Saint Martin's School of Art
Hi! Your redirect of this new article back to Central Saint Martins resulted in an edit conflict, in which I over-rode your edit. That may not have been entirely courteous on my part, so I apologise. A few points: I created the article a few hours ago, so it is still in its infancy and has yet to grow; the school is entirely notable in its own right, with around 135 years of history, many notable staff and alumni, and ample sources from which to document them; and, perhaps more seriously, the material in the Central Saint Martins article is an outright copyvio, which I am about to tag as such. I'm going to be away for a couple of weeks now, but I'd like to suggest that Saint Martin's School of Art be allowed to stand. Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:51, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think it may be for the best to keep it as a redirect for now, until you get back from your break and can expand it more fully. I hadn't realised you were an experienced editor when I came across it - it looked like the kind of stub that a new editor who might not have realised there was a duplicate article would create. So apologies for that. All the information is covered in Central Saint Martins. I concur that it's absolutely notable, although as I suggested, redirect may be best for the time being especially if you're not going to be about to edit for a while. - Yes, I guessed that was what you thought, no problem there. I'm afraid no information about Saint Martin's or the Central School is now available on the Central Saint Martins page, as I have blanked the blatant copyvio, which dates from 1 September 2008. I understand there's quite a backlog at WP:Copyright problems, so it may be some time before that is fixed. I'm sorry, but I can see absolutely no reason to redirect the Saint Martins article if you agree that the school is notable. The point of a stub is that people may see it and work on it. There are already enough references in the article for that to happen. I'd be grateful if you would restore the redirect from Saint Martins School of Art, which I believe you also changed? It appears to be notable, but I haven't been able to find out much about the design, the making of the dress, and such things. (Yes, right after my first fashion-related article!) - I was wondering about Diana dresses. Not sure I'd say the Travolta dress was the most famous dress (what about the "Up Yours Charles" dress or her wedding dress?), but I'd argue it is certainly well known enough for an article, especially as it holds the record. I would suggest the formal title be "Blue velvet Victor Edelstein dress of Diana, Princess of Wales" (in line with other individual dress articles) though Travolta dress works as a redirect. We do need an article for Victor Edelstein which I'd encourage there to be before the Travolta dress link goes live, as he is very definitely notable. Other Diana dresses that are notable would be the Elvis dress (now in the V&A Museum), the black taffeta Emanuel dress she wore early on that caused controversy because it was so low-cut, and VERY definitely the "Revenge Dress" (or "Up Yours Charles") dress by Christina Stambolian (another needed article) she wore the day of the broadcast of Charles's interview where he admitted to adultery. Also, the John Galliano for Dior debut dress was worn by Diana, caused quite a bit of controversy, and would pass notability, but I can't really think offhand of any other Diana dresses or ensembles that would pass general notability. As for the title, don't you think that Travolta dress would be much more concise and easy to remember than Blue velvet Victor Edelstein dress of Diana, Princess of Wales? Just so you know, there is ample proof that shows that she did in fact do the Source Awards. An IMDB record was recently added. That is a completely noteworthy reference.
