Facts
editYour facts need some correction!
- Elephants are the only mammals that can't jump.
- Not true! Hippos, manatees and some other aquatic mammals, sloths, moles …
- A snail can sleep for 3 years.
- A bit misleading: they can hibernate for 3 years if the conditions are not good, but it's not "sleeping" like many other animals do.
- Polar bears are left-handed.
- Scientists in Brazil have reported the emergence of a species of super-flea; they are bigger than cockroaches and can jump 20 feet (6 m).
- That's just wrong - it was probably reported in some tabloid somewhere and repeated. I tried looking it up and can't find any good sources for where this comes from.
- Scientist John Harvey owns Einstein's brain.
- Thomas_Stoltz_Harvey#Autopsy_of_Albert_Einstein He's dead by now, and the "ownership" claim is a bit strong.
- Walt Disney was afraid of mice.
- No evidence for that. See http://books.google.com/books?id=41e-Ru0wRkEC&pg=PA112&lpg=PA112&dq=%22walt+disney%22+pet+mouse&source=bl&ots=AVmOCa_b9d&sig=FylHcPi54ZR6m-roi_EamKUF23Y&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UQEwUJ2CCMT20gGs3oD4Cw&ved=0CDcQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22walt%20disney%22%20pet%20mouse&f=false for lots of stories about Mickey Mouse's inspiration - no mention of a phobia there. Also, in an interview, he claims to have had a pet mouse while he was at school: http://books.google.com/books?id=3gdXF7eiH14C&pg=PA68&lpg=PA68&dq=%22walt+disney%22+pet+mouse&source=bl&ots=PHbjjLngDU&sig=ZVfYbfU1iYLt6I-ilRwimKcgbG0&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UQEwUJ2CCMT20gGs3oD4Cw&ved=0CFgQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=%22walt%20disney%22%20pet%20mouse&f=false
- Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors.
- Completely false: read Scissors#History.
- Shakespeare invented the word "assassination" and "bump."
- Wrong. See http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bump#Etymology - Shakespeare did seem to be the first person to use the term "assassination" in literature, but he didn't just make it up - see Assassination#Etymology.
