"USA" vs. "United States" and "Slovak Republic" vs. "Slovakia"

edit

To the person or persons who have been repeatedly reverting edits without providing explanations, would you please explain here why the rules of MOS:NOTUSA do not apply to this article? And for Slovakia, would you please explain why you insist on using something other than the WP:COMMONNAME for that country? NewYorkActuary (talk) 15:05, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

The reason I can think of why these editors keep insisting "USA" instead of "United States" is because "USA" is the name used in Miss Universe pageant. The representative of the United States is announced as "Miss USA" rather than "Miss United States". This is the same for the Slovak Republic (Slovakia) and Korea (South Korea).Hariboneagle927 (talk) 16:14, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think you're probably correct as to why the editors are doing the unexplained reversions. But if so, they're misreading the guidance. No one is suggesting that references to "Miss USA" should be changed to "Miss United States". Instead, we are saying that references to the country should follow MOS:USA and WP:COMMONNAME. And so, we are saying (in effect) that "Miss USA is the contestant from the United States", as opposed to them saying (in effect) "Miss USA is the contestant from the USA". But let's see what those editor(s) have to say about it. NewYorkActuary (talk) 16:25, 27 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
As an editor, I believe we should use USA for the United States because that is the term the Miss Universe organization uses for the country. --Snawple (talk) 04:29, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well that goes against Wikipedia policies...so no. There is no discussion on this, Wikipedia rules specifically state not to use USA unless it is a proper name. If this article was specifically referring to Miss USA, then yes we'd use USA. But it is not. It's referring to the nation of the United States, which is why that's the name that should be listed. If you want to make it USA then change the policy. { [ ( jjj 1238 ) ] } 04:43, 16 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

No Miss Photogenic on Miss Universe 2017

edit
Debris that is not worth seeing. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:08, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please update the details on Miss Photogenic. Indonesia is NOT Miss Photogenic on Miss Universe 2017. The major evidence is the Live Coverage of Miss Universe 2017 which is available in youtube and they did not announce that there is an award for Miss Photogenic. The citation is NOT a credible source since it was made up only last August 2020 (which the only basis of that source is what is written in Wikipedia). There are NO legit news from major news portal or even statement from Miss Universe Organization that Bunga Jelitha of Indonesia got Miss Photogenic award. The citation source is written in Bahasa which means only Indonesian fans made it up. Please correct this. Eltocuyoaward (talk) 19:43, 21 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Lukewon and Nguyenquochieu2107: please stop edit warring and describe the preferred version and why, here. - Bri.public (talk) 19:11, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Bri.public: Pleased check this vandalism only account named Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 this user contribution is only repeatedly vandalizing many pages by doing content removal, biased edit without reference, Unsubstantiated removal of sourced, deleting reliable references without clear reasons on what she/he does. This user also hating Indonesian representative at Miss Universe pages, deleting the Indonesian representatives name without good faith reason.--Lukewon (talk) 14:59, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Lukewon and Nguyenquochieu2107:, you can't keep just reverting each other and making accusations of vandalism [1][2]. The best way forward is to present your arguments here and see if other editors agree. That's called collaboration and the WP:Dispute resolution process. The next stop is could be an administrators' noticeboard, and you don't want to go there. - Bri.public (talk) 17:41, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Bri.public:, how come I'm vandalizing the page by providing reliable references on my edit. While on the column box of this page there is a lot of unreferenced info, but user Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 choose to delete the well-referenced one, sounds suspicious. FYI This user ->Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 are not co-operative with open up discussion like this, she/he never have intention to discuss even you PING and comment on his/her talk page. @Bri.public:, I think you should check Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 contribution is only repeatedly doing content removal, biased edit without reference, Unsubstantiated removal of sourced, deleting reliable references without clear reasons on what she/he does. @Bri.public:, he is also reverting another users edit on this page since long time ago. you can check HERE and HERE/// and his edit seems look like sock-puppet user Sandy Anugrah does HERE and HERE and many more...--Lukewon (talk) 04:44, 7 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Here's the thing. This should be about the content, not the person. What change do you want to make, what sources do you have to support it? If you can explain that, third party editors can review it and help develop consensus. This isn't a forum for spurious issues including sockpuppetry. @Lukewon and Nguyenquochieu2107: I have opened WP:Dispute resolution noticeboard#Miss Universe 2017 to try to structure a resolution to this issue. - Bri.public (talk) 15:48, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

DRN Response

edit

I'm copying this here - so that those involved see it.... and so I keep this on my watch page because I will be watching. I will also paste this on the talk page of the editor who has not chosen to be involved here thus far.

I'm closing this because the discussion on the talk page hasn't really been a discussion. One of the editors reverting has refused to engage on the talk page, so there is no reason to believe they would engage here. Also- While two sources have been provided for the inclusion of the material.... there are also WP:RS that support another candidate having won this award that year, [1] and this seems to be a behavior issue in that the editors are having a slow edit war rather than discuss on the talk page. So- I'm going to do this instead- Lukewon (talk · contribs) and Nguyenquochieu2107 (talk · contribs) both of you are to stop making accusations in your edit summaries and on the talk page, both of you are to start discussing your reasons and sources on the talk page- and neither of you are to edit the article until you reach a decision. IF after YOU BOTH engage on the talk page- you still can't find a solution, you may return here, or open an WP:3o OR WP:RFC any of the three- pick the one you think most appropriate. However, if you continue to revert without discussion- I will take this to the ANI because it will become a behavior issue if you don't start discussing the issue rather than a slow edit war. Another DRN Comment

edit

I would like to thank User:Bri for trying to mediate this dispute with two editors who do not seem to want to engage in mediated discussion. User:Nightenbelle closed the DRN just before I was about to close the DRN. I will only add that she is more patient than I am, in that my opinion is that this dispute already needs to go to WP:ANI. User:Nguyenquochieu2107 - Read What is not vandalism. If you have already read it, read it again. Read Yelling Vandalism. Do not simply revert an edit three times saying that it is vandalism. Either report the vandalism to the vandalism noticeboard, or do not make that claim. The inappropriate claim of vandalism is a personal attack. User:Lukewon - Referring to a "biased account" is casting aspersions, which is a subtle personal attack. User:Lukewon - Do not allege sockpuppetry in order to "win" a content dispute; that is a personal attack. Either report the sockpuppetry to sockpuppet investigations, or do not make that claim. If this dispute does go to WP:ANI, I will recommend that both of you be partially blocked indefinitely from the article. So take the advice of User:Nightenbelle and discuss civilly, which you have not yet even tried to do. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:03, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please keep it brief - less than 2000 characters if possible, it helps us help you quicker.

@Bri.public and Nightenbelle: First, I have the right to defence and protect myself and fellow wikipedians from being accused as a vandalism by User:Nguyenquochieu2107. I speak for the truth, not only for the sake of my own but for all of the other wikipedians who try to reach User talk:Nguyenquochieu2107 talkpage and Talk:Miss Universe 2017 talkpage but there's no further answer and feedback on what she does. I speak for a cause and the truth is there. Her only Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 Contribution page is all about reverting, her rude behaviour and attacking all editors can be seen on the [Miss Universe 2017 Revision history] page and her edit summary. started from a YEAR AGO, on 5 July 2020 User:Nguyenquochieu2107 reverting many other user edits, always deleting on Miss Photogenic award + the reliable references. And by this, I stop my contribution to Miss Universe 2017 page since 5th June 2021. But I do hope that the fellow administrators here can gave the answer for all of us that being accussed as vandalitators by User:Nguyenquochieu2107!

  • My first and only intention: I came to Miss Universe 2017 page just at 15 March 2021‎, to add a reliable references supporting Miss Photogenic title. One reference came from the biggest and oldest Indonesian national newspaper - Jawa Pos,[1] second reference is from RCTI national TV channel page.[2] Both are stating that Miss Indonesia-Bunga Jelitha is the winner of Miss Photogenic. I’m Indonesian so I can translate this for you; on the stated reference it said that (in Bahasa Indonesia); “Bunga Jelitha mengajak penggemarnya untuk flashback dengan perjuangannya saat mengharumkan nama Indonesia di ajang kontes kecantikan sekelas Miss Universe. Saat Tahun 2017 diajang bergengsi dunia itu, Bunga Jelitha menjadi pemenang Miss Photogenic dan membuat Indonesia bangga.” Here I’m translating for you in english; “Bunga Jelitha invited her fans to flashback with her struggle to made Indonesia proud in the Miss Universe beauty pageant. In 2017, on that prestigious world event, Bunga Jelitha won Miss Photogenic and made Indonesia proud.”

down bellow is the things that administrators need to investigate
User:Nguyenquochieu2107: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE
User:Ronaldpangasinan (sock puppet of User:Whiteproperton97): HERE
User:Sandy Anugrah (sock puppet of User:Whiteproperton97): HERE, HERE, HERE,
User:Panikilicious (sock puppet of User:Whiteproperton97): HERE, HERE

WHY? they only deleting on Miss Photogenic award + the reliable references since 5 July 2020 until today? While the one that suppose to be deleted is Miss Congeniality and Best National Costume award that is NOT supported with any references (Miss Congeniality even supported by wrong un-found page). another users who intended to add references on Miss Photogenic BEFORE ME also being reverted by her gang and said that they’re doing vandalism, which is NOT.

WHY no clear reason and NOT RESPONSIVE on the talkpages? I saw so many editors trying to reach User:Nguyenquochieu2107, including me on her talkpage but she does not even gave any response! since then User:Nguyenquochieu2107 kept on doing her reverting habit without clear reason and reference point on why she is doing that? after check her Special:Contributions/Nguyenquochieu2107 Contribution page, this user only created account just for deleting information and reliable reference even page blanking just because she doesnt agree with the information and references that appear on wikipedia. so It’s clearly biased disruptive edit which another users also complaint the same thing too in User talk:Nguyenquochieu2107 talkpage.

@Robert McClenon: I DID NOT allege anyone doing sock puppet. read again.. I said that User:Nguyenquochieu2107 edit SEEMS look like already confirmed sock puppet users of User:Whiteproperton97 (User:Ronaldpangasinan, User:Panikilicious and User:Sandy Anugrah). SEEMS means their edit content and behaviour are SIMILAR based on the stated history page above. WHY both of them only removing miss photogenic+the references?? which is completely strange, the same edit made by them.--Lukewon (talk) 09:39, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

you are very clearly making personal attacks here. To make accusations on an article talk page and then not take them to the sock puppet investigation board and/or the ani- is a personal attack. If you have a problem with behavior- go report it- do not continue to post these things here without a report because those are personal attacks. I’m typing from my phone now- and I will not attempt to open an admin. Report from my phone- but if you haven’t struck these comments or opened on yourself by the time I get to my computer- I will be opening one on both of you. Whatever you think of their behavior- yours is also wrong. Nightenbelle (talk) 11:06, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
