Welcome edit

Hi, I found (and still find) the welcome box useful - Wikipedia is marvellous, but rather hard to find your way about, as I'm sure you have noticed!

Most of the userboxes on my page I have copied from other users' pages - there are however some pages with lists of them - I'll try to find some links for you and post them here. DuncanHill 00:15, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Userboxes edit

You can find lots more about Userboxes at WP:BOX, which has instructions on how to create new ones, as well as links to pages with lots of different boxes (you have to scroll down the page to find the links). DuncanHill 00:18, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Thanks for the input edit

I'm sorry but I do not recall which article that was, I edited a lot of articles recently.

Ill try to find the category for what you asked. -FlubecaTalk 03:37, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help Stuff edit

Hi. What would you like help with? Rfwoolf 13:17, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
i tried to pick up an article from the translation requested page just now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Translation/Abidjan. this showed as being at stage 1, as in no one had picked it up. however, when i accepted it and tried to go to create a page, it comes up with an existing page, which looks to be a translated version of the french article.
i am not too sure what i should do/ as in, should i just change it back to stage 1 and leave it at that, or should i be informing somebody?--Mayalekhni 13:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Mayelakhni. I have moved your post here so that any Wikipedian that sees the {{helpme}} tag will see what you need help with. Give me a moment to see if I can help you, or anyway somebody will come and be able to help now. Rfwoolf 13:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I have looked at the page Wikipedia:Translation/Abidjan, and forgive me if I'm wrong/confused, but it says this article is in "stage 2: In progress" (look at the top of the page). I think if you want to help with the translation, you can go straight to the article now Abidjan.
If this answers your question and helps you, then please take off the {{helpme}} tag so that it stops calling editors to the page to help you. If it doesn't help you, then you can please say what is wrong and somebody will come again to help. Rfwoolf 13:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
it was me that changed it to stage 2, by following the instruction that said what to do to begin trnaslation, it was at stage 1 when i picked it up--Mayalekhni 13:41, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi Mayelakhni. Sorry I now understand what you're looking for. The english Wikipedia article Abidjan has existed for many many months now. Probably the same for the French article. However, the Translation Request was only made on 11 July 2007 by Francky Dicaprio. I ask myself "Why does he want a translation request for an article that is already translated?" and I can only guess that the French article is more up to date and better, and he wants somebody to compare the French article with the English article that is already translated, to see what else needs to be done.
For this reason the translation was listed as at Stage 1 - but really the translation was technically in stage 4.
So maybe you should mark the translation as Stage 2 and Try and do the new translation by comparing the current French article with the current English article. If you don't want to do the translation any more, set it back to Stage 1.
Should you be informing anybody? Yes could maybe ask User:Francky Dicaprio what he wants you to do, or ask him to remove the translation request. (Note: Franky Dicaprio is not a registered user, so you can't inform him. Please set it to stage 4 if the translation is complete, and I'll see if the page needs to be deleted then.
Hope that helps, Rfwoolf 13:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are too kind ;) Thanks for the barnstar. Let me know if you need anything else Rfwoolf

your Abidjan page edit

It looks like you meant to put this in your user page space. When creating a subpage remember to put User: in front of your username, otherwise it will look like any other article. I moved the page to User:Mayalekhni/Abidjan. By the way, you might not be aware that there is already a page at Abidjan. Cmprince 02:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mayalekhni. I'm not attached to any of the translation projects, so I can't give you very specific advice, but a great general rule is be bold with your edits. In this case, because the article already exists, you probably want to compare the two versions and improve the English version if something from the French version is missing. Don't worry too much about formatting, spelling, or language. Other editors will probably come and help out, whether you want them to or not :) Thanks for your work, and happy editing! Adoption & India edit

Hello! I noticed you're looking for mentoring, and I'd be happy to help, especially as I was first welcomed to Wikipedia by representatives of the India wikiproject. If you're interested, drop a note on my talk page. Best, Yanksta x 08:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abidjan & Mentoring edit

Great stuff. My name has just changed, in case you were wondering. I've looked through your article, and qualititatively is is fine, although there are a few places where it falters, but as you said, that's not the issue. What we need to do is integrate the new content into the existing article, which, as you commented, requires comparison between the two. What you should do is go through both your translation and the current article, and insert information as you find it missing. Don't forget to cite the facts as you insert them though.

Regarding the Gangotri article, you'll need to create an "External Links" section at the bottom, then enter the source's URL in this format- (you'll need to view it in edit mode)

If you want to name the source (otherwise it will appear as a number, leave a space after the last digit of the URL, and then insert whatever you want it to be called

If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask!

Abidjan edit

Hi! I have finished updating the English version of this article. COuld you please have a look at it? thanks!--Mayalekhni 02:04, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mayalekhni. I've looked at the Abidjan article and I can see you've done a lot of work. It's looking good! I see you have also done some work in your userspace at User:Mayalekhni/Abidjan, but I don't think you should delete Abidjan and replace it with User:Mayalekhni/Abidjan. It would be better if you try to bring the things from User:Mayalekhni/Abidjan across to Abidjan - and I think that is what you have done, but I want to make sure you understand.
Make sure you put somewhere a list in your userpace of the translations you have done so that people can recognise your hard work.
Now if you like you can submit the article for review if you want people to tell you what else the article needs. But you've done your job, very well. Translation is important between the different language wikipedia's. Keep up the good work.

Something you should look at edit

How are you, my adoptee? I see Abidjan is proceeding smoothly.

I don't know if you're familiar with the Embassies on Wikipedia? If you're interested in further translation efforts, or would like to become involved further in interlingual wiki work, do register at the French Embassy.

Hellenistic Civilization edit

Hello. Yeah, I originally intended to translate the peice, but after more careful inspection and reading of the content I decided it wasn't worth it except for certain peices from certain sections, which of course aren't cited. Go ahead and remove me from it and claim it! --Meowist 00:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Location boundiali.PNG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Location boundiali.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:08, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Adoption edit

Hi. I see that you've requested adoption, and I'd like to offer to adopt you. If you wish to accept, please leave a message on my talk page. --Sopoforic 01:45, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad to hear back from you so quickly! As for my name, Sop is fine; people seem to shorten it to that wherever I go.
I don't think there's much I can do for you regarding French/English translations--I've never studied French, I fear. However, (and this I suspect you know) the articles on local and cultural things are usually much better in the native-language wikipedias. If you're interested in translating articles from the French wikipedia, you can probably find a wealth of articles there. Even for articles which are established in the English wikipedia, the French wikipedia may have greater detail and usable references that can be added to the English article. Naturally, all this applies for translating from English to French as well, although I'm not familiar with policies on the French wikipedia.
To be honest, I have made precisely one edit to a portal: a disambiguation link repair, a little over a year ago. However I'll be glad to help you out if I can. The portals seem to be fairly static, actually: looking at Portal:Mathematics, there have been very few edits to it or its subpages other than reverting vandalism, and Portal:Science seems to have had practically no edits this year. It looks like most of the changes to these are contributions suggesting pictures and articles to be featured, or Did You Know blurbs for articles. I'll look into it, though, and ask around, and see what sort of tasks are available for the aspiring portal contributor. I'll let you know what I find.
Regarding my mathematical studies: I like pure mathematics best; I'm presently taking low-level graduate classes: I've got number theory, real analysis, and topology scheduled for the fall term. I've found that I greatly enjoyed discrete math and abstract algebra, so I'll be looking into those more.
Please feel free to consult with me if you have any questions on any topic--even if I don't know the answer (as with portals, above), I will surely do my best to find it and share it with you. I look forward to working with you. --Sopoforic 11:16, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Articles for deletion nomination of Keri no ras edit

I have nominated Keri no ras, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keri no ras. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Pujya4.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Pujya4.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. AntonTalk 18:45, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
