Daniel Brandt vandalism by 217.33.207.195

Can you please block IP 217.33.207.195 for vandalizing the Daniel Brandt page? The person is a returning vandal who has been warned numerous times, both today and in the past. He or she is intentionally blanking the entire article and is well aware that this sort of conduct is considered vandalism. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 09:07, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Done. Leithp (talk) 09:09, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Boxing Day

To Leithp, without whose help I could never have gotten Sir Richard O'Connor to the Main Page on Boxing Day. You ROCK! And I salute you!--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 13:36, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Congratulations

Somewhat belated congrats! HGB 16:01, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for help (NMMP)

Thanks for helping to fight of the evil hordes on NMMP! — Johantheghost 16:38, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

All part of the service. :-) Leithp (talk) 16:39, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Have a well-earned gong... BTW, I noticed you seem to be Highland-based, or close to... my wiki-monitoring today was done from Starbucks, Inverness (my home town)! — Johantheghost 19:03, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Regrettably no. I'm staying in Auld Reekie, though I'm from Furry-boot town (now that should confuse any non-Brits viewing this page). How on earth did you get interested in the NMMP if you live in Inverness? Leithp (talk) 19:06, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
I was living on my boat in San Diego for about 8 months, so I used to see them training all the time. One time they came past the Police Dock where we were tied up for a while (no, not in custody) and put on a little show for the boaters — which is where the dolphin jumping pic in the article came from. And then I sailed to Virginia via the Panama Canal! BTW, Auld Reekie I get... Furry-boot town??? (Been living in the US for 7 years, so a bit out of touch...) — Johantheghost 19:24, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
As in "furry boot ye fae", or the Granite City in plainer english. Ah well, I find it funny. Sailing through the Panama canal sounds like an experience. You must have been dwarfed by the tankers. I've sailed through the Crinnan canal, but I'm guessing it's not quite the same.... Leithp (talk)
Aha, glow-in-the-dark town!  ;-) Re the canal, you have no idea... skippering a 32' boat in the lock chambers you feel like an ant that walked into a huge machine. The turbulence is wicked; quite a few boats get bashed when they break a line. And the car carriers are something to see, towering over the whole thing, and wedged into the locks with 2' clearance on each side. Huge fun though! — Johantheghost 19:35, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
I had a look at the photos on your website, it looks like it was a fantastic experience. Did you take the boat back north with you? Friends who sail regularly have told me that there's some good sailing on the west coast. Leithp (talk) 19:41, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Naw, unforutnately she's for sale in Virginia, while I figure out what I'm doing next. Selling an old foreign boat in the UK is apparently a massive hassle, or I might have brought her over. I'd love to cruise the west, not to mention the Orkneys and Shetlands, and most of all the Caley canal. — Johantheghost 19:46, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah well, it's not cheap to maintain a boat in Britain anyway. You're probably better off hiring one. Leithp (talk) 20:14, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Eddie Perez (politician)

Why does someone in Scotland continually try to block the status of a mayor in Hartford CT?? Are you so familiar with this topic or do you have too much time on your hands?? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.177.95.27 (talk • contribs) .

Because you were vandalising the Wikipedia page? I don't really care if you don't like the man, but can you post abuse about him elsewhere? Leithp (talk) 20:27, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, but the mayor was actually a former gang lader in real life. Perhaps I had a bit of fun with the verbiage. I am not vandalizing the page, only the truth. I dont see how someone without any knowledge of something can make a judgment call on a particular topic.

Before you can say, "wheres the proof", here is an article from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Northeast/01/03/hartford.mayor.ap . Now, may the fact that he was a major gang leader be added without your continued meddling? Thanks.... The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.177.95.27 (talk • contribs) .

Your addition to the article was: He was a major gang leader who particpated in many violent crimes, good training for the Mayor's job, where he rapes and rules the city through ego and intimidation. Perhaps you should read our policy on neutrality before making any further edits to the article. And no, I don't have any knowledge of this man, which is why I won't be adding information to his page. I can, however, easily spot vandalism which is what your additions were. The CNN article makes no reference to any violent crimes. Basically, what you wrote was libellous. Maybe a blog or forum would be a better place for political campaigning, rather than an encyclopedia? Leithp (talk) 08:35, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Why dont you consider the fact that the above unsigned editor was editing an already biased and overly praise worthy article likely writtten by the mayor's press secretary. Your view is myopic. How do YOU know that the original entries are true and accurate and are not "libellous" to the truth." Maybe the original author should consult the NPOV policy...which you are obviously letting that pass by...You have no idea how to spot vandalism when you have no knowledge of the subject matter, which you readily admit...Where are the literary references to the original author's glowing statements?....You are not too worried about that...

This is the problem with Wikipedia, you have a bunch of IT geeks like yourself who think they are suddenly literaty editors..go back to your sheep .....Scotty...This system is a disgrace

Brilliant. The solution to Wikipedia's problems is to add as many libelous statements as possible, to counteract any possible NPOV statements. You sir, are a genius. Or alternatively, how about this for a plan, if you think there are POV statements on that page then YOU clean them up and stop fucking whining on my talk page. Leithp (talk) 09:47, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry I hurt your tender feelings. You still dont address the basic problem of the veracity of the original entries. Obviously, the "Wiki Fascists" like yourself and Ghost in the Machine would love to ban all views contrary to your own and be happy with your distorted liberal-socialist view on like. I will certainly "clean" up the entry, but the problem is that people like you and your "pal" RDH swoop in a minute later and declare it "libellous" and NPOV. What about the original asshole who wrote the bullshit on the page. The "Wiki-fascists" think...mmm...must be true...minority feel good story..no mention of his other less savory contributions to society....

I must agree with Anon IP Freely on one thing though...The system is a disgrace because it allows moronic assholes of his ilk to vandalize content, replace factual information with utter bullshit and insult first rate contributors like Leithp (Who for your limited information, Mr. Freely, happens to be an Engineer, not an IT geek). I believe registration should be REQUIRED of all IP's. Just this would easily cut back on 80% of the vandalism and bullshit. Leithp disagrees because he is less of a "Wiki Facsist" than Iam. But ridding ourselves of such idiots would be well worth the cost.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 17:29, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

RDH, I wouldnt be so proud to label youself a "Wiki Facsist", as you have no idea of what the original meaning is of that world. That particular philiosophy caused millions of people to DIE, and people who disagreed with them were put to death. Please read the Wiki entry on Facsists.

And, how do you know that the orignal entry on a page (with no corrobarting backup) is "factual information". You adjust your meaning of "factual information" to fit your particular brand of socialist bullshit. Just because Leithp is less of a "Wiki Facsist" is not a glowing statement either. The Wikipedia concept is doomed to failure becuase we have so-called editors like yourself who edit the pages to satisfy yourselves. A real editor has knowldege of a particular subject matter, and is supervised by people to ensure fairness of content. The REQUIRED registration solves no problem except less work for people like you, but still leaves an enormous creditability problem, which WIKI has been recently exposed to have. SO, have fun while you can, since this format is bullshit as far as a serious encyclopedia venue. Go help Sting save the rainforests moron..

For fucks sake, how long are you going to spend whining about the bloody article here? You have made NO EDITS to any article apart from three pathetic bits of petty vandalism, yet you are trying to dictate Wikipedia policy. I have also blocked you for violating WP:NPA. Please do not return unless you wish to add anything constructive. Leithp (talk) 23:11, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
I was going to suggest we (you, Sting and myself) hunt him down and perform a Cerebral-Colon hydrotherapy procedure. But hey, at least he got the chance to enlighten us that the Fascists killed lotsa people...I mean I had NO idea did you? All that time we spent writing about a General who fought against them and destroyed one of their armies, we'd have NEVER guessed. What a fucking genius! Such knowledge! such shit wit! It almost makes me miss the intellectual whack-a-mole game that is the Molobo experience.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 04:47, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Wow

Never has a Wikipedian so benefitted from the tools of an admin - you've been absolutely prolific in the neverending efforts against vandalism. For this, I award you your second RickK barnstar. I'm almost tempted to go replace my band tees with one that has "Leithp" emblazoned on it :-) SoLando (Talk) 21:00, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Me like blocking. Hit vandals with big stick make Leithp feel good. Leithp (talk) 21:01, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
There shall be no vandals if you keep this up....won't we be out of a job, then? SoLando (Talk) 21:04, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
On the other hand, it's probably more to do with Cryptoderk's tool. It's fantastic, especially when you have rollback. Leithp (talk) 21:06, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah man, I've been meaning to use that. It's just I've only used IRC once in five years. I'll probably crumble to the temptation one of these days, though. ;-) SoLando (Talk) 21:14, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
It's not on IRC (though it uses it), it's a standalone program that goes through recent changes and highlights suspect ones. Very useful. There is a similar program on IRC as well. I'm not much of a fan of IRC either. Leithp (talk) 21:18, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Dude, thank you for the clarification. I'd have probably delayed using it for months otherwise! I'll get round to installing it soon. In the words of Adam Sandler, it's time to open up a can of woop ass :-) SoLando (Talk) 21:23, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

I answered you on User talk:137.122.14.20.
137.122.14.20 21:34, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

No problem, I understand the frustration of being accused of vandalism falsely, having suffered from the problem myself in the past. It's the reason I set up an account, it's fairly painless and you won't be wrongly accused of vandalism again. Leithp (talk) 21:37, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Godwin's Law in action

Leithp, congrats, you have proved yourself to be a WikiFascist! How does it feel to be a great oppressor? You know, "resistance being futile" and all that? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.33.207.195 (talk • contribs) .

It feels super. How's life as a vandal treating you? Leithp (talk) 09:39, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
(rolls eyes)I wouldn't be "vandalising" as you so put it if the Daniel Brandt article was to go and if my rights with regards to my own user page were considered. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.33.207.195 (talk • contribs) .
For the record I didn't protect your user page, though I did block you (for the Daniel Brandt edit). Not that it matters, if you'd continued to blank your user page I would have protected it sooner or later. Leithp (talk) 09:51, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Go ahead..make my Wiki-day!

Yeah, that guy made me laugh. I'm not sure what response he expected after blanking my user page with abuse and a quasi-legal threat. You should go for adminship, it's far more fun than I thought it would be! :-) Leithp (talk) 14:24, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

You realize, of course, you are restoring my Wikifaith in the Admin cabal and making me not mind getting assimilated coopted by it? --R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 15:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

One man's tiresome crusade to blank a Wikipedia page

Ha! You can never get rid of me! Hail Brandt and his crusade for justice! The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.137.180.163 (talk • contribs) .

Hello again, you've left the college computers and headed home I take it? Leithp (talk)

Correctomundo. I'm using a good old laptop, therefore, I'm free to do as I will. And as usual the Wikipedian "Resistance is futile" brigade, otherwise known as WikiFascists (tm) are on my case again. Ah, I despair at the lack of democracy or free speech within Fascist Wikipedia. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.137.180.163 (talk • contribs) .

You realise, of course, that your IP appears to have been static for some time now? As a matter of interest, why do you choose to protest the Brandt article by blanking it? Surely there are better ways to get rid of the page. I mean the guy's hardly front page news, you could make a good case for deleting the page purely on notability grounds. Leithp (talk) 14:48, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
And you've been blocked. Ah well, never mind. Leithp (talk) 14:53, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

NP, I only caught it because I recognised the name. One of the unfortunate facts of life when you live in Scotland is that you'll be subjected to Travis on a regular basis. Leithp (talk) 16:23, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Kudos

Thanks for cleaning up those page blankings by 212.195.146.243 and especially for apparently discerning that he was simply confused rather than destructive. I was afraid he was going to get blocked and that'd start the recriminations all over again. Nice save. :] --CBD 15:01, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Ah, NP. I was confused for a moment, but then I saw the AFD tags were left in place so it wasn't malicious. Leithp (talk) 16:38, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Perth Glory vandalism

I note that you have already blocked an IP address 60.224.192.114 for vandalising the squad list on this article. However, the culprit(s) continue to use other IP addresses (144.137.233.116 and 219.95.223.113) along with the username Darkrifle. Perhaps they should also be blocked? ViXx 10:27, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Okay, if they continue then list the IP addresses on WP:AIV. Also Darkrifle does not appear to be a vandal, so you might want to consider removing your notice on their user page. Leithp (talk) 10:54, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I take it back. Judging by this, the user is a vandal and Juandy Tan is a fictional player. Leithp (talk) 15:33, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
And I've now listed that page on WP:AFD. Leithp (talk) 15:40, 30

Blocking

Hi Leithp, thanks for stepping in on David Irving. That was getting a little repetitive... Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 11:43, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

NP, though I see that 80.167.79.17 is trying to contest the block. Leithp (talk) 12:25, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Nutrient

I'm not sure how to use Wikipedia so I'll use edit because I can't find the post new message button..., but I'm not vandalising the Nutrients page. I'm merely switching functioning with Functions which makes more sense because the sentances arent really correct... Ex: A nutrient is any element or compound necessary for or contributing to an organism's metabolism, growth, or other functioning.

That doesnt make sense but if you switch functioning with functions it will be easier to understand.

Ex: A nutrient is any element or compound necessary for or contributing to an organism's metabolism, growth, or other functions. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.22.248.78 (talk • contribs) .

I noticed that most of your edits were good, apart from this one. I'm quite confused about what that was about. Leithp (talk) 15:46, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh, that one, I'm very very sorry about that, I have a really small house and I live with three little cousins and my girlfriend, I'm not sure who did that but I'll find out. Once again, my appoligies.

Oh, and Happy New Years! The preceding unsigned comment was added by DemonicCow9852 (talk • contribs) .

Double block

It seems you and I had the same idea in blocking 200.124.36.39. I've never blocked someone in tandem with another editor before, though, so I'm unsure what has now happened. Did my block increase the timespan from 24 to 48 hours? Or do our blocks simply overlap? Should I undo mine? — BrianSmithson 19:58, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh well, better twice than none :) I was getting a bit frustrated in reverting everything he changed :) Thanks both ! --Raistlin 20:01, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I can't imagine that it would be a problem but I've never knowingly blocked concurrently before. I'm just going to leave my block in place and suggest you do the same, they should expire within a minute of each other anyway. Glad to be of help Raistolo! Leithp (talk) 20:05, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Requesting Backup

Hi, A rather ugly spat is evolving over on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven)/archive2. One which had its origins several months ago in Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Archive 37. I'm afraid I just poured some more gas on it. You'd think with my somewhat advanced years, I'd know by now when to shut the hell up and stay out of fights. But the temper I've inherited from my Scots-Irish ancestors keeps getting the better of me. User:Giano is not one of my favorite froods. I find him to be a pseudo-intellectual troll. Unfortunately, he has some influential admin friends, notably User:Bishonen holding his leash. They have clearly shown they are not above using threats and intimidation attempts to defend their pet when he runs amuk. This is where I need your help, should they carry out their threats against me. I will ask SoL (who was a witness to the whole Rfa reform mess) and Kirill Lokshin to help too, so you won't be alone. See, this is why I'm reluctant to stand for admin. What makes this mess truly ironic is, I actually AGREE with Giano on the article and also have no qualms with it being Raul's work! SIGH, can't take me anywhere nor leave me unsupervised. Cheers bro--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 10:39, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Wow, this is a discussion about a FAC? I remember seeing Tony's RFA when it was up and being shocked at the venom in some of the exchanges. Are you worried about getting a block? I don't think you've done anything that comes remotely near to warranting that, so I don't think that's a possibility. I'll keep an eye on it if you like, but it does look a bit like handbags from where I'm standing. Leithp (talk) 11:13, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

"This is getting too silly!"
Aye, basically the Whatley Women's guild reenactment of the battle of Pearl Harbor...But it could turn ugly(er), so I would appreciate you keeping a MK-1 Eyeball on it. Blocks are one possibility. So are Rfc's (I'm gettin some real experience with them pups:), admin abuse complaints, perhaps even the meatgrinder known as Arbcom. Given the egos involved (and I'm not forgetting my own in this) there's no tellin. It has just been moved to the FAC discussion page. Maybe moving the greasefire to the backburner will cool it down before things get really silly.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 12:32, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Oh, what horrid timing to pick a fight! In case you aren't aware, much of the community is on edge over things like this, this, and this. My suggestion would be to withdraw from the discussion as gracefully as possible; tempers are fraying pretty fast. —Kirill Lokshin 14:20, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I can't see how there could possibly be a constructive end to that exchange. Leithp (talk) 14:29, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Yikes! Open season for Rfcs! So Gents, An exit strategy is in order, any suggestions? Arching it maybe before the flames reach the roof?--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 14:58, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Walk away. It'll soon be in the archives, never to see the light of day again. Leithp (talk) 15:07, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
That's the best option......I really think it's inconceivable that hands can be shaken with the history between you two, so just ignore the guy. If similar problems arise in the future, it might be appropriate to take any disputes you have with him to the more informal Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal before it escalates beyond all proportion. By the way, I can't believe Shauri and Wiglaf left....:-( Happy new year to all! SoLando (Talk) 18:06, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Well (a deep subject, indeed:), so far there's been only one minor attempt at snarkery since the last salvo exchange between Giano and I. Hopefully this means the combatants will decide to live and let loathe. Seems Ye olde Mediation Cabal has been less responsive of late (its membership has shrunk too) and just when it is needed the most. This might be part of the reason for the Rfc boom of late. RE: Shauri & Wiglaf...I'm still not yet over it:<< Thanks for the good words and good wishes mates. As I was telling the Spawn, the great Wiki pals I have left, along with caffine and sheer stubborness push me onwards...ever onwards. Why sprotect Remagine?

Im a bit confused why this page is Sprotected, when the only vandalism was coming from one user. This seems like flagrant misuse of a protection scheme which was created for use only in heavily vandalized pages, not to simply stop a one party edit war. It is easy enough to block the single offendting parth. Just my two cents. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 21:32, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

The vandalism came from User:71.192.148.217, User:Kenpo0110 & User:69.9.174.130 not just from one account though, as you say, these are probably all the same person. I thought that by Sprotecting the page it would solve the problem and help all the RC patrol members who were wasting time on that page. It did stop it, so I think it was correct in this case. Had I blocked the IPs and usernames, the vandal would probably just have used a different one. I was planning on unprotecting it tomorrow, but if it bothers you I'll do it now.
Can you also please put that page on your watchlist, as the vandal will probably return and the more eyes the better. Leithp (talk) 22:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I hadn't noticed that multiple IPs were involved. Thanks for removing the sprotect, and i will help watch it myself. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 22:22, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Francs2000's Bureaucratship

Thanks for your support on my request for bureaucratship.

The final outcome was (70/5/0), so I am now a bureaucrat. I seriously didn't expect so many good comments from everybody and I appreciated the constructive criticism from those that gave it. If you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as a bureaucrat then please leave me a note. -- Francs2000   21:56, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Smile, Leithp, my friend!

A Spanish fairy passed by this page,
blew some glittering magic Wikilove dust all over Leithp,
smiled at him,
and flew over to SoLando's page

Vandal

Vandal 205.155.207.3 defacing Maya Angelou at this momment. 201.133.95.214 19:19, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that. User:QzDaddy seems to have warned them and the vandalism stopped. I'm afraid I missed the message because I was away from my computer at the time. You may want to list future vandalism on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, where you'll nearly always get a quick response. Cheers! Leithp (talk) 19:42, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Sorry, you're right. A vandal account had been creating nonsense, and I got carried away. Jayjg (talk) 21:33, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Block 7 & Tackle

Hey M8, if I may call upon your admin powers, per favore, 67.166.145.115 is a serial vandal of the War of the League Of Cambri [1]. As you see he's been repeatedly warned, so a good 24 hr block is in order, don't you think? Graz and Ciao--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 15:09, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I was away from my computer, so applying a 24hr block now might well be pointless. As you suggest the IP is a serial blanker, more often than the two warnings suggest. It needs a {{test4}} last warning before the blocks begin, though. Give me a shout if it begins again, or if it's urgent you could try WP:AIV or SoLando and Kirill. Incidentally, there's something odd going on with the images at La Grande Armée#Forces of La Grande Armée. Particularly the image of the young guard, which appears in the middle of my screen for some reason. I tried to fix it but couldn't get the image to appear on the left of my screen. Is this just peculiar to my preference settings? Leithp (talk) 10:53, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
It might be your settings, but regardless I've had a helluva time shuffling the images around on that (Which you can see in the history). It appears ok on my screen, but part of the text still gets Funneled. So I have to either add text or delete images and to wax Bartlebian I would prefer not to. Also, I'm looking for a better painting of a French Hussar than Image:Hussar.jpg, whom I think is a member of the Irish Blue Hussars, which would be not only the wrong side of the channel but over a century too late. La Sighe, all the work I've put into that fookaire and it still needs more. Plus I have one more major section to complete. C'est la guerre, mon frere.--R.D.H. John Crocker

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I've added John Crocker to the Did you know? section of the War Portal. Kirill Lokshin 15:19, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Great, thanks Kirill. I'd forgotten about that. Cheers! Leithp (talk) 10:37, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article John Crocker, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Just so you know...

Just so you know, that after a full year long recovery from the tse tse immune defective virus, The Hardest Questions in the World Section is back on my user page!! Don't be too quick to tire the section out too quickly, but make sure you pop round to make sure you get a good score on the leader's board.... Spawn Man 04:56, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, I thought bird crap was guano as well. That's certainly what we call it at my work (it's a serious corrosion problem on bridges), the other ones I don't know without a google search. I have an inkling that the answer to Q4 is stainless steel, but that would be a wild guess. Leithp 10:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Having just cheated and looked up Victor Lustig, I can now see that I was way off the mark. For the record, the stainless steel guess was to do with the inventor of that alloy searching his discarded experiments for scrap and coming across a clean sample. I think I've got corrosion on the brain today (rather than corrosion of the brain). Leithp 10:46, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Is a repeat vandal that made last offending edit within less than 24 hours ago inactive?

I am referring to your check-in comment off WP:ANIV] in the light of [2]. (BTW he blanked his warnings-/blocks-marked talk page since then). --BACbKA 12:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you think I should have left the notice up? A punitive block only works if the user intends to edit when they are blocked, a block when the user is AFK has no effect. You're right in that I should have left the notice up for longer, it was only there for 1/2 an hour or so. Anyway, sorry if I made things difficult for you, but I didn't see a straightforward immediate resolution to the problem which is why I suggested trying WP:ANI. Leithp 14:46, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Simultaneous blocking

Good job, and we even got the expiry time right! --Deathphoenix 19:13, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

A fine judgement by yourself, sir (and me as well I suppose). Does this mean we'll both get whining emails? Leithp 19:17, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
I think the last blocking admin in the log gets the whiney emails. Thanks for shielding me! --Deathphoenix 19:23, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

"Cat Butt"

Okay thanks for telling me. I didn't know how trustable it was, or maybe it was promotion for a small band since none of the band members had articles. --a.n.o.n.y.m t 16:58, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Ah np, as it was there was no verifiability in the old article until I added the links. I only noticed it because I have one of their releases. Leithp 17:00, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

The U-Men

Hi. I noticed you restored The U-Men. I still don't think this article is establishing any notability. It really sounds like something that should be incorporated into an article about the history of grunge music. —Wknight94 (talk) 18:53, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, the article itself isn't very good. The Allmusic link is a better indication of their importance to the Seattle scene though. I'll maybe have a bash at rewriting it. Leithp 18:54, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Cinema in Scotland

Have you seen this re-nomination at Cfd: Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_January_28#Category:Cinema_of_Scotland_--.3E_Category:Scottish_actors_and_filmmakers--Mais oui! 04:36, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot about this. I've now commented. Leithp 09:51, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Ta. I've got to admit that after reading and re-reading all the comments by Delete voters, I still can't make head nor tail of their logic. There seems a certain degree of blanket anti-Scottish and anti-English sentiment. Hard to know what Wikipedia can do about people acting in bad faith.--Mais oui! 18:31, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I've given up trying to understand the motivation of some voters at *FD pages, it's too depressing. Leithp 21:15, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Freyberg, the dentist

At Talk:Bernard Freyberg, 1st Baron Freyberg I've added an explanation and a biographical extract on his career as a dentist, but have not put "dentist" back in Persondata. Greentubing 08:19, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I've replied on the article talk page. Leithp 08:29, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Block 195.93.21.106

Hi, I'm Doktorb, an AOL user with the above IP address, appear just to have been blocked... I have just created the article British Peoples Party, 2005 and wanted to check the "what links here" from the original page when the block hit me... Could you tell me when the block is being lifted? There's the election box metadata to do as well and I hoped to get it done this morning!

I know vandals and dealing with vandalism is important but any advice on this would be great. Keep up the good admin work all the same ! doktorb | words 08:51, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

You should now be unblocked, sorry for the inconvenience. Leithp 08:55, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Hey, no bother. I get used to this, and in some ways it stops me from staying on-line for ages looking for "just one more thing" to edit! Cheers for the swift response doktorb | words 09:09, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for tidying up after me

That was quick and good work you did on Henry Maitland Wilson, to improve my stumbling efforts. Thank you. -- Op. Deo 17:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
