Flag icons removed edit

Hi, you will certainly notice that I have taken the WP:BOLD step of removing flag icons from a half dozen list articles that you have been very active with. Citing the draft essay at WP:FLAG, I felt that the flag icons did not add to the effectiveness of these lists, for a couple of reasons. First, the icons were attached to section headers, and most sections were big enough that you couldn't see more than 1 or 2 icons on a screen at a time. Second, many of the "flags" were actually coat of arms, and a large number of them were somewhat obscure, so there really isn't any benefit for users to be able to scan the list using them as visual clues for the table of interest. I'd also note that about 180 new templates needed to be created solely to support these five articles, which is very much contrary to the purpose of templates - normally, each template would have many transclusions on many pages. Anyway, I hope you agree with these edits. With the momentum building behind turning WP:FLAG into Wikipedia policy, rest assured that editors will be making these kind of "flag removal" edits soon enough. Thanks, Andrwsc 01:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think you need to read Wikipedia:No personal attacks, Wikipedia:Assume good faith, and Wikipedia:Civility at a minimum. Calling me a "coward" for a good faith edit and accusing me of being a "high-handed and arrogant" administrator is completely inappropriate for the cooperative project that Wikipedia is. You should also read Wikipedia:User page to understand the purpose of this talk page. It is certainly not "personal email". It is as freely editable and open as almost every other Wikipedia page, and remains the best form of communication for the type of discussion I started. As it would be a conflict of interest for me to take administrative action against your behaviour, I will report it to the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents for outside review. WP:UKTram up-and-running edit

Hi. I noticed that you had contributed heavilly to List of town tramway systems in the United Kingdom and wondered whether you were aware of the recently-formed 'WikiProject:UK Trams'. The project is in its infancy, and would benefit from some additional knowledgeable editors. If you are interested, please see WP:UKTrams. (If you are not interested, I apologise for bothering you.)

Metro vs Rapid transit edit

I know you have made a proposal to move the article Rapid transit before. I just wanted to let you know that I have made a formal proposal now. -- Kildor (talk) 13:09, 14 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Need for references on trolleybus lists edit

Hi. I added "Unreferenced" tags to a number of trolleybus list articles yesterday, but I see that you removed all of these tags despite the fact that the articles remain unreferenced. Could you explain why? I have reinstated all of the deleted tags, and hopefully, as the primary author of these articles, you will be in a position to add references and citations in the coming days/weeks. Presumably all of these dates were not just picked out of thin air, but without references for verification, the lists have minimal encyclopedic value. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 04:17, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. I would have liked to have seen an explanation of your reasons for deleting the tags again despite not adding any references. --DAJF (talk) 04:25, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unexplained reversions to List of town tramway systems in Japan edit

I notice you have again reverted my edits to the List of town tramway systems in Japan, and thus have removed macrons from a large number of links. Unfortunately, you didn't give a reason for this in the edit summary, but could you please explain here why you think this is an improvement? Also, removing valid cleanup tags (the "nofootnotes" tag I added) without addressing the issues is not what I would call constructive editing. --DAJF (talk) 01:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of other editors' comments on talk pages edit

Please do not delete or edit legitimate talk page comments, as you did at Talk:List of town tramway systems in Japan. Such edits are disruptive and appear to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --DAJF (talk) 04:38, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ownership issues edit

Please stop assuming ownership of articles. Doing so may lead to disruptive behavior such as edit wars and is a violation of policy, which may lead to a block from editing. --DAJF (talk) 04:50, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from edit warring, and be aware of the 3RR. Just a friendly note :) --Haemo (talk) 07:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, GFDL Explanations edit

Just so you're aware, once you've made submissions under the GFDL license, you cannot later revoke your permissions under this license. Please stop with your behavior. If you wish to stop contributing to the project, that is your decision, but you cannot retroactively decide that we do not have permission to use/edit your work. SirFozzie (talk) 05:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

To add to that, as I understand your contention you believe that the last sentence of section 9 of the GFDL contravenes U.S. intellectual property law. If that is your contention, the correct place to address that is in U.S. courts, not on Wikipedia. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 06:20, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
If you are genuinely intending to persue this matter, I would suggest you wait until your letter arrives and is addressed by the foundation. If you want to speed up the matter, you can try contacting our lawyer directly User:Mikegodwin but I should tell you now that the chance the foundation will decide your claim has any merit is very likely low, as such I would prepare for a court case if you are genuinely sure of your claim. In the mean time, until and unless there is either a direction from the foundation or from the courts, the article and text is not going to be removed, so I would suggest you stop now before you are blocked for disruption Nil Einne (talk) 07:39, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please include edit summaries edit

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, which wasn't included with your recent edit to List of town tramway systems in Japan. I see this is not the first time you have been asked to include edit summaries with your edits. --DAJF (talk) 07:03, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

List of town tramway systems in Japan edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of town tramway systems in Japan. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution.

If you want to get your way, you're going to have actually talk to people instead of making unilateral declarations. Otherwise, you exhaust administrative patience and get sanctioned. --Calton | Talk 08:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Romanization of place names in List of town tramway systems in Japan edit

I have reinstated all of the romanized place names in the List of town tramway systems in Japan. They all appear correct to me, but if you have any queries or doubts over particular romanizations, please either tag them or contact me directly, and I will be happy to check and confirm them. Mass deletion is not a constructive option here. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 23:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do read this page; I do not respond. edit

All whom it might concern are advised of the following:

1.) I do read this page, and regularly.

2.) I do not, and shall not, respond to material posted here.

As a matter of personal policy, I do not respond to any communication, through any channel, from any person not known to me, unless that person provides their true name. It is obvious that virtually all persons who post messages on "User talk" pages such as this not wish to "sign" their posts under their true names. (Their personal choice; fine by me.)

3.) Matters concerning any specific "Wikipedia" article may be addressed on that article's "Talk page."

4.) With reference to 2.) above: I have stated my true name previously, and shall do so again: Leroy W. Demery, Jr. All who might wish to contact me through some other channel (e.g. e-mail, U.S. mail) are invited to do so; I reiterate that I shall not respond to any person not known to me unless that person provides their true name. Ldemery (talk) 16:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Making editors reveal their personal information as a condition of you responding to them on your user talk page is contrary to Wikimedia's privacy policy (for all wikis, not just en.wikipedia). You have decided to reveal your own information, and that is your right, but other editors have an equal right not to do that. Your refusal to engage in discussion with other editors is certainly contrary to the cooperative nature of this project. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:00, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Out of curiosity, how could you ever determine if somebody is telling you the truth? Unless you are going to demand that people post you notarised copies of their birth certificates, any "identity" on the internet is inherently unverifiable. Your "demand" for something people will not give you, and you cannot receive, is bordering on naive. Tim Vickers (talk) 17:41, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's easy. You link to your website, which is hosted somewhere sort of reputable, like, say, on a research group page on an university, and state on the page that you edit on wikipedia under your name. --Enric Naval (talk) 19:33, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
But that would mean only people which such a website are 'entitled' to communicate with Ldemery. Nil Einne (talk) 20:26, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think he was responding to Tim Vickers as to how to confirm an identity, not necessarily that Ldemery's demands have any validity. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 20:28, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm concerned about the message that you have been placing on multiple user talk pages. It appears somewhat threatening and an attempt to coerce personal information from people. Please explain what you are up to. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 19:00, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed your mesasages from those talk pages. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 19:14, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

You must have seen my message and chosen to ignore me despite the fact that I post under my own name and always have done. So let me say it more strongly. Stop trying to intimidate people and stop it now all your posts are being reverted. Continuing to post the messages will leave me no other option but to block you. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 19:28, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please feel free to write what you wish. However, I am not particularly interested in reading anything you produce, so please don't concern yourself with sending me a copy. All the best, Tim Vickers (talk) 19:32, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't edit under my real name, but I don't hide it either and I'm not going to tell it to you since it's irrelevant. If you wish to edit under your real name, good for you, but it doesn't concern me. My only communication so far with you has been to inform you that the only way you will have any chance of removing material you contributed under GFDL which we wish to retain is if you convince either the foundation or a court of law of your claims. I also mentioned I found this highly unlikely and in any case, there's no point bugging ordinary editors about it. You are welcome to write about me in regards to this, but please don't attribute to me anything I didn't do, I won't take kindly to that. Finally, please don't contact me further since I have no interest in communicating with someone who demands I tell them my real name, even though as I've already said I don't keep it a secret. Re: Your Comment to Bpeps edit

Hiya, you will probably find out my real life name from my Contributions if you haven't done so already. Wikipedia is open and I balls up like anyone else. I really haven't taken sides over the Trams in Japan article, but my reaction following through your and DAJF's contribution logs was that you had issues of ownership of articles.

As I said at Editor Assistance requests (see bottom of page) I understand that it is difficult for editors to let go of articles they have spent hours creating only to be told that "this is wrong" and "that is wrong".

I would never fill a page with policy or guidelines directed at you. I did post a quickref to the talk page at Talk trams in Japan but that was hopefully to alleviate tension not make it worse.

I have looked through all of your articles and understand why you structured the sources in the way you did. It is cool in the short-term but every article needs to be independent of its parent. Wikipedia needs editors like you, but forcing issues which conflict with the Manual of Style just makes the who project look disjointed.

I'm not sure If I can offer any help, If you are going to name me on A site critical of Wikipedia, I would hope you give me some warning before hand. -- BpEps - t@lk 19:32, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It appears to me from a quick search of your name that you're someone who could probably contribute to wikipedia significantly in some areas. It is unfortunate then that you are apparently unable to work with other editors constructively and in accordance with policy. I hope you take the time to consider whether your behaviour has really been appropriate and if you realise it was not, you try to reform and ask the community if they will let you back Nil Einne (talk) 20:32, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
