I realize this is probably a frustrating situation for you, and I know you are up against all kinds of Wikipedia bureaucracy, bizarre processes, and approximately fourteen million acronyms :) I'm not sure to what extent you are familiar with copyright issues on Wikipedia. But I am a human being, and if you like, I will be happy to help you through what needs to happen next.

I have removed the "speedy deletion" tag you were previously notified of from this article, and instead flagged it for copyright investigation. This gives you a window of a few days to follow the instructions at WP:DONATETEXT, which involves sending an email to [permissions-en@wikimedia.org] identifying yourself, the article, stating that you are the copyright holder, and stating that you intend to release the text under one of the Wikipedia-compatible free licenses, of which by far the simplest is the Creative Commons Zero Waiver.

Once that is done, we can arrange to restore the text of the article and add the {{OTRS pending}} tag to it. This will protect it from deletion until the volunteers who deal with those emails processes your submission, which can take several weeks.

The only real sticking point is that the womenofscotland.org website doesn't have a clear terms and conditions link that I can find, so it's not obvious whether they would claim to own the copyright on your article or not. If the website doesn't say *anything* about it, you would probably have licensed the text to them, rather than donating the copyright in the text to them, in which case you should be fine to license it to the rest of the world under a free license.

Thanks for this @Thparkth. I had contacted the Glasgow Women's Library who run the Women of Scotland (Memorials to Women) site after I could find no obvious statement about copyright on their site. I am waiting for a response - they don't check their emails every day, and it may take time for someone to be able to answer my query re. copyright. I'll then hopefully have a clearer idea of which way to proceed. In the meantime I'm pleased it's not going to be speedily deleted. Margaret Ferguson Burns (talk) 17:36, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

@Thparkth - I heard back from the Glasgow Women's Library and, although they are confirming this, their view is that they encourage people to put entries into Wikipedia and other sites "...we positively encourage people to put info onto wiki as well as the WoS site. Our whole purpose is to encourage wider knowledge of Scottish women..." Anyway, I have suggested that they could put a copyright statement on the site so that this situation will not arise again if/when myself or someone else shares some common information. It may take a little time for them to check and to think about adding copyright information to the Women of Scotland site, especially since places are closing of the holiday season. Auld Lang Syne - Burns' "Authorship"

Like a great many of Burns' works, he is probably not, in one sense, the originator or the "onlie begetter" of Auld Lang Syne - so that a note that almost anything of his is "attributed" to him is not inaccurate. On the other hand we do go into this (in the "history" section) a little further down. Long standing consensus has the first sentence of the lead as it is - since the article is primarily about Burns' version, and not the (lost) folk song he (may have) derived it from.
