Holly Valance

re: Holly Valance being related to Benny Hill. She has verified this herself, as seen on an episode of Celebrity Juice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydMDtux1gHU&feature=relmfu [1] Mikkybushi (talk) 16:33, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

I didn't challenege the facts, I just said that it was unsourced - in the article. However, barring that, I do not think it would be appropriate to list Benny Hill - afterall, a grandfather's cousin, is just a distant relative. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 03:24, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

William Windom

You removed my edit for William Windom. Dead People Server and another source say he has died. I wouldnt put something without checking it out first. Dead People Server is pretty reliable, unless they have been had. Also here is the link to the other source that states he has died

http://www.tvmediainsights.com/2012/08/remembering-william-windom/

Now the New York Times is reporting his death

Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland IS A GIGA COASTER.

Definition of a GIGA COASTER - a type of roller coaster with a HEIGHT or DROP that ranges from 300 feet (91 m) to 399 feet (122 m) and completes a full circuit. Leviathan's height is 306 feet THEREFORE, Leviathan is B&M's FIRST Giga Coaster. Plain and Simple. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.190.181.117 (talk) 13:05, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Unsourced and personal attack = Vandalism. "Plain and Simple" it most definately is, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 13:18, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

I fail to se how the spelling of his name in Cuneiform is less relevand than the spelling in Greek, or Hebrew. Most names of foreign as well as ancient rulers have their name written out as they themselves wrote it. The normalized version Sîn-aḫḫē-ēriba is an interpretation of his name made by scholars and hides many of the multiple choices regarding how his name could be read. Normalized akkadian says almost nothing about the way it was written in cuneiform, hence translitteration and normalization are both used. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.66.92.163 (talk) 14:08, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Changes to Gary Kott's Wikipedia entry

Hi there - I made the changes (wholesale, I acknowledge) to Gary Kott's Wikipedia page at his request. Gary, my father, asked me to help him set up the page in the first place a couple of years ago. He's now had a change of heart about the content and asked me to shorten it to say exactly what I'd changed it to. I agree that it might seem to have been a harsh edit, it was done at the subject's request. And as it's still factual, I didn't see the problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuporfly (talkcontribs) 14:35, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

There are a few things that I can see, that can go, however blanking out most of the article, isn't the way to go. Although it is factual, the way Wikipedia works, is that once the content has been added in - (just as long as its within policy) - it will stay. I'll remove all that can be removed. If you need assistance with anything, I'm just over here. Regards, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 14:43, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Why was my edit removed??

hi ,I don´t see why my edit has been removed and i was treated like I did vandalism? I did not want to do anything else than to update the article !--Simon1123h (talk) 21:16, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. I reverted your edit, identifying it as a test edit, rather a vandalism edit - because you signed your name multiple times in there, and in articles we do not do that. Although the edit was partially unconstructive, it wasn't vandalism - so, not to worry! Just remember not to sign your username in the article space - and also please remember to use edit summaries! :) Thanks, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 05:57, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Why are you deleting my testimony???????

I have written an article of what I am a living witness. Why are you deleting it???? History is written according to living witnesses and not according to what we feel about someone. You should know that there are more horrible things that I have witnessed, but I did not include them in my article. What I have written is like a drop in a sea. Deleting my testimony will not hide or change the facts. I thought Wikipedia is interested in showing real facts, but by deleting my article I feel that there are ones in Wikipedia who want to show only what is appropriate to them. Again here is a copy of my testimony as a living witness:

"In a successful attempt to take over what was called East Beirut, Bachir himself led his men in launching an attack on Dbayeh Camp, which was inhabited by over 3000 defenceless Christian Palestinian refugees. The only militants in Dbayeh Camp were three Palestinian policemen armed with pistols and handguns in accordance with the Cairo Agreement. Bachir laid siege and bombarded the camp for three days. On the fourth day he led his militants inside the camp. After the surrender of the inhabitants of the camp, they were gathered on a field nearby the camp, which was a former French military camp, called by the inhabitants” Il Ishli”. Bachir ordered his men to separate women and children on one side, while the men on the other side, as he personally ordered the digging of a very big hole in the middle of the field with an excavator. The hole was to be used as a mass grave for the inhabitants of the camp. Meanwhile a number of Bachirs men robbed all the houses. Luckily as Bachirs men were digging and deepening the hole, Bashirs brother Amin (ex-president) and a delegate from the church arrived. They held a meeting with Bachir. The meeting took about two hours. The inhabitants could even hear Bachir getting angry and swearing. As the meeting was going on, Bachirs men circled around the inhabitants of the camp. They humiliated them by harassing women, or with words. They used to say, your "Palestinian" Christ is a one-eyed-Christ, and your "Palestinian" Virgin Mary is a whore. A helicopter with an Israeli TV-crew was allowed to fly over and report this. After the meeting with Amin and the church delegates was over, the angry Bachir fired few shots in the air. Then Bachir unwillingly gave orders to his men to stop digging the mass grave and to release the inhabitants. In total there were over 28 Christian Palestinian men, young and old, who were slaughtered in cold blood. A group of young Palestinian men tried to flee to Beirut to escape the intended massacre. The furthest point which they reahced was the outskirts of the camp near the so-called Protestant school. That school was built and owned by three German missionary women. Near that school there were high buildings owned by Lebanese. The group took refuge in one of those buildings. The owner of that building was at one time friendly with the Christian Palestinians of Dbayeh Camp. Less than an hour later he delivered them to Bachirs militia to be slaughtered in cold blood. Bachirs militants cut off the ears of the dead and carried them around as medallions. Some old and sick men were shot in their beds. Others were killed by hitting them on their front head with an ax. A blind man was shot with his son, as they were trying to find their way to the shelter, another man was killed by driving a tanker over his body, a twelve year old girl was raped to death in front of her family, and then Bachirs men burned her body in the back yard of her house. That girl was the daughter of the owner of the only two-storied building near IL Ishli. An old shopkeeper and his crippled wife were killed in cold blood, as Bashirs men robbed their little shop. Bachirs men dumped their bodies in the old French shelters near Il Ishli. Their bodies were discovered few weeks later by one of the kids, who were playing nearby. With difficulty the priest of the church in Dbayeh Camp (St. Georges Church) was granted permission at that evening to gather the bodies of those, who were slaughtered. Some of the camps inhabitants were allowed to help. They gathered the bodies at the altar of the church, while the bodies were rapped in white sheets. As the priest was holding the funeral mass, one of Bachirs men barged in. Then he started disrespectfully stepping on the bodies and heads of the dead as he spit and swore at them. Later Bachirs militants attacked Jisr al Basha. Bachirs militants slaughtered the inhabitants of this small and defenceless Christian Palestinian camp as well, and they even raped the women. Some survivals took refuge in Dbayeh Camp. The Syrians created a coalition with the Christian parties to launch attacks against the Palestinians. As a result the Syrians helped Bachirs militants in attacking a Palestinian refugee camp inhabited by Muslims, called Tal al Za´atar. Hundreds of Palestinians were slaughtered on the hands of the Syrian army and Bachirs militia. Bachirs men cut off parts of the killed Palestinians, heads, ears and so on. Then they put them on show at the entrance of Dbayeh camp. They used to force the passersby of the Palestinian camp either to choose to kneel down and kiss a head, or get shot. The witnesses of this horrible act are still living and recalling Bachirs hunger for blood and killing. In accordance with international law Bachir is no hero but a war criminal."

I hope you appriciate real facts, because polishing the memory of a murderer will not change the course of the past history.

U Pick ... Pick your own

Hi Melbourne star ... I run two large Pyo farm in the Uk adn when I tried to find a description of what we do I didnt quite agree with what was written so I thought i would spell out a few basic rules so that customers dont get the wrong idea of what our farms are about , we certainly dont encouraage eating as you go round ... this is getting to be a major problem over here in the Uk ( not sure where you come from) perhaps that is what happens in other countries. Maybe we can come up with something jointly or I can write something specifically for Pick Your Own Farm rather than U pick ....

Peter — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.63.47 (talk) 10:32, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Peter, there appears to be two specific issues with your edit, that I'll point out to you: Firstly, Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion - you appear to be trying to satisfy the customers, rather building an encyclopedic article. Unless covered by multiple sources as something very important, "basic rules" are trivial, and are not encyclopedic article. Secondly, Original Research/Verification - You haven't provided reliable sources to back your edits up - I can't stress to you as to how crucial sources are. Need any help or want to ask me questions, I'm right here. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 10:49, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Recent removed edition to page concerning Darkseid

Dear MelbourneStar,

I am puzzled with the recent message you left me, regarding my irrelevant edition to the article about Darkseid, a fictional comic character. I have never seen Darkseid, nor read any of its comics. The only edition I had made to Wikipedia is an one to the page about the bestselling novel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which I am 100% sure of. Should this misunderstanding be a subject of my worries?

.9999 equals 1

I am mathematician and this is just completely false. Further it isn't taught in any schools by valid instructors. Finally a mathematical proof shows the stated goal is always true. It doesn't show that 1=1 or that x=1 and if you want this website to put forth credible information then you would take down this page as telling people .99999 equals 1 is as unconstructive as telling people 3=4. It's false and some people actually believe it and take the flawed math used here as "proof".— Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.83.90.139 (talkcontribs)

Hi Miyayima, and Welcome to Wikipedia!
The article you had created, was deleted on the groups of copyright infringement. Wikipedia, being the free encyclopedia, must have content that is free' to publish.
You may, by all means, recreate the article (I highly recommend you do this, here to avoid deletion, and also a place where you can personally work on it) provided that your article isn't just simply "cut&paste"; has multiple reliable sources (news articles; books etc.); and that it is done in a neutral point of view. Hi and Welcome to Wikipedia!
The mall's phone number cannot be added to the article, because it's unencyclopedic to do so, per "Wikipedia is not a directory". If you have any questions, please ask! -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 07:49, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Everytime someone googles southlake mall my place of business zumiez in the southlake malls number comes up under the google search. by wikipedia. it would make work so much less of a hassle if you knew how to resolve this — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.104.31.209 (talk) 07:53, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I see what you mean; But, the content that says "Southlake Mall is a shopping mall that is located in Morrow, Georgia, in Metropolitan Atlanta and 11 miles south from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Wikipedia" is obviously from Wikipedia; however, the rest (the image; and dotpoints [with the phone number]) has been taken from, www.morrowtourism.com, which is not part of Wikipedia. Have you tried contacting them, perhaps? -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 08:05, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

type in southlake mall in the google search engine. look at the right hand corner towards the top of your screen. there is a map with hours address and a phone number. the address and phone number belong to the zumiez. not the southlake mall. how do i fix this?

Disregard my above comment: Wrong Southlake Mall... Westfield Southlake is the mall in question. The phone number attached to the Google search, is (219) 769-6319 - which I presume is your company's number. Now, the only problem is - I'm not seeing where this number is actually coming from. No phone number has been cited in the article - so why is it showing up on Google?
I'd recommend taking this up with Google, as the site has pulled this phone number (from God knows where?). Have you contacted Westfield, who operate the mall? Perhpas thay'll be able to work something out? -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 08:17, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Update: On the bottom right of the box, in italics, there's the word "Feedback". I've clicked on it, and it's allowed me to report a problem with in regards to the details. I've reported the phone number - so hopefully it all works out for you! -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 08:20, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Removing a well-sourced section, because you don't like it, is not the way to go, here on Wikipedia. The Nicki Minaj article, has a talk page, here, where you can discuss this section with the community. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 04:24, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes, huge error. Thanks for reverting. I have no idea how I did that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:18, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the reversion of the vandalism to my user page. I was busy yesterday and not on line since Friday night. I suppose it is some sort of milestone to have one's user page vandalized. I have done only a small amount of recent changes patrolling in the past month but this type of response is occasionally to be expected. Donner60 (talk) 19:25, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to participate in my RfA. I hope that I will be able to improve based on the feedback I received and become a better editor. AutomaticStrikeout 03:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi

Hi MelbourneStar. I'm here about the MLC revert you recently did. Methodist_Ladies'_College,_Melbourne.

The board members are evidenced here: http://www.mlc.vic.edu.au/about/board_of_directors_944.htm, but this will change as the board changes (which will be next month I think). The sacking itself is in the major papers, as is the unanimous decision. see https://docs.google.com/a/holsman.com.au/file/d/0B8poAdcNcdTwb3N5M0o1dWtHVlE/edit for a copy of the letter that was sent detailing how it was unanimous.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. BS

In reply to my reasoning as "BS"... it is pretty valid.

The article sourced here,

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/celebrity/troll-slapped-with-intervention-order-after-the-janoskians-fight-cyber-bullies-in-court/story-e6frfmqi-1226500250821

Has absolutely no value in any way, the article is ignorant and had no research behind it... like seriously, no research. I can find some journalists who have written some pretty crazy stuff. Doesn't mean I use that one source and post it as fact... and seriously... News.com.au??? Blue Wolf (talk) 09:44, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

News.com.au is a News Limited newspaper service = a reliable source. You may believe that this news article is wrong - that's great. But at the end of the day, we are not in any position on Wikipedia to stipulate what is right and what is wrong when it's from a reliable source. The negativity from that news article has not been translated to the Janoskians article, as we've got a WP:NPOV policy. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 10:12, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

This reminds me of a poem I heard once about the validity of the newspapers... Anyhow- I still challenge the article, I challenge anyone to verify the "lawsuit claims" against Tristan Barker, I'm pretty sure any "reliable" sources not sourced from this... celebrity article, are non-existent. Blue Wolf (talk) 03:11, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Fact of the matter is, that article is a reliable source - it's from a news agency. I don't understand your rationale to beliving this source is unreliable - The Herald Sun newspaper, is a News Limited news agency too - do you believe that is unreliable, too? -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 03:19, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Contesting speedy deletions

I am populated photos to National Historic Places the Wikipedia invited us to submit, even after the contest ended. At that time there was no discussion about developing content, but collecting photos. However, I am working with a person in California who has first hand historical knowledge about these landmarks. The plan was to post the photo then he will follow up with copy. Is there a way of Not Deleting these while we collaborate on the effort? Recline — Preceding unsigned comment added by Recline (talkcontribs) 05:55, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Recline, and Welcome to Wikipedia!
Two things,
Firstly, there's a way your articles will not be deleted, and that's by working on them in your userspace, as a draft - where you won't be interrupted, and can take your time with adding information etc. I would suggest if you'd want to recreate the articles, without them being deleted, you start in your userspace draft. For "William Park House", create this: User:Recline/William Park House. For "John Palmer House (Lisbon, Connecticut)", create this: User:Recline/John Palmer House (Lisbon, Connecticut).
Secondly, I would like to point out that all articles on Wikipedia, must have reliable sources (news paper articles; books; etc. - secondary sources). You mention that you are "working with a person in California who has first hand historical knowledge about these landmarks." - this would be considered "Original research" which isn't permitted on Wikipedia.
Thank you, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 06:04, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
However, as Shirt58 has kindly pointed out, if these places are part of the National Register of Historic Places - The articles will not be deleted. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 06:14, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Misidentification of edit as test/vandalism

Hello, this edit that you reverted was most likely not testing/vandalism; it was a change from British to American English, probably made in good faith. That sort of thing is not on, and the edit should have been reverted, but with a manual edit summary and a more specific user warning template such as {{uw-lang}}. Ahh yes, an error on my part - I do understand what is/isn't on, wasn't born yesterday. Once upon a time, there was an IP blocked for disruptive editing. The person behind the IP was smart; and quickly switched IPs - just to edit again. However, they weren't smart enough, since they communicated again with the editor that had gotten them blocked in the first place. That person, will now make sure that this new IP doesn't "edit outside their block", otherwise they'll be re-reported.
Please read articles, or do something else constructive on or off the internet, and don't edit articles on Wikipedia, whilst blocked. Thank you, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 10:47, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Life's Kid, and Welcome to Wikipedia!
Unfortunately the website you have provided, is not a reliable source and should not be used to verify the photograph. When using a blog, the authenticity of the photograph may be off - however, a reliable source such as a web news article or a book for example, is acceptable. The section that you removed

Hi - I note that at 05:46, on the 18th of November 2012‎ on you censored something that I'd added to the article on Michael Buckley (Internet celebrity). The reason that you gave is that "all content, esp. "criticism" must have reliable sources." I found this rather odd, as surely Buckley's videos are a perfectly reliable source? Would you ask for a reliable source if somebody told you the sky was blue? One could argue that, in order to remove the section, you'd first need to disprove my point. Isn't the onus also on you to show that what I posted was untrue? Respectfully, I realise that there are rules here, but all you'd have to do to see what I was pointing out would be to simply watch one of Buckley's videos.
The main thrust of my criticism is (was, until you removed it) that Buckley's videos at Youtube use a kind of deception to bring viewers ("hits") in.
That's it. Quite simple. And true.
I just looked at his page and noted that (as an example) he's posted a video with the title "JUSTIN BIEBER THROWS UP ON STAGE" (The upper case is Buckley's). The issue here is that the video is not what it says it is. Admittedly there's a still of the event buried amongst the chatter, but it would appear Buckley's motive for posting this kind of thing is seemingly (and simply) to get as many hits as possible. So the Bieber video is actually a video of somebody (Buckley) talking to camera about Justin Beiber throwing up on stage. One imagines that this is the reason that hundreds of people leave very negative comments under his videos - because they are disappointed: the video they have clicked is not the actual event, but somebody talking about it. This is no doubt why many post comments saying exactly this: their time has been wasted.
Setting aside the fact that Buckley seems to be a kind of ancillary person that thrives in the oxygen created by others (celebrities), it seems odd that you should require me to furnish a reliable source to back up the information I have provided. After all, are his videos not a reliable source? All you need do is look at a couple of his videos to demonstrate the essence of my point.
After you've done that, I'd appreciate it if you'd replace the section you censored. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.135.189.178 (talk) 02:59, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

And I mean this quite respectfully! : ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.135.189.178 (talk) 03:03, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Hey,
It's not as clear cut as it sounds. Whilst Buckley's video's are primary sources - they must not be used to corroborate information about themselves and 3rd-parties (this criticism section includes 3rd-party claims which cannot be used per WP:ABOUTSELF).
Secondly, this is negative content - and it must have multiple reliable secondary sources if it is to be re-added - especially since the article comes under the umbrella of: WP:Biographies of living people.
Also, "All you need do is look at a couple of his videos to demonstrate the essence of my point." = WP:Original Research, which is forbidden on Wikipedia.
——————————
If you can find reliable secondary sources (newspaper articles; books etc.) - then, by all means, the content you want added in, shall be. Thank you, -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 07:32, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
—————————
Thanks. In a sense, all the negative comments that are left on his videos are secondary sources  ; )
Mentioning "newspaper articles; books" also seems strangely anachronistic and outmoded (especially considering the fact that Buckley's existence is hitherto almost entirely web-based).
…I could find a ton of online content mentioning how tiresome he is.
Seriously, fair point. I get it. Not that I agree with it: something like this that's so glaringly true - yet according to strict rules it can't be added to the article.
Thanks for the clear explanation, and please excuse the flinty tone in my message above.
86.135.189.178 (talk) 17:42, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
You may also use web news articles - apologies, I should have clarified.
If you can provide "a ton of online content mentioning how tiresome he is" - provided these are reliable sources (eg. news articles) - the section can be re-added, and or tweaked to match up with the sources.
I know, no original research aims to weed out all the contentious things people add into articles - but also forbids somewhat reasonable content - not "sky is blue" obvious facts - but still content that is partially verifiable if you follow a link. It does serve it's purpose though.
Again, no problem - and never mind that - it's not the easiest explaining something over Wikipedia! Regards,   -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 11:52, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry that you are not notable for your own Wikipedia article, but that does not mean you lash out at editors, attacking them. They are following the policies and guidlines set out by this "lame site". Maybe making constructive edits to the article, to indicate the importance or significance of the subject - would have been better, rather counter-productive attacks. Your article was deleted because it was an "Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject". In saying that, Wikipedia isn't sensative - it's the world's largest encyclopedia, and most - if not all articles on people, are notable. Fact of the matter, is that if the article about you (which you shouldn't have even created yourself) indicated it's importance and verified it with reliable sources - we would not be discussing it here, and you'd have an article on Wikipedia about yourself. I cannot delete your account, however, I do recommend you take a break, and think about coming back some other time. Wikipedia doesn't delete articles without reason. -- MSTR (Chat Me!) 07:12, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
