Genre changing edit

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is highly recommended that you add a reliable source or address a relevant talk page before changing the genre structure or content on the pages of bands and albums. Edits such as the ones you made to Anathema (band), which entirely consist of the infobox's genre area having its genres changed, can and often do breach rules of verifiability and point of view, especially without the reliable sources and talk page consultation. With that said, though, have a nice day, and feel free to contant me if you have a curiosity. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 01:20, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to reiterate what the above user has said. Please provide sources, and explanations in the edit summaries. Otherwise, people often see it as vandalism or misinformed, and change the edits right back. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 21:04, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You're ignoring simple requests, ex [1]. --CutOffTies (talk) 11:35, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

You just changed the genre for the band Tool, without any explanation or source, AND there's discussion on the discussion page as to why that was the wrong decision to make. Come on now, this is at least 4 requests from 3 different people. How many warnings do you need? Please stop or you'll likely be reported/blocked... Opeth edit

Your recent edits seem to have the appearance of edit warring. Users are expected to collaborate and discuss with others and avoid editing disruptively.

Please be particularly aware, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss the changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

GunMetal Angel, you are close to violating 3RR as well. Nymf hideliho! 10:24, 3 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hey,Gunmetal Angel,I can see you are a mallcore fanatic,so why are you wasting your precious time involving a band like Opeth,& your quote Think you'll stop now? marks as a personal attack as well.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Metalvayne (talkcontribs)

LOL, no it doesn't, it's not even personal. But if you continue with the questioning, I'll let an admin know about that too in advance. You just got blocked. Think you'll stop now? Also, keep in mind I was really calm and even came off friendly and welcoming when this all happened but you acted out and ruined all that. I wasn't the one that insulted two experienced users and called them "trolls", you did. • GunMetal Angel 17:59, 3 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Metalvayne, once you are unblocked, instead of continuing to edit war, join in the discussion that Gunmetal Angel started at Talk:Opeth#Rock or metal opening?. This way everyone can have their say in a discussion, and we can all come to a consensus on how to best represent Opeth's genre in the lead. MrMoustacheMM (talk) 00:56, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

October 2011 edit

I see you're back to changing genre on bands again, whether it be without explanation of sourced information at Breaking Benjamin, or without consensus, like at Five Finger Death Punch. As you've been told before, that is unacceptable. Please stop. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 19:20, 3 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Another reminder not to change sourced genres, especially without discussion or even and edit summary, like you did over at Karnivool. Sergecross73 msg me 16:21, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Incivility edit

Some of your comments, such as "I hope you can read" and "I'm now sure of the fact that, you can't read & probably weak in math too...I'd advice you to contact an eye specialist immediately" are not appropriate. Please, stay civil, assume good faith, and leave that sort of commentary out. It doesn't help your case. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 16:59, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Highly unlikely... edit

So, I saw your suspicion that this IP may be a sockpuppet of "User:Backtable", with you thinking that he may be responsible for this vandalism on your user page.

For the record, I'd like to say this is extremely unlikely, as Backtable has a long history of being an editor here, being in good standing, knowing policies, etc. I'm pretty certain he would not jump on a random IP and start spewing vulgarities at you like that. I'd look elsewhere for suspects. Sergecross73 msg me 13:52, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to come around here and say that the random IP's edits is certainly not of my doing. The Backtable account is my only account on here, for almost five years, and I have never had another account on here (save for some accidental IP editing in the past, which is not sockpuppeting and is not a blockable offense). It is not my style to vandalize user pages and, for that matter, to have such bad grammar and vocabulary as Mr/s. 96 did; if I've got an issue with a Wikipedia editor, I post on their talk page exactly what is on my mind, with an appropriate tone. The 96 IP is also based in St. Louis, Missouri (WHOIS lookup), while I currently live in Colorado. Next time you make a claim like that in public, you have to have more proof than that. Backtable Speak to meconcerning my deeds. 22:07, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Backtable, do you occasionally travel to St. Louis or do you have some relatives/friends there? Don't mind, I'm just asking because it takes mere 4-5 hours from Fort Wayne to St Louis by a motorcycle or car. So, I'm just curious. MetalVayne talk 15:17, 12 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced genre changing without explanation edit

Yet again, I'm here warning you against changing genre without any sort of source or explanation. Edits like this, where you change genre without adding a source or edit summary, are something you've been warned on before. If you continue, I'm going for Admin intervention at WP:ANI. Judging by how many times you've been warned for your disruptive editing up and down your talk page, don't be surprised if you get blocked if you continue doing this. Please stop. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 18:50, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also, another repeated reminder: you need to provide sources if your explanations are challenged. You can't just say "use your own personal interpretations of music or make vague generalizations without proof. Sergecross73 msg me 20:59, 9 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Metalvayne, I have deleted this image as the licence you uploaded under ( Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 1.0 License.) is very different to the one on flickr (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic). The Flickr licence is (for Wikipedia) non-free and the image would also fail the first of the non-free content criteria - Peripitus (Talk) 12:03, 9 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

RE: Your views on genre edit

Sorry, but that's not how Grunge is defined on Wikipedia. (Look at the article. AiC is mentioned in it heavily. They were part of the grunge genre/movement, whether you or they like it or not.) Furthermore, you still haven't found a reliable source to back up any of that all that sludge rock/stone rock nonsense. Virtually every edit you do regarding the stuff above is considered original research, and will be continue to be removed if all you have to go by are your personal ramblings on genre... Sergecross73 msg me 15:32, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Stop jumping to conclusions. When I say "nonsense", I'm referring to conversations like this one, where you failed time and time again to provide any sort of reliable source that sludge metal is a genre they perform. Sergecross73 msg me 16:24, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Blocked for sockpuppetry edit

You seem to have a problem with following the rules here. Please use this time while blocked to consider whether you want to remain part of this community. Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive766#Disruptive editing by User:Metalvayne was closed by DGG (talk · contribs) as:

I'm going to close this as a totally uninvolved editor. Even for someone not familiar with the subject, the situation is clear. Metalvayne is topic banned for one year from making any changes to genres in article space, whether in the text or the infobox. He is permitted to suggest them in article talk space, at a reasonable rate. If his suggestions there do not get support, he must not press them further. After the year, we can give one final chance, but if it continues disruptively, the topic ban is indefinite. I shall support it by reverts and after the first warning, an indefinite block. However, I do not follow these articles, so people who see these will have to notify me on my talk p. If any other admin agrees with me, could they do the formal hatting , etc. Any action taken for sockpuppetry can be in addition to this. DGG ( talk ) 01:03, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Topic ban - Edits regarding music genre/style edit

I'd like to remind you that you are topic banned from editing anything regarding a bands genre or musical style. As such, edits such as this one are not acceptable. There is no "But it was wrong!" or "But it's not even controversial!" You're not supposed to deal with it at all. This is your warning. Sergecross73 msg me 16:09, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Alright, won't happen again. What do you suggest about dealing with this IP. Here is a sample of his contributions. Metalvayne talk 16:24, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'd leave him some comments/warnings on his talk page. (If you don't know what to say, there's a bunch of template ones at WP:WARNING.) Sooner or later, an Admin will see the warnings and block him, or the IP will be bored and stop. If he get's too bad you can alert an Admin too. Sergecross73 msg me 16:30, 9 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unconstructive editing again edit

You've been made aware that you're on thin ice, and yet less than 24 hours after your week long block, you continue with your unconstructive editing. It really seems like you should know better, but I'll spell it out for you:

I'm not sure how you expect to convince people that you plan on making well-intentioned edits when, as soon as you come off your block you break your topic ban and make petty comments on talk pages... Sergecross73 msg me 15:54, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

October 2012 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for ignoring your topic ban and persistent sockpuppetry. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Appealing for one final chance edit

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Metalvayne (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I haven't created any WP:MEAT/WP:SOCK after Bloomgloom, I was already blocked for 1 week after that, I didn't know that there's no place for humour in wikipedia, I'll keep it in mind & regarding the topic band I just reverted an edit from a WP:GWAR IP, neither added genres nor removed. Therefore, I request for one final opportunity to make wise contributions, if I fail to abide by I won't appeal for block further. Thank you. MetalVayne talk 06:17, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I'm afraid this "Sorry, I really didn't understand... no room for humour..." pleading of innocence is not even close to convincing. Your topic ban was clear, you blatantly broke it almost immediately after coming off your previous block, and you reacted with scorn when you were caught doing it. I'd say WP:OFFER is your only possibility now. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:54, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Frankly I'm astounded that you weren't indifinetly blocked when it was discovered you had twice used sockpuppet accounts to try and avoid the topic ban. And I see no reason to believe you would respect it now when you knew all about it when you made the edit you did. In case you forgot, here in an exerpt from the closing statement:"Metalvayne is topic banned for one year from making any changes to genres in article space, whether in the text or the infobox. " So you see, you have already been given a last chance, and you repeatedly blew it, it just took a while for the appropriate consequences to manifest. Given your persistent disruptive behavior I would suggest that the standard offer to blocked users is your best path to being unblocked, but of course I will leave this request open for others to review. Beeblebrox (talk) 07:33, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not only is the topic ban very clearly worded, but a week ago, I warned him about it too, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Metalvayne#Topic_ban_-_Edits_regarding_music_genre.2Fstyle) saying that no edits to genre were acceptable, and he even responded that he wouldn't do it anymore. So I definitely don't believe any claims of "not understanding"... Sergecross73 msg me 13:14, 18 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
