Hi, the recent edit you made to Seattle Mariners has been reverted, as it appears to be unconstructive. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thanks. List of English football transfers Summer 2008

Just so you know, Arsenal haven't actually signed Samir Nasri yet. – PeeJay 22:43, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Giovani dos Santos

Actually, Giovani hasn't signed a contract with Spurs yet. I'm sure he will, eventually, but as of RIGHT NOW, he is still officially an FC Barcelona player. – PeeJay 08:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Glen Little

Wouldn't that deduction count as original research? Neither club has mentioned that Little moved on a free transfer, and the BBC reported the transfer fee as "Undisclosed". – PeeJay 23:12, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Nery Castillo

Castillo signed a year-long loan deal with City, which extends from January 2008 to January 2009. Therefore, City have him for another 6 months. Then they will decide whether to keep him permanently or send him back to Shakhtar. My money's on the former. – PeeJay 17:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

re: Carlos Tévez

Please read the talk page, as well. Latics 17:22, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

AS Monaco

The reason for AS Monaco being appended with the French flag is that the club is affiliated with the French Football Federation. It has nothing to do with the Monegasque FA's affiliation to FIFA or UEFA or anything like that. It's simply that AS Monaco, when competing in international competitions, compete as representatives of France. – PeeJay 23:24, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Rohan Ricketts

No idea how long he'll be with Toronto. The length of his contract was not specified in this Sky Sports article. – PeeJay 07:57, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

No, I would disagree with that change. Why over-shorten the MLS teams' names and not those from other countries? – PeeJay 15:24, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

"Second" teams

Second teams in Germany, such as Werder Bremen II and Bayern Munich II are not youth clubs. They are senior teams playing in the same league pyramid as their respective "first team". Hubschrauber729 (talk) 15:20, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Signature

Would you mind not altering your signature to use Pacific time? It completely fucks up the bot that archives my talk page, and I don't doubt that it would fuck up other people's archive bots too. – PeeJay 09:18, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Ljungberg has been unattached since the summer, so he should not be listed in the List of English football transfers winter 2008-09. By the way, please sign your posts using four tildes (~) from now on. I assure you that you will find it much simpler than writing out links to your userpage and talk page and the time. – PeeJay 21:49, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
What are you confused about exactly? – PeeJay 10:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I've never seen the fee for a free agent be described as "Undisclosed". Are you sure you're not getting confused with something else? – PeeJay 21:41, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I was unaware that their contracts were due to expire before those transfers. That being the case, I'm stumped. Nevertheless, it's not our place to question the sources. If the fee was given as Undisclosed, then Undisclosed it is. – PeeJay 21:50, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Images

First, you need to upload the image to the Wikipedia server, which you can do by clicking the "Upload file" link in the "Toolbox" section on the left hand side of the page. When uploading, make sure you give the correct licensing information. Then, once the image is uploaded, you simply add [[Image:''Image name.ext'']] to your userpage. – PeeJay 00:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Licensing is no big deal. If it's a photo you took yourself, then just release the image under the GFDL or Creative Commons licenses (unless you're happy with releasing it to the public domain, in which case select that one). If it's not a free image, you may have troubles. – PeeJay 00:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Lassana Diarra

The figure I've heard quoted is £20 million. – PeeJay 00:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Certainly not. – PeeJay 16:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Zoran Tošić

I would hope so. – PeeJay 00:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

No, because the transfer is not complete. There were news reports a few days ago that Tosic and Ljajic were still negotiating personal terms with Man Utd, so the transfers may still fall through. – PeeJay 11:01, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Fredrik Ljungberg and Daniel Alves

Hey there, I don't know if you keep an eye on the discussions at WT:FOOTY, but an editor has objected to your moves of Fredrik Ljungberg and Daniel Alves to Freddie Ljungberg and Dani Alves, respectively. I have therefore reverted the moves, as they are obviously contentious, and I suggest that you start an RM discussion for each article. When you've done that, you should notify the WikiProject that the discussions have been started by listing them here. Cheers. – PeeJay 18:44, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounders

Why should it matter what Sounders FC puts him down as? The Swedish national team, UEFA and FIFA in all official matches have always had him as Fredrik.— chandler — 20:41, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

You don't care that the highest governing bodies of Football calls him Fredrik?... It's you making a big deal about moving a player from his real name to a informal nickname — chandler — 22:55, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Brazilians play with artist names, or formal nicknames, that appear on FIFA's match reports compare for example [1] to [2]. And I care because to me it's a incorrect title for a player who I've been watching for over 10 years, never officially been called Freddie. — chandler — 00:53, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
You have still failed to show how Sounders override FIFA in authority — chandler — 03:58, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
No why would that change anything? Look at FIFA's match reports for example. It's Fredrik. — chandler — 04:16, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Adem Ljajic

No, do you? Manchester United says that Ljajic will remain at Partizan until the end of 2009. There is no mention of a loan. The BBC has got its facts wrong. – PeeJay 17:30, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Arshavin eligibility

You know what, I'm not sure. I know that, of the three squad changes that clubs are allowed, one player is allowed to have played in the UEFA Cup (Real Madrid have fallen foul of this rule by signing Diarra and Huntelaar, both of whom have played in the UEFA Cup, so only one can play in the Champions League), but I don't know if anyone who's already played in the Champions League for one club can play in it for another club later in the season. I would guess not though. – PeeJay 23:39, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't know more than PeeJay does. Sorry mate. kalaha 17:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

You're not allowed to play for two clubs in the Champions League in one season, no. That's why for example Michael Owen wasn't played in 04-05 so he wouldn't be cup-tied and Real wouldnt have wanted him — CHANDLER#10 — 17:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Javier Mascherano

No, because that transfer occurred in February 2008. – PeeJay 08:04, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

But Mascherano's transfer was completed during the 2007-08 season. Modric and Bosingwa didn't join their new clubs until 1 July 2008, which is technically part of the 2008-09 season. – PeeJay 22:40, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Andrei Arshavin

I think it should go with the Winter transfers, as it would have gone through yesterday, only the Premier League's staff has probably all gone home for the night and won't officially confirm the transfer until later today. – PeeJay 00:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Roger

He almost signed with the club then changed his mind. There are lots of sources for this - just Google Roger and DC United. Here's one I came across quickly [3]. JohnInDC (talk) 19:43, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

MLS Transfers

Hey Mike,

First off, let me apologize for not discussing this with you sooner. As a fellow Gooner, I don't want to get into a pissing match with you about this article. You've done a fantastic job building and updating this page. Seriously, as someone who has devoted a lot of time to the U.S. Soccer and MLS articles myself over the last few years, I know the kind of dedication that takes. It's a tough job, with little recognition, but somebody has to do it, right? All I was trying to do was improve upon what you've already got going. Since there are very, very few transfer fees with regard to MLS, sortability doesn't really need to be utilized. For searching through the article people can use Ctrl+F, so the alphabetizing doesn't really do much good either. Since that is the case, I removed a lot of unnecessary code from the table to streamline the page. Finally, you've linked to a lot of articles incorrectly. All I was trying to do was improve on the work you've already done. Hopefully we can work constructively on improving the article together. Have a good one. -- Grant.Alpaugh 03:32, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Mike, what don't you understand about the difference between "F.C." and "FC?" "F.C." is an abbreviation for "Football Club" which is part of the full name of many, many clubs. On Wikipedia, when linking to clubs who have articles with the name "XYZ F.C." we leave out the "F.C." part because it is an abbreviation. "FC" is just two letters at the end of a club name that don't stand for anything in the full, official name of a club. "Toronto FC," "Carolina RailHawks FC," "Seattle Sounders FC," and "Wellington Phoenix FC" are just some of the examples. The words "Football Club" never appear in the name of the club, so there is no abbreviation and "FC" is part of the full name of the club. On Wikipedia, we include the full name of the club, minus common abbreviations, and so since the "FC" doesn't stand for anything, we leave it in. Please believe me when I say that they are well and truly different, and should be piped differently too. -- Grant.Alpaugh 04:45, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
What is different about Seattle Sounders FC, FC Dallas, and Toronto FC vs. Wellington Phoenix FC and Carolina RailHawks FC? Those are all complete names of clubs, and so we link to them that way. The FC doesn't stand for anything in any of those club names, and so should not be removed from piped links. What is so hard to understand? -- Grant.Alpaugh 22:29, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
There's nothing wrong with piping the link correctly. We're nowhere near the width of the page, even after the link. We're trying to create a global standard. -- Grant.Alpaugh 19:10, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Apple Cup userbox

I simply included it in the sports userboxes page under the "College Rivalries" section because I thought it was notable enough to merit its own userbox. Looking at your userpage, I can tell you're a big fan of all sports in Washington state, especially Seattle ones. If you're a Washington or Washington State fan, feel free to add that userbox! Thanks, Tom Danson (talk) 04:53, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Mike Randolph

Hey Mike, the reason I've got Randolph's "years" figure in the infobox ending in '08 is because for MLS players we do the seasons played, rather than the strict dates of the contract. So, if a guy is released in, say, February of '09, the last season he played was '08, so we list him as, say, 2006-2008. One of the major reasons for doing this is that the league is very tardy in announcing the release of players, and often their contracts have been terminated well before it is announced. The other reason is just that it represents a better picture of when the player actually played for the team. Hit me back if you wanna discuss. Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 02:38, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Loan deadline

The loan deadline is today because it prevents teams from taking players on a short-term loan merely for the business end of the season, when titles can be won or lost, relegations and promotions decided, etc. For example, if there was no loan deadline and Man Utd, per se, had already won the title, there would be nothing to stop them from loaning their players to whomever they chose in order to save them from relegation or prevent another side from gaining promotion, etc. – PeeJay 00:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect categorization

Hey Mikemor92,

Just wanted to bring to your attention that in the category "Wikipedian football (soccer) team fans", your username is the only one that shows up. As there should be no user pages and only subcategories, you'll need to fix this. I've noticed that you have the category linked on your user page and have yourself categorized under "Arsenal". However, as you have added the userbox, your name already shows up in the sub-category "Wikipedian Arsenal F.C. fans".

Cheers,
Zadora13 (talk) 20:40, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Sean Bucknor

I nominated for deletion it because he fails WP:ATHLETE, WP:N and WP:FOOTYN. He has never played a professional game for any team anywhere in the world, and his biography does not indicate that he has done anything of note in his soccer career other than turning out for a Trinidadian youth team and being the son of a cricket umpire. As soon as he plays a pro game somewhere, or does something notable, we can re-create the article. It's just basic housekeeping. Cheers! --JonBroxton (talk) 17:00, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Signatures

I'm not sure if this is the case, but are you using the four tildes (~~~~) to sign your talk page posts? For some reason, in your signatures at Talk:List of English football transfers summer 2009, all of the times have been out by an hour, and one was even out by 61 minutes, which doesn't make any sense. Anyway, whatever you're doing now, I would advise that you start/carry on using the four tildes to sign your posts. – PeeJay 19:39, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

We set our clocks forward on Saturday night/Sunday morning, but that means that we are on UTC+1 now. All posts should be signed in UTC and not changed based on daylight savings. – PeeJay 21:54, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

General Issues

I hope that your removal of some constructive criticism indicates that you intend to follow it, rather than ignore it. We're not trying to be dicks, Mike, we're just trying to help you improve your editing. Keep things on topic and sign your posts correctly and you will be a better editor. -- Grant.Alpaugh 06:04, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Martin Laursen

Well, under normal circumstances, his retirement would not have come into effect until the end of the season, but since he's currently injured, he's effectively retired with immediate effect. – PeeJay 14:09, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

{{Nft}}

Flags are discouraged in football players' infoboxes, so until some comes up with better templates this should be IMHO linked like this: Kasey Keller. --Jaellee (talk) 16:23, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Ronaldo

He's still a United player until he is registered as a Madrid player, and that won't happen until he agrees personal terms and passes his medical. It's unlikely that he needs a passport, since he's moving around within the EU. – PeeJay 08:13, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Nate Boyden

Curious as to why you have reverted Rostocker FC from his profile. A look at their website lists "Nate Boyden" in their team squad. Is this not the correct person? GauchoDude (talk) 03:20, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Inappropriate edit summary

Mike, I know you were frustrated, but this is clearly unacceptable. If someone vandalizes a page, just revert the edit as vandalism. Making a big deal about it gives the vandals exactly what they want. If you just ignore the vandal and revert the page calmly, they have less incentive to vandalize pages in the future. AfterMayAndIntoAugust (talk) 18:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

No problem. I know vandalism is frustrating, but by doing what you did, you gave them exactly what they wanted. Just try to keep your cool better. ;-) AfterMayAndIntoAugust (talk) 00:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

Graham Nationality

I'm not sure I understand how his nationality can be Puerto Rican if FIFA has determined that he's ineligible for the team. Therefore, wouldn't that mean that he's only eligible for the US team? By extension, wouldn't that then mean that his nationality is US? If FIFA says he's not eligible for Puerto Rico any more, I don't see how that can still be his professional nationality. Do you have any credible sources you can point me at to back up your claim? --SkotyWATalk|Contribs 03:59, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure about this situation myself. If FIFA say he's not eligible to play for Puerto Rico, then his nationality should probably be United States. Try asking at WT:FOOTY. – PeeJay 15:33, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

It appears that the WT:FOOTY discussion agrees that his nationality at this point is US. Considering I've already reverted the Puerto Rico edit twice (don't want to do it a third time), I'd appreciate it if you would revert it back to consensus. Thanks! --SkotyWATalk|Contribs 02:44, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Flagicons

The last section says "As with other biographical articles, flags are discouraged in sportspeople's individual infoboxes." --Jimbo[online] 18:05, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'd like to endorse Jimbo's comment here, please do not add flags to infoboxes per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(icons)#Use_of_flags_for_sportspeople. If you feel this guideline should not apply, please discuss somewhere and establish consensus before proceeding. Thanks. --ClubOranjeT 00:27, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Terry Dixon

he is listed as a 1b also now

Luis Ángel Landín

The page info is wrong, he wasn't sold, I think he was on loan to Cruz Azul. There were negotiations with Morelia and Houston because Morelia owns his rights. Also, according to this source his rights were owned by Morelia. Black'nRed 02:43, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

See this source, it says he's on loan from Cruz Azul but it says Morelia loanded him to Cruz Azul. Black'nRed 22:04, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe Morelia loaned him to Cruz Azul then loaned him to Houston. Black'nRed 00:13, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I just reverted this addition to the Sounders FC team page. Kasperone had made a similar edit linking to the soon to be deleted duplicate content a few days back. I reverted that as well. In both of my reversion edit summaries, I suggested that this content might be more appropriate on the team season page. However, I've now recognized that you've gone through each of the MLS team pages and added a similar link. I'm wondering if it's appropriate to have this link on the team pages. It might be better to have them on the 2009 season pages (since this is season specific information). Would it be okay if we moved these links to the 2009 season pages instead? --SkotyWATalk|Contribs 07:59, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I was referring to this addition which added a link to List of transfers for the 2009 Major League Soccer season on the main team page. --SkotyWATalk|Contribs 06:07, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

User:Maynassar/Andrei Arshavin

This is a copy of an existing article in user space. The subject is notable, so A7 would not apply. The user has a lot of copies in his/her user space, for some reason. Maybe s/he is experimenting with the articles in a sandbox-type situation? Anyway, it's not an inappropriate use of user space, so they don't really need to be deleted. Although, the categories and inter-wiki links should be commented out, since it puts a user page under an article category. ... discospinster talk 01:55, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I've commented out the categories, so it shouldn't appear there anymore. ... discospinster talk 02:15, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Doubts

Hi there, MIKE, VASCO from Portugal here,

Regarding your doubts here (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pedro_Roberto_Silva_Botelho&diff=308028379&oldid=307975308), i'll explain my views: i think clubs should be compressed in BOX, especially when they are big (UD SALAMANCA, CLUB ATLÉTICO RIVER PLATE, etc), but what's the problem with showing, at least once, club name in full in storyline? I think it's very informative and it does not lessen quality of article. Also, i did another thing in same article (Pedro Roberto Silva Botelho), which consisted in avoiding overlinking, and you reverted it, wikilinking Arsenal F.C. again, when once is enough (OK, 1 in introduction, then another in storyline - please read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overlinking#Overlinking).

Cheers, keep up the good work,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 21:22, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Seattle Sounders FC task force

Hi, I wanted to notify you that I've created a proposal to create a Seattle Sounders FC task force at WikiProject Football. As someone who has edited articles in the space, I thought you might be interested. If so, you can add your name to the list of supporters here. Cheers. ← George talk 17:56, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and created the Seattle Sounders FC task force. It can be found here. Our first order of business is to tag all of the Seattle-related articles with WikiProject Football's {{football}} banner (most already have it), and add a Seattle importance rating to it. This be done by adding a Seattle=(importance) parameter to the banner, where (importance) is one of Top, High, Mid, or Low. ← George talk 16:51, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

MLS players profiles

Hey, I noticed you were doing some maintenance on MLS player profiles right now - great job! Thats not how it is done. The category is added as soon as a player signs a major league deal with a team or is traded to the team. If the player never appears in a game for the team then it is removed.--Yankees10 21:31, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Seattle Sounders

Hi there. I haven't reverted your edit on this article, although I can't rule out doing so later.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to participate or take note of the discussion here, and indeed the proposal immediately below it. There is not yet clear consensus on what to do, but there is broad consensus that we shouldn't leave flags without country names. Indeed, flags were a large reason behind the failure of the initial Sounders FC WP:FAC. WFCforLife (talk) 01:40, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the work with removing the team categories from players pages.
