I've done a mass reversion of your edits, with apologies; going through them individually was too problematic as there were other reversions of others' edits involved. Some of your changes were good and should be restored, except: in some cases, you removed what appeared to be legitimate sources and replaced them with fact tags; and, some changed Wikilinks are unnecessary per Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. Also, "(year) in film" links were removed during the featured article process and should stay out per consensus. Please feel free to write with any questions. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 21:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Didn't know that about redirects, now noted, thanks. --Oscarthecat  19:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on this page, and apologies for the reverts (cherry-picking the good from the bad while the article was Main Page might have taken a long time, losing some edits along the way anyway). Also, good catch on the dead link; that one was particularly tough to find in the first place, and the article is fortunate that Newsday's free archive page includes the instant information. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:16, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
I can look it up if need be but, during the FAC process, it was pointed out per WP:MOS that "(year) in film" should stay in lists and out of text, and that full dates should not "pipe" (that is, link to something other than precise text). RadioKirk (u|t|c) 20:49, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi kirk - I'm working off this - If a date includes both a month and a day, then the date should normally be linked in order to allow readers' date preferences - see [1] --Oscarthecat  20:54, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay that may have changed since last I'd read it, I recall linking only when the full date is present. Notice, though, that the year's page is linked, not "(year) in (whatever)". Thanks for the link, I was busy elsewhere. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 21:17, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the feedback. Note that the section on TV looks as below to people with date prefs...I've added the bold emphasis. I propose that we lose the "...in film" type year.

Television

 * Another World - 1996–1997
 * Bette (2000–2001) (appeared 2000-10-11, in pilot episode only)
 * Punk'd - one episode, December 14, 2003 (see above)
 * Saturday Night Live - Host, 2004-05-01
 * 2004 MTV Movie Awards - Host, 2004-06-10
 * That '70s Show - "Mother's Little Helper" episode, 2004-11-10
 * Saturday Night Live - Cameo for Weekend Update, December 11, 2004
 * Saturday Night Live - Host of the season finale, May 21, 2005
 * Saturday Night Live - Host, 2006-04-15

--Oscarthecat  21:40, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that section is badly overlinked, too. Also, I noticed you changed date syntax in a ref link to the xxxx-xx-xx format, and to me it's the only one that shows up that way. (Edit:apparently, "accessyear" doesn't work in "cite news".) :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 21:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Richard III (1955 film)

Hi Oscarthecat, I think I've found another article that could use you special talents. Richard III (1955 film) is getting close to an FA, but the referencing there is a little strange, as well as some of the formatting. It would be great if you could give it a look over. Thanks Man! --P-Chan 14:57, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Had a stab, looking a bit better now. Been doing some work on the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest article recently, if you want to cast your eye over it, see if it can be improved? --Oscarthecat  20:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your contributions to said article. It's much appreciated. I have a cat called Oscar too! ....(Complain)(Let us to it pell-mell) 23:39, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

No probs. Hope he's not a diabetic like mine.... --Oscarthecat  20:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

SOAP

Hi. This sentence is supported by the LA Weekly article:

Some fans have taken to attending the movie wearing black suits and afro wigs.

But this claim is not, and the reference is just a link to a digg page that links to a forum:

This convention arose out of an elaborate in-joke that originated among users of 4chan in reference to their "/b/lockades" of Habbo Hotel.[1]

The reference on the third sentence is merely a list of suggested audience participation gags. In order to support a comparison to RHPS (which is not a comparision to take lightly, considering the well-documented history of that movie), I'd think we need some sort of article documenting that this participation actually happened:

Some showings have involved audience participation similar to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.[2]

Proposed Policy change

Hello, Oscar :-)! I've proposed a change to Wikipedia's External links policy about how links to fan sites should be handled. Please take a look here. Thanks a lot! - Mjg0503  02:57, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support! - Mike  13:14, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

RfA nomination #2

- Mike  14:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

If possible, please move the page to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Oscarthecat 2 to follow the convention of second nomination. (See Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nominate) I didn't perform the move to avoid edit conflict with you. Many thanks. --WinHunter (talk) 13:55, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
No problem, now done. Ta. --Oscarthecat  13:58, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome! Hope it works out for you this time. It was very close last time... - Mike  15:09, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

I've added an optional 4th question to your RFA that you might like to answer. Thanks,  Netsnipe  ►  16:12, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Netsnipe - answer now posted, please just post a followup if they raise any further questions. Cheers, --Oscarthecat 16:27, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I supported your RfA but continue to be troubled by one issue, viz., whether you might properly protect pages, block users, and close deletion discussions with what appear to be exceedingly large paws. The tuxedo cat with whom I live is a rather poor typist and in trying to block one user would likely block twelve. Might you commit to using only your nose for administrative actions? Sig

Wow, Wikipedia really doesn't like cool sigs do they? I remember that you used to have a really crazy one, and now they've knocked it down to what it was when you started! I guess I'll have to remove Old Glory from my sig too :-( - Mike  15:41, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

So tell me, how does one automate the signature to throw that flag in?

And it worked the first time I tried it. Excellent! Thanks - Williamborg (Bill) 19:37, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

name/nom

I'm suprised it wasn't taken either. I guess if it doesn't cause confusion I'll keep it. And yes, I think you're well on your way to being an admin :-) - Mike 20:03, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

link to Rolls-Royce

Hello, when you want to link to the article about a Rolls-Royce, please do not link to Rolls-Royce, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Rolls-Royce plc by writing out Rolls-Royce. Regards, Jeff3000 06:32, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that Jeff - schoolboy error on my part. --Oscarthecat 08:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Admin

Congratulations! You're now an administrator. Two pages you might find useful are the administrators' reading list and the administrators' how-to guide. Good luck with your new role. Angela. 15:13, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Many thanks to Mike1 for nominating me, and all the folks who subsequently voted. --Oscarthecat 15:46, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations, Oscar!! I knew from when I first cam accross you on the Calvin and Hobbes talk pages that you would be an admin someday. Glad I could help :-). - Mike | Patch 18:32, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
 • Congrats. Hadn't been watching the RFA page so I missed this, and I'm glad it didn't matter. Anytime you need a hand, let me know. Steve block Talk 20:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Admin help!

Hey Oscar! I need help from an admin at Opera (web suite). I would like to move it to Opera (Internet suite) because it accesses the whole Internet, not just the World Wide Web. It also handles tasks such as e-mail, and newsgroups. Internet suite is the proper term for this, not web suite. Could you please delete Opera (Internet suite) so that I can move the page there. Thanks! :-) - Mike | Patch 02:16, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it can be done that way, but I would lose the page's current edit history in the process. So, it is preferable to be simply move the page, which I would need the deletion of the redirect page for. - Mike | Patch 19:41, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, it's done. See for yourself: Opera (Internet suite). - Mike | Patch 19:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Linux, huh?

I'm using a Mac myself, and I love it, but I've heard a lot of good things about Linux too. - Mike | Patch 23:10, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Changes on years links in Half-Life 2

Hi. I partially reverted your changes regarding the year links in Half-Life 2, due largely to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games's Manual of Style on release dates, which notes that year links, at least during the games' releases, should include a 2006 link instead of a 2006 link, without further specifications.

ZS - thanks for the information.
I hadn't realised that the gaming project had its own guidelines for dates. Elsewhere, I'd been endeavouring to fix dates such as "September 25, 2006" to be formatted in the user's own preferences (by making it "September 25 2006", which in my case formats it to "2006-09-25". Making it "September 25 2006" wouldn't format it for user prefs, but no matter, it's what the project wants.

Besides, the idea that solitary years should only be linked as "xx in video gaming" boggles the mind: Does that mean that dates which are noted in only incomplete dates would be linked as such, while full dates shouldn't?

Indeed : wiki date formatting doesn't work for dates such as "September 25 2006".

Don't get me wrong, it's understood that this would hinder the date from being displayed if different date preferences are applied. It is also interesting to note that Wikipedia:WikiProject Films doesn't apply the "xx in film" link as extensively as in the computer and video gaming project, so it would be a good idea to bring this up in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computer and video games, and see if a compromise can be achieved. Thanks. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 10:08, 13 September 2006 (UTC) ╫

Yes, quite often a solitary year gets mentioned, so making this a "xx in film" would make sense.
I'll try starting a dialog on the project page, as it's a shame for people wanting dates in a particular format to have it not work for some project areas.
Again, thanks for the feedback, appreciated. --Oscarthecat 18:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Editor review

Hey, Oscar! I've got a little editor review going and I'd appreciate if you'd share your thoughts (good and bad), if it's not to much trouble. It can be found here. Thanks!! - Mike 00:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Helping out with the backlog

Hi there and congratulations on your brand new sysop flag. Now that you are an admin, you might want to help the community in a way you weren't able to before. The obvious example is clearing out the Category:Administrative backlog :-) You might want to start with Wikipedia:Requested moves which I find the easiest to deal with. Enjoy! :-) --Dijxtra 14:56, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

A question if I may

If a user has never had any prior warning history, does it take an admin to add the test template?  Daniel_123  ►  14:01, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

No, anyone can add a or . Admins watch the vandalism in progress page and do the blocking on behalf of other users. --Oscarthecat 14:12, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
There's a good list of the templates and how to use them at WP:VANDALISM#Dealing_with_vandalism. Let me know if any questions. Regards, --Oscarthecat 14:13, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Straw poll

Oscar, would you mind coming to vote at the straw poll about my propsed changes to WP:EL? I need a few more support votes to make it happen. And if you oppose that's okay too, because I'll be able to asses what should be changed. - Mike 21:27, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Star Fox Adventures edit

I partially reverted your edit to Star Fox Adventures. On the CVG project talk page, the consensus was to get rid of the flag icons and replace them with superscript abbreviations. See here and here. Thunderbrand 22:54, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

User talk:Sdalink

I should have been more specific. I was not accusing sdalink of vandaling articles. He has been blanking his talk page again and again. Please look at the history of his talk page. Cynrin 16:14, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi

I see you reverted my edits to some pages. I'm not angry as I know you did so to benefit Wikipedia, but...I really don't know what I did wrong. Was it some unintentional vandalism or something? If so, I apologize. Well, bye.--Suit-n-tieSuit's Talk 05:19, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply.--Suit-n-tieSuit's Talk 21:52, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Mr. Lefty's RfA thanks

  Hi, Oscarthecat, and thanks for supporting me in my recent request for adminship, which succeeded with a final tally of 70/4/4. I hope I can live up to your expectations, and if there's ever anything you need, you know where to find me! --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 00:19, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi- me again- I need to move Beavis and Butt-head Do America to Beavis and Butt-Head do America, as the title is misspelled. I can't though, because the latter already exists. Could you help me out? Thanks.--Suit-n-tieTalk About The Suit 23:48, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
