edinburgh
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Remember, if you are writing on a talk page, please sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. See you soon! Stinglehammer (talk) 22:15, 14 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Eileen Burgoyne edit

Hallo Patricia and welcome to editing. I wondered about creating this article myself a few days ago but settled on Ginette Jullian as my contribution to the Women in Red Spying event.

Just a note about references: you should aim to give a reference complete enough so that it would still be identifiable even if the web link breaks, site gets moved, or a reader has a printout of the article. I've upgraded your refs to make them clearer - especially the two newspaper articles, where we can add author, article title, and date. Similarly if ever you cite a book you've found online at Google books etc, you should write a reference just as if it was a printed book (ie author, title, publisher, isbn, chapter author/title if appropriate, page number(s), etc), with the URL as an added bonus.

I hope you've enjoyed making this first contribution to the encyclopedia and that you'll stay around and help build this amazing encyclopedia. Happy Editing! PamD 11:52, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wiki meet edit

Hi, you are cordially invited to our next ScotWiki meetup. The National Library of Scotland is extremely accessible via train for those travelling from outside the city, and via bus for Edinburgh residents. Its visitor centre offers food, drinks, and WiFi and should give us plenty of room to meet and have a chat after work!

Join the ScotWiki Mailing list!

If you can't attend this meetup, but are interested in possibly attending other Wikimedia events in Scotland, or want to keep track of what's going on in the Scottish World of Wiki, join the ScotWiki Mailing List now!

Hopefully see you there, Stinglehammer (talk) 11:35, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
