Inside Luxury Travel

Hi, I have given my best attempt at putting up a Wikipedia Page for a TV show I work on, "Inside Luxury Travel" I see it has been tagged for Speedy Deletion due to copyright infringement, The show starts Airing in the UK tomorrow, (Mon 7th Dec) I believe the content that has been flagged as copyright, is PR material supplied by Inside Luxury Travel which has then been posted on the websites that have been flagged up. i.e. the Synopsis of the series was written by "Inside Luxury Travel" and sent to The Travel Channel, I will check this is accurate, but to the best of my knowledge it is.

The curriculum is a part of the story of Italian design and so I don't see any conflict in this. We are the only who can authorize the pubblication... If you disagree you do not understand that reason. So remove the article for me isn't really a matter...... It seems there is some confusion over this man's name. He uses both O.V. Michaelsen AND Ove Michaelsen and searches under both these names result in the same person. I am a fan of his writing and feel that 'wordplay' (all the fun things you can do with language) is an important idea in these less than literate times. Please advise me on how to keep his page from being deleted.

Wordplay is indeed important, especially the intentional sort: there's far too much accidental wordplay around lately, from politicians and press people who should know better... :-) What's needed for the article Ove Michaelsen is to establish WP:Notability for the article's subject, with supporting references from WP:Reliable sources. O.V. Michaelsen page

Thanks for responding Thud and for your work at Wikipedia.

In reference to Mr. Michaelsen I'd like to mention that it's a unique and small group of enthusiasts that enjoy the 'wordplay' he does and it doesn't have the sort of mass appeal of other kinds of writing. Still, I believe it would be a shame to have one less reference to this sort of intellectual fun on Wikipedia. There is a page for wordplay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word_play but it is very broad in it's interpretation of the subject and O.V.'s (Ove to his friends) incredible palindromes, etc. aren't the  kind of mass market stuff that gets much attention. I think it would be a shame to lose this clever work when 'pop' culture is becoming the ONLY culture left.
If I remove the musician part (he's always been an itinerant musician and songwriter without notable success) would that help?

The Hyperic article was speedyed because it was created by the Senior Director of Marketing at Hyperic, and was exceptionally spammy. Both these circumstances warrented Speedy deletion. Hyperic has now been sternly warned to distance themselves from that article and related articles. That former editor of Word Ways was Ross Eckler, author of Making the Alphabet Dance. Michaelsen contributed to that major book, and to the book The National Puzzlers' League: The First 115 Years. Another review on that Amazon.com site was by Ted Clarke, editor of Wordsworth magazine in England. For the sake of fairness, please mention the names of those reviewers. Why did you bring up the comments by an anonymous reviewer? You are not giving this a fair shake.

Tagging of User:Walaa adel/Seasonal affective disorder

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on User:Walaa adel/Seasonal affective disorder. I do not think that User:Walaa adel/Seasonal affective disorder fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because A10 is for articles, not pages in userspace. A user might copy an article to userspace to work on edits, or to draft a fork or a related article. There is very little reason to speedy delete pages in userspace that are not copvios or attack pages, other than by request of the author. I request that you consider not re-tagging User:Walaa adel/Seasonal affective disorder for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. I declined all the ones I found. However another admin seems to have mass-deleted them on other (unclear) grounds. As I was going to list them on WP:MFD shortly i won't complain. But do be careful with spedy deletes -- thes really should be very clear cut -- anything that doen't fit the speedy criteria should be declined, and will if I happen to be the reviewing admin. This is a bit of a procedural gray area, since as you say A10 isn't meant to apply to userspace articles. But this editor was already asked to stop mass copy-&-pasting to their userspace, especially since in all cases they've left the categories uncommented in the copy, creating extra work for other editors (I ran across the problem when categorizing for WP:UNCAT).

The rationale offered to the admin who blocked them in October for refusing to stop was that they intended to translate them, but the editor never explained why copying a large collection of apparently unrelated articles (Jerry Seinfeld, Warfarin and Cranberry??) to their userspace was necessary for this purpose.

Note also that not a single attempt at translation has been done yet by this editor, as all their effort since at least August has been going into collecting copies. See Special:Contributions/Walaa adel for the remaining articles: I only nominated the 32 newest ones. The grounds given by the admin who speedied some of the ones I nominated was vandalism, which since they've already been asked to stop appears to be valid here.

Your decline was clearly done for best adherence to procedure, against which I obviously can't argue, but can you suggest an alternative method for discouraging mass copy & pasting articles and leaving them unchanged for months, regardless of intentions? Maybe prods would be sufficient here, but a more general solution would be useful. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 09:11, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

When i looked further and saw what was going on, I realized that these pages were not serving a useful purpose and could be a problem. I intended, later that day, to do a Mass nomination at WP:MFD, but when I returned all the ones listed for speedy had been mass-deleted by another admin. This may well have been technically out-of-process, but under the circumstances I didn't (and don't) intend to object, although I generally do object to out-of-process deletions. Now that I learn there are (or may be, I haven't double checked yet) others still around, i will do such an MFD nom. I don't think this happens often enough that a special procedure is needed to deal with it -- in fact i can't recall a similar case. It seems to me that MFD is sufficient for the purpose -- Prod is, as I understand it, also not for userspace pages. DES ^(talk) 14:24, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

A lot of people are new to these pages, as I am, and I doubt they any of the supporters know one another, or are aware of how to navigate this confusing system. I've made mistakes (correcting a misspelling on the discussion page and adding in parentheses that No. 4 above (Anagrams] is a novel, were two of my blunders, unaware that it was not acceptable). It's a relief that there ARE administrators to oversee these exchanges. THANK you! The subject of the three books in the article is unfamiliar to most people, and searching under titles of other books that seem similar in subject (No. 4 above is a novel) does not do Michaelsen's books justice. A major difference between his books and others that seem similar is the extensive research and meticulous lists of previously unknown sources dating back four centuries.

What IS fortunate is that this isn't a majority vote. It seems to me that there has been a below-the-belt attitude here, and maybe supporters of the article feel taunted to lose their cool in frustration. Imagine having an honest article posted on Wikipedia to have your achievements minimized by someone with little knowledge on the subject. I hope the administrators will consider this and resolve it either way. I can find only one example of taunting, belittling and unfriendly language in the AFD:

Everyone who contributed to WP:Articles for deletion/Ove Michaelsen, apart from one editor and his sockpuppet, thought that under the existing guidelines the subject was not eligible for inclusion. This doesn't mean the subject is non-notable outside of Wikipedia: I personally think his anagrams are pure genius, but that's entirely irrelevant - what matters is consensus around agreed guidelines and principles. If further evidence is found supporting the subject's notability per WP guidelines, then the article can always be re-created.

If you thought the evidence you posted here on my talk page was relevant, then why didn't you contribute it to the AFD discussion yourself? I thought that only one of the links you posted above was relevant (and said so immediately in my reply above), so I posted that to the AFD, and also noted there that you had additionally posted from other, unverifiable sources on my talk page. I have no opinion about the subject, which is fortunate since my opinion has nothing to do with it. It's against Wikipedia policy to blank out content simply because you don't like it. If you want to make a major change to an article, it's necessary to discuss it on the talk page first and get consensus for the change. I can see no vandalism to Kosal state movement since 21 Dec., although there was blanking of content on 24 Dec. at Western Orissa, to which Kosal currently redirects. I have no expertise in the geography of that part of the world, and therefore have no opinion on what the correct title of the article should be, but the user who blanked referenced content has been warned and their vandalism reverted. Further, Wikipedia has the tendency to put pages up for deletion for no apparent reason. I say this because I often see pages that meet all of Wikipedia's standards up for deletion, causing me to think this is a personal matter regarding vendettas that Wikipedia editors carry out for personal reasons unknown to the general public, as opposed to actual academic research (present company excluded). While I admire that Wikipedia's editors (present company included) are academic and scholarly in nature, I believe that they're too quick to flag and delete (again... present company included).

Lucas' page meets all Wikipedia standards, and after researching him on the internet and at the local library, I found him to be noteworthy, and his citations to be valid.

I see from your userpage that you are interested in languages. I am too, my favourite languages are English (at which I am largely self-taught, but I think the outcome is good) and French (learned at school, I regret not very well though). English is my favorite language too so far, but I'll never learn all there is to know about it, as it constantly evolves and adapts to wherever it travels. I can speak reasonable Spanish, French, Norwegian and German, but my Italian, sadly, is limited to the very basic year-one sort, for getting around your beautiful country without excessively annoying anyone who lives there. I'm very interested in the indigenous languages of the Americas, especially the Yupik languages, and hope to move one day to central Alaska for long enough to properly learn Central Alaskan Yup'ik.

Your section on English pronunciation makes good use of the IPA template. Tell me, are you familar with "Ghoti"? :-) Ghoughpteighbteau currently redirects there too, but I'd say it deserves its own article so I've just added a section there for it. MuffledThud (talk) 11:13, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Thud, I appreciate your edits on the Anthony Sattin piece. You'll see from my edit history that I've created more than 300 articles in the past 5 years, mostly stubs on topics not yet existing (theatre, literature, etc). Very few of these, if any, have been deleted since. I am well aware of Wiki's notability criteria and care enough not to litter this place with pointless trivia. As for the expansion of the stubs, the inline referencing and all the rest of it, I'm happy to leave it to the efforts of others more methodical than myself. However, I would like to add that I find your repeat addition of the notability tag unnecessary and discouraging. Even the most casual search will indicate that this is a notable travel author. As for other articles that also ought to be merged, please have a read of WP:OTHERSTUFF: it's easy to find lots more articles that should be merged or deleted, and they all get cleaned up eventually, one at a time. MIT-Entrepreneurship and Innovation turns out to be just one option within MIT's MBA program, and not even a degree in itself, so it's a particularly good example of a topic not notable enough for its own article, and I've now merged it into MIT Entrepreneurship Center where it belongs.

Harvard's, London's, Wharton's, Columbia's and INSEAD's MBA programs, the most famous in the English-speaking world, don't have their own articles. Can you point out any examples at all of MBA programs with their own separate articles on Wikipedia? I can't find any. MuffledThud (talk) 09:02, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
