Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: This user name may lead readers to believe that your edits represent the Singapore Ministry of Health.. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Nburden (T) 12:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nburden,

Thanks for the welcome. I do actually work in Singapore's Ministry of Health and have been providing information about the H1N1 situation in Singapore as I noticed that the information that was on the page was outdated and some of them did not have any attributions. I did check out the conflict of interest segment on Wikipedia but as the information provided is purely factual with the required sources attributed I had thought that there was no conflict.

Do advise if I had unwittingly violated a rule as I thought that more and accurate info would benefit all.

Thanks

Actually, I checked out your contribs and you've been doing great things with the H1N1 stats. The part I was concerned about was the username policy for company and group names, as well as the "Misleading usernames" sections under inappropriate usernames. It would seem that your username violates these policies. I really hope that you do continue to contribute to Wikipedia, I just wanted you to consider a name change. Conflict of interest?

edit

  If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article 2009 flu pandemic in Singapore, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:06, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
