Thrud
editThanks for taking the time to review the Thrud article. I've been thinking about FACing it, but will act on your suggestion to expand the lead before doing so. GDallimore (Talk) 11:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

You are invited!
editNew York City Meetup
|
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).
Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.
You're also invited to subscribe to the public Wikimedia New York City mailing list, which is a great way to receive timely updates.
This has been an automated delivery because you were on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 03:15, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Stubs
editHey, you disappeared from IRC right after you tipped me off about the stubs. I merged the two CR 516 bannered routes into the main CR 516 article. I figured I'd let the Monmouth County routes sit around for a bit, seeing as how they at least have a history section. (Who knows? I think that even qualifies them for Start-class as is!) -- Kéiryn talk 03:56, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

NY Pics
edit380 shouldn't be too tough for me. In fact, I thought about stopping and snapping a picture of the NY 394/CR 380 intersection in Falconer yesterday, but I didn't do it. I'll will try to get that photo, or another one, sometime soon.
I don't get down near CR 58 too often, but I'll make a mental note of it and try to remember my camera the next time I do get down that way. :) Skudrafan1 (talk) 20:19, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, all right! The photo is all you needed before you nominated 380 as a GA? Best of luck with that. And way to go on receiving a Triple Crown at the same time I did -- nice coincidence. :) Skudrafan1 (talk) 18:31, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

It's been a great two years - we had some rough patches for the first, oh, 23 months of it ;) But, I very humbly thank you for being a good colleague and friend, and I thank you for nominating me. Well, we didn't quite make it to WP:100, but 92/2/2 isn't too shabby! I've already deleted one of my useless sandboxes (a redirect), and I plan on using my adminship tools appropriately and occassionally, so I can keep my status in the top ten of featured contribution lists. Thanks for the barnstar, too, and the only way it would have been topped would have been a guaranteed winning spot on TPIR ;) ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 23:21, 17 March 2008 (UTC) |

- Made a comment on the talk page of 16. I am puttering away at creating articles to reduce red links...and thought I would peek at the chart. I did use the example at Saskatchewan Highway 913 just that I used the km to mi template convertor for reasons stated at the talk page. Any advise on how to proceed would be cool once you read what/why I did my chart thingie like that. SriMesh | talk 01:36, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed red link on SK Hwy 16, will fix the template on Sk Hwy 58 now. Would like advice on template chart for 16, as I used the one from Saskatchewan Highway 913, and the only items SriMesh | talk 23:23, 28 March 2008 (UTC)mentioned are interesections and concurrency with other Sk Hwy and placenames. Kind Regards...
- I upside downed the article on talk page of 16 and added images and a bit of prose to Sk Hwy 58. Fixed all red links. Made distance chart standard. Added abbreviations to SK 16 chart. It is a looong highway, and all the intersections are either with other hwys or are concurrency things. Edited a lot of Sk 16 to make it shorter, and tried to make the facts connect with better prose. Let me know if you think more should be done... Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 21:43, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed infobox, ran puncutation through microsoft word, ran MoS through automatic peer reviewer...still checking. The mileage issue. I already made a note that the new junction chart thingie is wrong for Canada that county is really Rural municipality. Then the heading will say miles, but I am really putting in kilometers. Now that doesn't work. The junction template is to U.S.A. for Canada. I can't do this one and tell people the column stating miles is the numbers for kilometers too confusing. Will look at images next. (this is for Hwy 16 only so far)SriMesh | talk 22:41, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

- Hello me again. Got the Sk / Hwy business fixed, the ghost town section has more references. I added it as the 1925 1930 road on the square would have had these placenames but the current Yellowhead doesn't. Sk communities have gone from over 3,000 in the 1940's and over 5,000 schools to under 1,000 placenames on current maps and probably under 1,000 consolidated schools currently as well. It always amazes me the huge impact the industrial revolution had on SK. Twinning is the Sk Department of Highway word for a Divided highway or Dual carriageway so I added the wikilink and changed the section heading to the more universal naming convention. Some of the highway being graveled sentences are direct block quotes, but where it wasn't I changed it. What few words does section 2.6 start with?? Kind Regards and thanks for your patience and help with this. SriMesh | talk 00:54, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

GA review of Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway
editI've reviewed the article and left notes on the talk page. I've put the nomination on hold for seven days to allow the issues to be addressed. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, here, or on the article talk page with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. Hello there. Regarding these articles. Thinking of the prose and community table. I put help me on the talk page to see if I could get the town sizes and citations added differently but how I cited it is the wiki way. Maybe if in the community table, instead of just the town name, I added the size also...then the prose would flow better and wouldn't stop with all the mentions of the stats. The size I added for most communities as the number of residents rather determine whether all services are present...ie if you were traveling down the road....a village/hamlet of 100 or 200 is not going to have a service station providing gas after 5 pm probably, and maybe not even have a gas station at all. A town of 500 folk may have this service but not all hors, and a city will have evening, and probably all night service. A town will have a hotel, and only some villags and hamlets...this type of thing..is why I figured I would add the sizes. Before I changed the articles thought I would discuss as you started the formatting for the tables to make it more encyclopedic and thought I would follow the format as well, but now with a change...Kind Regards...SriMesh | talk 03:47, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

editHello Mitchazenia, this IP you recently blocked belongs to the University of Vienna and is probably shared by hundreds of persons. I'm normally not questioning block lengths from others, but blocking it for 27 months at this time is completely unwarranted, 3-31 hours would be more appropriate. The page the IP linked isn't blatant spam, there are some scientific papers on it which even could be used as a reference in those articles. While a block as such is justified due to the number of pages the IP edited, the above factors should be reflected in the block length. Regards --Oxymoron83 10:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the pass to GA. Have tried the peer review for this article, in two venues, general and highway peer review received little response which I fixed those. Did have different articles at league of copyeditors and no reply there. Will try this one there also see if it works better now. Get better notes at GA or FA. Maybe I'll try FA just to get comments. editCounty Route 115 (Tompkins County, New York) - why did you make this? At the very least, NY 330 should be merged into it, but I really don't see why this exists. I also don't see why you continue to make new articles on former routes when so many horrible existing articles on active routes exist. At the end of the day, having complete coverage of active routes is more important than coverage of some route that was deleted 30 years ago, since it is much more likely that a visitor to this site will look for an active route than a former route. And if the one active route they click on has a horrible article, that doesn't leave a good first impression.
From this, it's visibly apparent that you take more pride in making new articles than fixing what already exists. New York really does not need any more expansion, especially not county routes, when so many state highway articles are incomplete. (County routes are also not inherently notable.) Every active route exists; every major former route exists. But over a third of these are sorely lacking in content. Like I've said before, if you really need to make new articles, go to a state like Vermont or Ohio where the majority of the active system has yet to be written. --– TMF 20:16, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
I've been working on the Tropical cyclone WikiProject for almost four years now and I know that at times it can be pretty draining. Hurricanehink and I started a fun little thing two years ago called the Hurricane Hall of Fame (based on a concept I'd created much earlier). It works just like any other Hall of Fame: every year, five storms are voted in based on notability. Up until now, the voters were just me and Hink and the honorees were just Atlantic storms. Both of those are changing (hopefully). I'm trying to get more Project members involved in the voting and I'm going international this year. This ballot is for the Eastern Pacific. Following this election, I'll send out ballots for the Western Pacific and then perhaps the Indian Ocean...all leading up to the Atlantic ballot early this summer. I'd really appreciate your participation. It's just for fun; something to lower stress levels. I'll announce the winners next weekend. The nominees are...
- 1939 Long Beach Tropical Storm - Only tropical storm to make landfall in California in the 20th Century, killed in excess of 40 people at sea and in floods.
- 1959 Mexico Hurricane - deadliest Eastern Pacific storm in history, 1000-1800 dead.
- Hurricane Tara - killed over 500 people in floods in central Mexico.
- Hurricane Liza - over 600 people were killed in devastating floods in Baja California.
- Hurricane Paul - slow-moving storm left over 1000 dead in Central America.
- Hurricane Iniki - most damaging hurricane in Hawaii's history, causing $2.6 billion in uninflated damage.
- Hurricane John - longest lived tropical cyclone ever recorded worldwide; 31 days.
- Hurricane Ismael - caused devastating flooding that killed 116 people in Mexico.
- Hurricane Linda - strongest Eastern Pacific storm ever recorded.
- Hurricane Pauline - devastated Mexico, killing 230 people and causing $7.5 billion in damage.
- Choose three of these that you most want in. Post your votes on my talk page. The five top vote-getters will be inducted.

- Hey buddy, going up there tomorrow to get your pictures. I'll take a few and you can decide which you like. Let me know if I should just E-mail them to you, so select Wiki admins don't chew me out for uploading several pictures that look similar. Also, I was on the NY Routes project page and I saw your post about the shields changing a bit. I was curious and took a look at some pictures and the ones on the NY 59 page make me think you are absolutely right about that. Anyway, I posted something on the project page just to back you up on that. Good catch! -Airtuna08 (talk) 06:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Here's the pictures! You'll see a couple of the detour road closing signs from Kanawauke Circle and the road closing sign at the final turn you can make before CR 106 westbound closes. I was going to walk toward the bridge, but there was a park ranger parked along side the road down there to make sure no one is driving over the bridge. Wasn't sure if he would want me down there. Then, I tired hiking the hill along side hoping for an overhead shot, but the angles really stunk from the trails. But I go up there on weekends once and awhile to hike or fish, so I'll try and get a picture of the bridge if there isn't a park ranger down there. But the road closing signs should be good too. I'll post them below, so feel free to pick and choose which you want.

- I don't have any termini or road shots on me, but I could def get some next time I go up there. Not much of a chore if the beautiful weather keeps up, haha. But let me check my files, I know I have some pics of Lake Tiorati and Lake Cohasset you can get up on the Arden page tonight. I'll post those in a little bit for you. Also, if we have Arden, do you have any interest in doing Tiorati Brook Road and Lake Welch Parkway? Both of these use the same Palisades shield, so might make sense to have those two as well. Let me know! I'll get pics of those too. -Airtuna08 (talk) 21:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Something in my head tells me shields for Tiorati Brook Road go all the way to the Seven Lakes Drive/PIP traffic circle even though mapquest says differently. I could be wrong though. I'll have to check it out, but here are some scenic shots from Arden Valley Road.

What do the NYSDOT logs say about Tiorati Brook Drive? Does it end at the county line or where the signage from the picture says? Interesting. Enjoy the pics though! -Airtuna08 (talk) 19:08, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: NY 418
editThat is what's holding it up... Dude Ranch Trail must be its own article, and the relevant information moved there. It also means that NY 418 needs to have some sort of a comprehensive history written instead. Does this information not exist? —Rob (talk) 02:42, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think so, unfortunately. The reason I haven't put up any IL routes for GA status (except for I-355) was precisely because of a lack of history. I understand that a narrative of how the route was laid isn't necessary for older state routes, but "major aspects" should then focus on resurfacing projects and reconstruction projects.
- It's possible that my stance will change based on comments at places like FAC and on WT:USRD. In fact, I might raise a discussion there, but I'm running around while it's nice out today. —Rob (talk) 18:47, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
