Good Work!

Hey Mike, really nice to see a person who appreciates the hard work put in! A barnstar is a real nice way to brighten up someone's mood. I just happened to see one of your barnstars in someone else's userspace. At a time when many editors scare away new editors away from en Wiki, you are welcoming them with arms wide open. Keep up the good work! Regards, TheMikeLeave me a message! 06:06, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you so much for the modest barnstar! It always feels good to know that even one person appreciate's ones hard work and it made my day. Shvybzik (talk) 18:58, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Barnstar for Blocked User

Did you mean to give a barnstar to a user who was indef blocked for spamming? Also, the "recent contributions" link in that barnstar links to Active Users instead of the user's contributions. RobinHood70 talk 19:56, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

  • Whoops, my bad. I like giving out barnstars, so I was trolling the Active Users list, randomly clicking on some users, and must have done so without paying much attention. I'll try to be more careful next time. Mike Restivo (talk) 19:59, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
No worries. I figured it was either that or a case of mistaken identity. RobinHood70 talk 20:06, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Barnstars...

First off, thanks. However, I wonder if you're efforts would be a little more meaningful if you screened who you gave them too a little. I looked at your contribution list, and saw that there were multiple people who...didn't really deserve any awards. (Like the person at the above of your talk page, who had been blocked for spamming. Or another person who appeared to be doing nothing but causing grief and not understanding what content is appropriate for wikipedia.)

Anyways, just throwing my 2 cents out there. You're not breaking any policies or anything, so you're free to do as you please. Sergecross73 msg me 21:46, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

For the barnstar you awarded me with. This encourages me to keep contributing on Wikipedia. Regards, Fma12 (talk) 21:56, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the barnstar, man! It kind of makes the ridiculous amount of time and effort I pour into this site worth it...kind of : ) Nowhereman86 (talk) 22:50, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

How are you choosing your barnstar recipients?

I don't mind people awarding each other barnstars for good work, which comes in all sorts of different forms. However, I'm wondering how you're choosing your recipients. One user you tagged today, User:Cfcl marketing, only made edits on one day (13 April), and almost all of them were removed (by me) as being overly promotional. Furthermore, the user is almost certainly directly related to the article they were editing (Ceramic Fuel Cells); if they had continued editing, I would have requested they be blocked until they changed their name (per WP:UAA), and insisted they follow WP:COI. I see from your user page that you're intentionally passing around barnstars, and I'm concerned about your method for choosing to give them to. It doesn't make sense to me to pass out barnstars in cases where the editor is clearly not editing in the best interests of the 'pedia. Qwyrxian (talk) 01:46, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

And when I look above, I see that two other users have the same concern. If I got such a barnstar from you, knowing that you're handing them out to spammers, COI editors, etc., I wouldn't really feel like the barnstar meant anything. Someone above mentioned you're not violating policy, but I'd argue you're starting to edge that way. Per WP:NOT, Wikipedia is not a social-networking site; barnstars should mean something, not just be handed out for your enjoyment in giving them. Qwyrxian (talk) 01:49, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I agree. I didn't know there were so many other forms of wikilove like smiles or cookies. Maybe I'll use those instead next time? Also I should be way more careful to check that I'm not feeding the trolls or vandals. Mike Restivo (talk) 17:51, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for my first barnstar

The Modest Barnstar

Dear Mike,

Thank you for granting me with the "Modest Barnstar". It is a boost for contributing further to the wikimedia foundation.
NB: I have put it from my User talk to my User page. I guess I was allowed to do it.

Best botanical regards, --Réginald alias Meneerke bloem (To reply) 08:15, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!!!

Thanks a lot for the Barn Star bro. Hope, it will accelerate my contributions. Karthik Nadar (talk) 08:29, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Re: Thank you

Hi Mike,
I do not know how to thank you enough. This award was really unexpected and much appreciated.
I read your userpage and I think that what you're doing is really great, perhaps even more important (or at least at the same level) than working (good working and editing) in the mainspace.
Many-many thanks to you for the award and an especially BIG THANK YOU for all you are doing, and for this excellent (and intelligent) initiative you have undertaken!
Take care and all the very best!!! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 08:37, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank U dear

You came like an angel (a male one) I've never expected any reward because I'm don't speak in english so I thought that may whatever I do here doesn't realy deserve any reward because may be they have grammer or vocabular difficulties. kisses --Rmashhadi (talk) 11:08, 30 April 2011 (UTC)rmashhadi

Thank You!

Thank you so much for awarding me the Modest Barnstar. This is my first barnstar and it is a big moment for me. Kansas212 (talk) 12:28, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks :)

Thanks for the barnstar. It means a lot. I see you have given lots of people barnstars recently, a great thing to do. Thanks for being such a great person.   Andy4789 (talk) 18:51, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I second Andy4789's sentiments. I am grateful for this small yet significant gesture, and am now doubly proud to be a contributing Wikipedian! Thanks! Ricegator (talk) 12:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

ANI closed - no issue

As an uninvolved administrator, I have reviewed and closed (archive boxed) the ANI report. What you were doing was not problematic (much less disruptive or actionable). I understand why some people were concerned when they saw an IP doing it, but you having done some edits logged out by accident is not a problem at all. Thanks for clearing up that it was you.

A lot of us get cynical seeing people give fake awards, or undeserved criticism or attacks, a lot around here. Genuine if nontraditional support and encouragement, such as what you did, is a good thing. We need more editors willing to say "Hey, that was a good job, thanks".

Barnstars

Barnstars are NOT meant to be handed out like candy at Halloween. • SbmeirowTalk02:55, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for what I believe, is an appropriate recognition. Regards GhanaDa (talk) 23:43, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Are there rules in this regard then? I thought it was more a kindness other Wikepedians used when they personally felt it was okay? I have a massive bias as Mr Restivo was kind enough to give me a barnstar (undeservedly, I feel!) and came on here to say thank you- which is essentially what I'm doing here. THANK YOU!!! WikiProject Barnstar Awarding

Hi there, I have recently started a WikiProject which focuses on awarding barnstars to users who deserve them. I see that you like to give out barnstars and I was wondering if you would be interested in joining. There is a way to log the barnstars you give out and active users can win Barnstars themselves. Click here if your interested and sign up. Oddbodz (talk) 11:49, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
