AfC edit

Hello Melaniegravdal,

Did you know that as a registered user you can create pages without going through the AfC process?

However, please note that if you want to create an article on Globus, it needs to be written in a neutral style and not like an advertisement. (I rejected your request at AfC for this reason.) If you have any questions please do ask me. MSGJ (talk) 16:24, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Globus Family of Brands edit

A tag has been placed on Globus Family of Brands, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. September 2010 edit

  Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Globus Family of Brands. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. Yousou (talk) 07:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The page Avalon Waterways has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appeared to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which is unlikely to be suitable for an article (or at best would need a fundamentally rewrite). Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

  Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

  Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Admittedly, I don't understand all of the rules/criteria of Wikipedia - I'm not sure anyone could. I contested the article deletion at the same time I sent you the email. Clearly, you have a strong understanding of the user-generated content, editor rules, etc. And, while I disagree that the articles I created (Globus family of brands and Avalon Waterways) were "unambiguously promotion" - again, the content was pulled from third-party, editorial resources - I would be grateful for your suggestions for improving the articles so I can restore them. I don't want this to become a tug-of-war, I simply want both the Globus family of brands and Avalon Waterways to have content on Wikipedia and would appreciate your help/advice/suggestions for making that happen.

It seems to me that you have a problem which is common among people who work in marketing or "public relations". That is that you are so used to working in marketing speak that it comes to seem natural to you, and you effectively become blind to it. There is no way that an objective outsider could see either of those articles as anything other than promotion. If you honestly can't see that then I suggest that you are so involved in it that you are unable to see them from an objective perspective. In that case you are not able to edit them objectively. This is one of the main reasons why the conflict of interest guideline discourages editing on subjects in which you have an involvement. There really is no good way of editing a Wikipedia article if you have a vested interest in doing so. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:31, 15 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Avalon-Waterways-Logo.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Avalon-Waterways-Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
