Welcome back!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Welcome back! Also, thanks for the barnstar. I think you deserve one of these too, for this particularly kind and civil conversation with a new user. I came across that conversation in December, from looking at one of the pictures that he had posted, and was happy to see that someone had been civil to him, especially since he seemed to be in a difficult situation! Cheers, CordeliaNaismith (talk) 02:56, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

How daft of me!

I should have awarded you with this right away.

  The Photographer's Barnstar
I, Pericles, award User:Mbz1 this honorary barnstar in recognition of her most excellent and thoughtful work in touching up File:Arm less man.JPG, drastically improving the visual quality of a valuable historic image used in Parthian Empire and several other articles at Wikipedia. I bow to you madam, and thank you! Pericles of AthensTalk 17:23, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much!--Mbz1 (talk) 21:22, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

You're very welcome! You can keep track of the progress I'm making on my draft here if you like: User:PericlesofAthens/Draft for Parthian Empire. I've yet to add your picture, but it will be placed in an appropriate section, most likely "nobility" or "art and architecture". Cheers buddy.--Pericles of AthensTalk 22:25, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Mirages

I wanted to let you know that working on your Mirage articles has changed the way I look at the world, and I am now seeing mirages that before I did not notice or did not understand! On Sunday we went to the beach at Long Beach, New York and there was a quite clear superior mirage on the horizon over the water. The water was only at about 60 degrees F. but the air was at 90 degrees. I did not have my binoculars with me, but next time I will take them! Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 13:02, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. It is the biggest prize for me, when my articles and my images help the readers to starting seeing and appreciating new phenomenon, and mirages are ones of the most exciting of all. Having binoculars is a good idea, and I wish next time you'd see a mirage you'd have your camera too. Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:32, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
I thought you would be pleased! Yes, next time I will take my binoculars, which are nice and small and not heavy, especially when conditions are right for a temperature inversion. My camera has only a rather small telephoto capability, so I don't know if it would have photographed this mirage very well. I will also look carefully out over the sea when I am out in California in late August. A lot of times in the past I saw what I thought was a very low cloud bank on the horizon over the sea, but I think many of those were probably superior mirages. I also saw green flashes more than once when I was watching sunsets but did not realize that that was what they were: I thought they were too small to be one, but now I know better, thanks to you! Invertzoo (talk) 20:42, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
As much as I'd like to accept the credit for telling Wikipedia readers about mirages and green flashes, I am afraid I have no right of doing this. Just few years ago I have not heard about green flashes at all, and called all mirages Fata Morgana, and thought one could see those Fata Morganas only in the deserts. But I got lucky, when I found a great person and a great teacher Dr. Andrew Young. When I lived in Ukraine, we were told that education in US is very expensive. Well, Dr. Young responded all my countless emails, all my stupid questions. I could have asked a few words question, and he would respond to me writing few paragraphs to explain it. BTW, if you really got yourself interested in mirages and green flashes, his pages are the best you could find on the NET and probably anywhere at all on the subject. Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 21:21, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Shell photos

Thanks for the new Kona photos. I always enjoy them even though I am not familiar enough with the Indo-Pacific fauna to know which species they are. Also thanks for the link to the piece about shells that has your photo in it. Invertzoo (talk) 13:53, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
