Namaste, Mathsci. This article was deleted following the recent AfD, but was restored for userficiation, then altered and moved back into the mainspace. I was about to delete it under WP:G4 as not overcoming the objections raised in the AfD, but it seems from the article talkpage that other administrators disagree. If you're keen on pursuing this, you might want to discuss the matter with the admins in question, or stick it up for a deletion review or second AfD. Race and intelligence

In the past you have expressed a very level-headed approach to this article. There has been a lenghty discussion 9argument) just in the past few days, leading to page protection. I have participated in this discussion but not much, in the past few days, so I don't know what specifically led to the protection. Unimportant. What is important in my mind is the potential for you to review the last few day's talk and identify key issues in content or content politics that you either can clarify, or where you may ask a question that might help antagonistic parties clarify the issue and move towards some way of collaborating smoothly. In any event I think your assessment at this juncture would be constructive. Slrubenstein | Talk 23:59, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Hollywood again

I am confused about the current status of Controversies related to prevalence of Jews in leadership roles in Hollywood - is it still deleted, but the deletion still under review? Or is it still deleted, and the review is over (as most people endorsed the delteion)? Ot has it been un-deleted, and merged with Anti-semitic canard? I consider the third possiblity plausible, although I personally have several caveats about a merger. More importantly, I did not see a consensus for a merger. Even more importantly I do not see any declaration that the review process is over, but maybe I missed something. Can you enlighten me? Slrubenstein | Talk 11:11, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Re: my comment about straw man arguments, I think I should have said "red herring" rather than "straw man". I wasn't trying to disparage the case of the academic you raised or to suggest it was a fictional example - indeed, I know people who were taught by her - I just didn't see the relevance of her situation to the AfD. Fences&Windows 23:44, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

The relevance is that in real life there are certain limits, even taboos, and that applies equally well on wikipedia. I think you have expended too much effort arguing about this case. Please don't post messages like this on my talk page again. Mathsci (talk) 05:10, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Topic ban

Mathsci, if you think you have a case which can earn me a topic ban for "disruptive" activity, then I strongly urge you to file a report. I think it's high time this matter be settled, as I'm tiring of this underhanded ad hominen treatment from you and Slrubenstein. I feel confident that any objective observer reviewing the discussion at Talk:Race and intelligence would find that I have not been "disruptive" at all, and that you have consistently assumed bad faith on my part and continue to misrepresent my comments. If this is not the case, and you actually manage to get a neutral editor banned on the grounds that s/he is not willing to help you push your preferred point of view, then I will gladly wash my hands of Wikipedia altogether. --Aryaman (talk) 16:05, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

A quiet word

Could you please tell me what exactly will satisfy you in this case? A community ban? An apology to_______?( insert name, page group, community). Please just say what you want to happen. You have spent a onsiderable amount of time at ANI this morning. You must have an idea what would make you not how you feel right now. If I can give it to you in ggod conscience, I will.--Die4Dixie (talk) 11:25, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I'm only one user who's looked at your diffs and tried to unravel what's going on. My advice to you at this stage is not to add any more remarks about "nice Jewish boys", "bagels", statements caricaturing Jews [Oy Vey (smacks head)], because this is counterproductive. Please don't try to pin down users by your presumptions on their background. What I have enjoyed least in all this was the process of looking through harrowing photographs on the Yad Vashem site to locate the actual image. Of course, that has nothing to do with you. Perhaps if you took a look at that site yourself it might provide you with some new perspectives in understanding what you might have been writing that has caused offense. Cheers, Mathsci (talk) 12:32, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
I am sorry, truly, for your unpleasant evening. I will take a little look, and I do regret that I was insensative, and I can see that those pictures, while still having an effect on me, cannot effect me as they have you. I worked with bodies, of course none like those. Seeing the visceral reaction to my lack of sensativity, as well as some really unfortunate remarks directed at me, I should have left comedy out of it. I´ll go look at the pictures, which i assure you will not give me any pleasure, that you can choose to believe or not. For what it is worth, with no disparaging intent שָׁלוֹם.--Die4Dixie (talk) 13:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
It was morning here in France. I note that you have been community banned. As you sow, so shall you reap (Galatians 6:7). Mathsci (talk) 20:30, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nuclearity

Since you are something of an expert on C* algebras, your input at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nuclearity would be very helpful. Thanks, Sławomir Biały (talk) 14:29, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about this. Cheers, Mathsci (talk) 16:09, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the input. I will withdraw my ill-informed recommendation. Sławomir Biały (talk) 16:15, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if what I wrote seemed a bit pointed ... Mathsci (talk) 16:26, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
No, not at all. My own knowledge of C*-algebras is limited to pretty much the very basics. It is certainly news to me (indeed it is surprising) that there is no relationship between the notion of nuclearity for C* algebras and that of other spaces. Your upcoming menus of choucroute alsacienne to be cooked in Riesling with two potatoes, échine de porc and a knackwurst and a confit de canard with cassoulet sound lovely. Indeed, it needs to be cold to support such rich foods back to back. It not being quite as chilly in Central FL as there, I have to moderate the menu. When I lived in colder climes, though - I'd better stop. I'm going to make myself hungry. KillerChihuahua?!?Advice 00:04, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Gibraltar chart

I'm afraid you did a mistake (it the bad side of not assuming good faith). I was planning to create a new chart according to the English conventions (to fix the decimal separation issue) and therefore moved the existing chart to one with a new name (in Spanish, since according to the Spanish conventions, the map was OK). Unfortunately, real life also existed and as my little daughter begun to cry, I couldn't finish the task. The interesting point is that I'm supposed to have to explain all my movements but you can do it in whatever way you like without any query or message. So, at the end, you've created a mess his the image history (now I have an image with a Spanish name that is useless in the Spanish wikipedia thanks to your rash upload only because you're too impatient). At the end, simply more work. Was it that difficult to ask? Please, upload your chart with the old name and leave me a message when it's done, just for me to remove the new image. Could it be possible? --Ecemaml (talk) 16:07, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Ecemaml, I added commas instead of points if you look carefully (using Gimp in linux to manipulate the image). Since no es.wikipedia article on the demographics article exists at present, your argument makes very little sense. Your old image is still available on Commons. If and when you need it for a foreign language wikipedia, it's easy to re-add it from the image archive with a slightly different name in the language of your choice (possibly Swahili). I also have an account on fr.wikipedia, the only other wiki where Demographics of Gibraltar occurs. Please could you try to use a less belligerent tone when making requests on my talk page? Thanks, Mathsci (talk) 16:21, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
I just made a French version on Commons and added it to the French wikipedia page. It didn't take very long. Mathsci (talk) 17:17, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

No worries, I've simply reuploaded the "Spanish" version of the chart. It's rather weird that you think that you can remove an image in a given language just because you want, especially provided that you can upload your derivate images without wiping the existing ones. --Ecemaml (talk) 17:55, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, I've fixed the mess you created, although the history of your image has been lost (it's properly attributed in the text anyway). Don't do it again, please (it's the first time I've seen in commons that a file is made useless just because it's not used yet; I assume that you're not too experienced in commons, but it does not work that way). Best regards --Ecemaml (talk) 18:04, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
No, the record is preserved in File:Population de Gibraltar (1725-2001).png. My edit count on Commons is 16. I have added 194 images and figures, some quite complicated and time-consuming reconstructions of oil paintings (eg File:Triumph3-Mantegna-bearers-of-trophies-and-bullion.jpg), to en.wikipedia. I don't know what mess you're referring to. Mathsci (talk) 20:17, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Torquemada

Honestly, yes. As a Dominican scholar, he was rather spectacular. Peter might say the same, but who knows. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:53, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

I wish you all the very best for the Christmas season and for your dissertation. I hope you can put all of this behind you. If you like religious music, you might like to listen to Bach's canonic variations on the Advent/Christmas hymn "Vom Himmel hoch da komm'ich her" BWV 769. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]. The apostolic monks kindly allowed me to play the first variatio, "Canone all'ottava", in my local church St Jean de Malte yesterday. Next term I'll probably play them on the organ in the chapel of Christ's College, Cambridge. Cheers, Mathsci (talk) 16:16, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Gah, just because I'm an apologist does not mean that I have to be stereotyped into religious music. :P My music of choice is heavy metal and alternative - the blend that radio stations call "rock". But thank you. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 16:28, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Too bad. But lucky for me that Frère Daniel likes that kind of music. Mathsci (talk) 16:39, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

No humor, please!

Dear Mathsci: Your edits, as in this diff, have shown traces of a sense of humor, which is disruptive of the serious, somber, and relentlessly grim mood that so many other good people in all walks of life have exhibited just before burning out entirely. Be advised that if you continue on this present course, you run the risk of enjoying yourself while at work on this project, and you may even have a similar effect on other editors. Please consider very carefully whether you want to be responsible for such consequences. As a German, I have to take that very seriously. — Sebastian 22:59, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Quantum KZ equations

I've tagged Quantum KZ equations as a probable copyright violation, as the main author has an unfortunate habit of uploading copyrighted material. Your edits were too minor to make much difference to this problem, but if you want to salvage any of them to help in starting a new version you've probably got about a week until the article is deleted. r.e.b. (talk) 01:53, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

On looking again, I see that you added much more than I thought at first. I've tried to move your contributions to Talk:Quantum KZ equations/Temp, so that they can be used to start the new article when the old one has been deleted. r.e.b. (talk) 16:09, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Excerpt-BWV769-IV.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Excerpt-BWV769-IV.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:12, 26 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 13:12, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
