Velasquez rose to fame as she conquered every stage, from the free concerts in UP Diliman, appearances in the Folk Arts Theater, to the Araneta Coliseum. From 1999 to early 2000, Velasquez filled each and every seat in all her concerts. In 2004, her concert Reigning Still... was a major disappointment, with over 40% of the seating capacity filled, becoming the lowest-selling concert in the Araneta Coliseum, and in Philippine history, prompting her then-label VIVA Entertainment to buy out her contract for 20 million pesos, despite the multi-platinum status of her album Covers. Velasquez was forced to redeem herself with the release of Covers 2, which was the sequel to the highly-successful album she released previously. Covers 2 became Velasquez' lowest-selling album at that time, and was slammed by the critics, calling Velasquez "unoriginal" and "predictable". Due to this incident, Velasquez settled for the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), more commonly known as the Ultra, in both her solo and joint concerts. After a series of moderate ticket sales, Velasquez returned to the stage in a series of shows in the ALIW Theater, a concert venue that is 25% seating capacity of the Araneta Coliseum, and signed with ARIA Productions, after being dropped by VIVA. Ticket revenues of her concerts were again less than stellar, prompting Velasquez to promote further in the United States, to overseas Filipino workers and Filipino tourists abroad. As of 2009, after the commercial disappointment of Low Key, which performed poorly compared to the successful R2K and Covers, Velasquez and her management has booked all her future concerts in the SM North EDSA Theaters, a concert venue that is 15% that of the Araneta Coliseum.
