Hello! I am looking after the content pertaining to National Portal of India, we are to create many sub-pages and enrich wikipedia with authentic information. Thanks !!

Reverting back to Old Status, India.gov.in

Dear ! I have made certain wise changes to the page [India.gov.in|India.gov.in], but I found it reverted back to old state by you. I thank you for your prompt review, but the changes made were mandatory. I work at National Informatics centre, Indian Government and I am authorized to enrich authentic content representing work done by NIC. You clearly have a conflict of interest with the subject. You removed all the independent references and added lots of external links to your own site, as well as adding promotional new content. None of this is acceptable to Wikipedia, and the fact that you claim the changes made were mandatory would be laughable to any serious Wikipedia editor. Use the 'New section' tab to automatically place them at the bottom where they belong (I see this was above for several days before adding the helpme template, but I've copied it as relevant to the request). Do you mean Portal:India, or another or several in Category:India portals? Wikipedia:WikiProject India may also interest you. Name change needed, and some clarifications

Hi Nationalportal. I'm Qwyrxian, an admin here at Wikipedia. I have to give you some advice and ask for you to make some changes. First of all, you need to change your username--per our username policy, you cannot have a username that represents a group or company. The easiest way for you to get a new name is to go to WP:SIMPLE and fill out the instructions there, requesting a username that represents only you (this doesn't need to be your real name, just something that isn't connected to a company or organization).

Second, I saw the information on your userpage, and the comments from User:Mean as custard above, and think I need to clarify how Wikipedia works. No one is "authorized" to maintain certain information on Wikipedia. That is, your department cannot assert ownership over the Wikipedia articles related to it. Wikipedia articles are edited collaboratively, by anyone with interest in a topic. This does not mean that you cannot contribute to that topic, but does mean that you will have to work with others, and ensure that your editing follows our policies.

This brings me to the point that Mean as custard raised about conflict of interest. While we do not forbid people from editing articles with which they have a financial, professional, or familial connection, we strongly recommend against it. It is very difficult to be neutral and avoid original research when writing about your employer, but both of these things are required by Wikipedia's rules. For example, your changes to India.gov.in included a bunch of words designed specifically to praise it, like an advertisement; that's not allowed. Similarly, the point of a WP page is not to drive traffic to your site, so we don't allow people to add direct links to all the different parts of the site--only the one link to the main site is allowed. Instead of editing directly, we recommend that people with a COI make comments on article talk pages, suggesting changes.

Dear Qwyrxian !

Thanks for your guidance.I will change the username as suggested by you. Now, as you raised question about 'authenticity' and 'appraisal', India.gov.in is neither a company, nor a financial organization. It is National Portal of India, that in itself serves as authenticity guarantor to thousands of links/references on WP. In the article, India.gov.in the content is outdated and it needs to be updated as new sections are created on the national portal. I simply followed the trends as it was done earlier. For e.g. National_e-Governance_Plan, this page in itself gets certified for its authenticity once you refer something back to its mother page. Its not about dealing with an individual website or organization, rather all the information is quoted and referred back to www.india.gov.in Indian Government initiative- National Portal of India. Now, if you allow should i proceed with making changes with changed username. Though,- nationalportal- is a generic term that could be implied for any country.

It doesn't make a difference if the portal is owned by a private company, a charity, or a national government; what matters is that Wikipedia articles are not here to promote those portals/sites/organizations, etc. In other words, the Wikipedia article should not be a big long list of all of the different features of the national portal. In fact, it probably should only describe the portal generally, and give specific information only when independent, reliable sources have commented on them. Which leads to the bigger picture here: Wikipedia articles are in general not supposed to be based on information from the source itself. We try, generally, to focus on what independent sources have said about the subject. For example, the page you mentioned National e-Governance Plan, is actually not a good page. Thank you for bringing it to my attention; when I have time, I'm going to go in and remove almost all of the information from that page as well, and definitely remove all of the links. The policy on external links is found at WP:EL; the quick summary is that we want only a small number of very well selected links, and we definitely do not link to the subpages of a subject's main page. Again, the thing to understand is that Wikipedia is not here to help people use your site, to help direct people to "useful" parts of your site, or to otherwise benefit your site.
