CAMBRIDGE WIKIPEDIA MEETUP NUMBER 5

Took place: Saturday 14th November — 15:00 onwards

Location: CB2 cybercafé, Norfolk St, Cambridge, CB1 2LD UK

Present edit

Came to CB2:

Topics included technology, Dictionary of National Biography, and True Knowledge. Then some of us went off to the pub around 6.45 for what turned into a long session.

Planning edit

Now planning the fifth Cambridge meetup. On the previous pattern, I suggest the afternoon of Saturday 14 November, at CB2 cybercafé on Norfolk Street from 3 pm to about 6 pm, adjourn to a pub for those who want dinner. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:15, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We seem OK with this without the traditional debate, so this is confirmed. Here's the traditional map for those who don't know their way there. CB2 has food, drink, and wi-fi we didn't use last time. Charles Matthews (talk) 15:54, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion edit

  • This doesn't clash with the London monthly meetup, announced for 8 November. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:15, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, Charles, for getting this moving. I hope to make it. Dsp13 (talk) 19:57, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sounds plausible, I'll hope to make it, even if CB2 is a bit poncy :-) William M. Connolley (talk) 20:33, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well I failed - sorry. I blame my children William M. Connolley (talk) 19:40, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm sure I'll be able to make it, just remind me a day before :) --rainman (talk) 22:49, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely - you and WMC. Charles Matthews (talk)
  • Cambridge newbie here -I think I can make it! :) --Cyclopia - talk 09:43, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any chance of pre agreeing the pub just in case (or someone email me a mobile number)? I know I have a bit of a no show track record but evening after the kids bedtime I might get out... although I am hosting a charity do at Emmanuel on the Friday pm so twice in a row might be pushing it. Aah, sweet domesticity. --BozMo talk 17:12, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the pub is quite likely to be the Cambridge Blue which we have gone to on two previous occasions. I'm sure we could work out a rendezvous, anyway. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:19, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, I'll hope to make it. Terry0051 (talk) 20:19, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll be there! --Magnus Manske (talk) 22:07, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for the message. Although I'm in the US now, I might actually be passing through Cambridge around then. Mathsci (talk) 15:50, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm pretty busy doing Nanowrimo throughout November, but the local Nano group happens to have CB2 as a base of operations, so it's pretty likely I can decamp from their table to yours for part of the afternoon. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:56, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sounds good, as ever. James F. (talk) 10:34, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would totally be at this... If I wasn't on my honeymoon that weekend. --81.154.242.69 (talk) 14:12, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Should be there. GeometryGirl (talk) 20:31, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Seeing as I live about 5 minutes away I will try and come along for a bit. Smartse (talk) 21:42, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hope to make it this time for some of the afternoon. AndrewWTaylor (talk) 23:03, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will try to come along (possibly a little bit later). --Camtronix (talk) 23:26, 12 November 2009 (UTC) (Thanks for the kind hint on my talk page, Charles Matthews) --Camtronix (talk) 23:33, 12 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]
  • Comment : How are we supposed to recognize each other? --Cyclopiatalk 00:03, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly you've never been to a meetup before ... but go upstairs in CB2 and look for ...
... this man ...
... trying to get people interested in Wikimedia UK membership forms, or waving his hands and talking about the Dictionary of National Biography with a Wikimania sunhat on. Or we could all agree to wear a green carnation in our buttonhole, maybe. (There is usually only one group who could be Wikipedians. I'll tell you the ferret story when I see you). Charles Matthews (talk) 19:34, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, right! thanks! --Cyclopiatalk 19:38, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it would be more amusing than telling you to look on my user page; though possibly less amusing than posting a photo of User:Jdforrester and making something up about it. Charles Matthews (talk) 19:51, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I will miss it. Bad weather+work deadlines conspired against me. Sorry. --Cyclopiatalk 15:03, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I hope to be there for at least some of it Tadpole (talk) 11:46, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Managed to make it this time! Signing up retrospectively. Had a very enjoyable few hours discussing various matters, and I hope to make it next time as well. Hope the weather is better as well. Carcharoth (talk) 00:05, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
