I just wanted to let you know, I'm not trying to be a dick on the RfP page; I'm just trying to make my point :) .... I don't mean to make it sound confrontational.

- No harm taken :) I replied. You make a good point; but, my reading of the "Protection Policy" leads me to the conclusion that this page does not meet the "significant" requirement for semi-protection. As I see it, the damage caused by the possibility (however remote) of keeping a potential new editor from editing the page outweighs the benefits of semi-protection. Again, "significant" is subjective, and to another admin the vandalism may be significant enough to warrant protection. Lazulilasher (talk) 21:34, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Ben Beever
Hi there, on the 5 of September you deleted the article about Ben Beever claiming the person is not noticeable enough. I've seen this person perform on several occasions for multinational events. I also know at one point, for a number of years, that he held the world record for highest number of balls juggled. I imagine that you are not a juggler and are therefore unaware of his notoriety in the juggling community, so I googled his name. In the first 100 results I spoted only 10 that did not refer to the person in the article of which only 3 where his own webpages. Any chance we can have the article back? I think the bridge people would be interested in his bridge work too, although I'm not sure if he is notable enough on the bridge scene. Thanks El grimley (talk) 22:25, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I will get back to you with a more detailed response in a few days (I'm busy IRL). In the meantime, you might be correct. There is no specific guideline, with which I am aware, that deals specifically with notability for jugglers. Perhaps being the world record holder makes him notable. Do you have sufficient WP:RS to indicate his notability? If what you say is correct, then I'd be inclined to undelete the page, and, perhaps send it to AfD or your userpace for correction. - Hey there, thanks for the note. Yes, I'd like to 'continue' clerking. The reason I have not been active is that I do not know what to do. I entered a period of Wiki-hibernation quite immediately after becoming a clerk-trainee, back in January (my Wiki-participation has always been variously erratic...I take breaks that are more due to periods of IRL business, rather than any on-wiki problems). I haven't made any edits to SPI because I'm afraid that I'll do something absolutely horribly wrong, break the bot, and cause more work for everyone :) So, the short answer is an unqualified "Yes", I would like to continue the training program and would be honored to have you as my trainor. Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Fall 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
- Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
- Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)
WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.
WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.
WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

- between Grand & Howard Streets

SPI clerking template stuff
Hey there. I saw that you added this to Jemesouviens32's userpage. While technically correct (or it would have been with {{sockpuppeteer|timeblocked|checked=yes|spipage=Jemesouviens32}}), I usually find that such a thing is unnecessary, for the users will want to remove the tags after they are unblocked. So in the cases where the master is not indefinitely blocked, I usually leave the userpage alone. I hope that makes sense; feel free to contact me if you don't. NW (Talk) 23:20, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Closed SPI cases awaiting archival
There are a bunch of SPI cases right now that could use archival. Remember to make sure, for each case pending close, all blocked socks are properly tagged (with one of the {{sockpuppet}} templates, either suspected or confirmed), that the appropriate sock categories are created via the {{sockpuppet category}} template, and that all the accounts have been addressed. UnBlocking request for IP Addresses of BOLT Browser
Hi,
I am Lokesh Joshi and work for Bitstream Inc. (http://boltbrowser.com). We have a very popular mobile browser called BOLT Browser which works on server client architecture. This has minimal load is on the client (mobile phone), and user can experience the Desktop Like browsing experience. For more information please see http://boltbrowser.com.
Recently many of our users reported the following error from Wikipedia while editing the content:
"174.132.56.156 has been disabled by the following reason(s): This IP address has been blocked because it is believed to be an open proxy or xombie computer. To prevent abuse, these proxies may be blocked from editing Wikipedia."
I request you please consider BOLT as legitimate cloud computing based mobile browser. This is not at all an open proxy and users will have to use BOLT client to work through the BOLT servers. More over the originating IP of the handset is available in the headers, so the individual user can be tracked in abuse cases.
Please let me know the steps we can do for the same. I can send the list of the IPs owned by BOLT Browser.

Redirecting SPI cases
Let me briefly go over how to redirect SPI cases. As you know, we get users who create SPI cases under the wrong sockmaster (i.e. a person would file an SPI case on a sock and not under the person behind all the socks, which makes it more difficult for people as well as SPCUclerkbot to track). The clerk instructions are outdated because of the additional functionalities that SPCUclerkbot now has (that is, we no longer do pagemoves). In a nutshell, here's how to redirect SPI cases:
- Edit the SPI case's page. At the top of the page, you'll see the following: {{SPIarchive notice|WRONGSOCK}}<br />{{SPIpriorcases}}. Change WRONGSOCK to the correct sockmaster's username, and list the WRONGSOCK account under the list of suspected socks using the {{checkuser}} or {{checkip}} templates.
- Copy the entire case that is in the edit box. That is, use Ctrl+A to copy all the content in the SPI case's edit box, and then use Ctrl+C to copy. This will shortly be pasted into a new SPI case created under the correct sockmaster.
- After you have everything copied, delete everything below the line that contains the {{SPIarchive notice}}, and save the page, including an edit summary that says that you are redirecting the SPI case because it was submitted under the incorrect sockmaster. You should now see something like this for example: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/75.89.235.174.
- Click the link that proceeds Future cases should be placed under.... Don't worry if it's a redlink; if that's the case, then we'll be creating a new page.
- Edit that page we just clicked. If it exists, replace everything that is currently there with the content that was copied in step 2; if it's a redlink, then just simply paste what was copied in step 2. Save the page, including an edit summary that says that the SPI case was recreated under the correct sockmaster's name.
For an example, here's what I did with a user who incorrectly filed a case in which User:TheBeatles420 is the sockmaster. A user created an SPI case under the IP 75.89.235.174 (see [1]). Using the steps above, I redirect the case to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TheBeatles420, as shown [2]. I then successfully recreate the SPI case [3], in which I proceed from there.

WikiProject France
Hi Lazulilasher -- I just joined WikiProject France. I am interested in French drama, particularly the work of Jean Giraudoux. It seems to me that there is not a lot of recent activity on French culture articles. For example, even an important work like Sartre's No Exit has a very minimal article with few references or sources. I am particularly disappointed that there seems to have never been any serious work on Jean Giraudoux's plays. I started out by pretty much single-handedly writing an article (such as it is) on Giraudoux's play Ondine. I have found a couple people who do occasional contributions. Can you give me any advice on drumming up interest in French drama? See my personal page Project on 20th century French drama for my rough ideas on the whole subject.
By the way, how did you get the words, "Transportation, Alsace, French landmarks" under Interests on the page Wikipedia:WikiProject France/Members? I would like to add the words, "20th century French drama" to my interests.

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4
Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

- No harm taken :) I replied. You make a good point; but, my reading of the "Protection Policy" leads me to the conclusion that this page does not meet the "significant" requirement for semi-protection. As I see it, the damage caused by the possibility (however remote) of keeping a potential new editor from editing the page outweighs the benefits of semi-protection. Ben Beever
Hi there, on the 5 of September you deleted the article about Ben Beever claiming the person is not noticeable enough. I've seen this person perform on several occasions for multinational events. I also know at one point, for a number of years, that he held the world record for highest number of balls juggled. I imagine that you are not a juggler and are therefore unaware of his notoriety in the juggling community, so I googled his name. In the first 100 results I spoted only 10 that did not refer to the person in the article of which only 3 where his own webpages. Any chance we can have the article back? I think the bridge people would be interested in his bridge work too, although I'm not sure if he is notable enough on the bridge scene. Thanks El grimley (talk) 22:25, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I will get back to you with a more detailed response in a few days (I'm busy IRL). In the meantime, you might be correct. There is no specific guideline, with which I am aware, that deals specifically with notability for jugglers. Perhaps being the world record holder makes him notable. Do you have sufficient WP:RS to indicate his notability? If what you say is correct, then I'd be inclined to undelete the page, and, perhaps send it to AfD or your userpace for correction. - Hey there, thanks for the note. Yes, I'd like to 'continue' clerking. The reason I have not been active is that I do not know what to do. I entered a period of Wiki-hibernation quite immediately after becoming a clerk-trainee, back in January (my Wiki-participation has always been variously erratic...I take breaks that are more due to periods of IRL business, rather than any on-wiki problems). I haven't made any edits to SPI because I'm afraid that I'll do something absolutely horribly wrong, break the bot, and cause more work for everyone :) So, the short answer is an unqualified "Yes", I would like to continue the training program and would be honored to have you as my trainor. Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Fall 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
- Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
- Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)
WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.
WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.
WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

SPI clerking template stuff
Hey there. I saw that you added this to Jemesouviens32's userpage. While technically correct (or it would have been with {{sockpuppeteer|timeblocked|checked=yes|spipage=Jemesouviens32}}), I usually find that such a thing is unnecessary, for the users will want to remove the tags after they are unblocked. So in the cases where the master is not indefinitely blocked, I usually leave the userpage alone. I hope that makes sense; feel free to contact me if you don't. NW (Talk) 23:20, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Closed SPI cases awaiting archival
There are a bunch of SPI cases right now that could use archival. Remember to make sure, for each case pending close, all blocked socks are properly tagged (with one of the {{sockpuppet}} templates, either suspected or confirmed), that the appropriate sock categories are created via the {{sockpuppet category}} template, and that all the accounts have been addressed. UnBlocking request for IP Addresses of BOLT Browser
Hi,
I am Lokesh Joshi and work for Bitstream Inc. (http://boltbrowser.com). We have a very popular mobile browser called BOLT Browser which works on server client architecture. This has minimal load is on the client (mobile phone), and user can experience the Desktop Like browsing experience. For more information please see http://boltbrowser.com.
Recently many of our users reported the following error from Wikipedia while editing the content:
"174.132.56.156 has been disabled by the following reason(s): This IP address has been blocked because it is believed to be an open proxy or xombie computer. To prevent abuse, these proxies may be blocked from editing Wikipedia."
I request you please consider BOLT as legitimate cloud computing based mobile browser. This is not at all an open proxy and users will have to use BOLT client to work through the BOLT servers. More over the originating IP of the handset is available in the headers, so the individual user can be tracked in abuse cases.
Please let me know the steps we can do for the same. I can send the list of the IPs owned by BOLT Browser.

Redirecting SPI cases
Let me briefly go over how to redirect SPI cases. As you know, we get users who create SPI cases under the wrong sockmaster (i.e. a person would file an SPI case on a sock and not under the person behind all the socks, which makes it more difficult for people as well as SPCUclerkbot to track). The clerk instructions are outdated because of the additional functionalities that SPCUclerkbot now has (that is, we no longer do pagemoves). In a nutshell, here's how to redirect SPI cases:
- Edit the SPI case's page. At the top of the page, you'll see the following: {{SPIarchive notice|WRONGSOCK}}<br />{{SPIpriorcases}}. Change WRONGSOCK to the correct sockmaster's username, and list the WRONGSOCK account under the list of suspected socks using the {{checkuser}} or {{checkip}} templates.
- Copy the entire case that is in the edit box. That is, use Ctrl+A to copy all the content in the SPI case's edit box, and then use Ctrl+C to copy. This will shortly be pasted into a new SPI case created under the correct sockmaster.
- After you have everything copied, delete everything below the line that contains the {{SPIarchive notice}}, and save the page, including an edit summary that says that you are redirecting the SPI case because it was submitted under the incorrect sockmaster. You should now see something like this for example: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/75.89.235.174.
- Click the link that proceeds Future cases should be placed under.... Don't worry if it's a redlink; if that's the case, then we'll be creating a new page.
- Edit that page we just clicked. If it exists, replace everything that is currently there with the content that was copied in step 2; if it's a redlink, then just simply paste what was copied in step 2. Save the page, including an edit summary that says that the SPI case was recreated under the correct sockmaster's name.
For an example, here's what I did with a user who incorrectly filed a case in which User:TheBeatles420 is the sockmaster. A user created an SPI case under the IP 75.89.235.174 (see [4]). Using the steps above, I redirect the case to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/TheBeatles420, as shown [5]. I then successfully recreate the SPI case [6], in which I proceed from there.

New York City Meetup

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikimedia Chapters Meeting 2010, plan for the next stages of projects like Wiki-Conference NYC and Wikipedia Cultural Embassy, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the March meeting's minutes).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

The Military history WikiProject coordinator election has started. You are cordially invited to help pick fourteen new coordinators from a pool of twenty candidates. WikiProject France
Hi Lazulilasher -- I just joined WikiProject France. I am interested in French drama, particularly the work of Jean Giraudoux. It seems to me that there is not a lot of recent activity on French culture articles. For example, even an important work like Sartre's No Exit has a very minimal article with few references or sources. I am particularly disappointed that there seems to have never been any serious work on Jean Giraudoux's plays. I started out by pretty much single-handedly writing an article (such as it is) on Giraudoux's play Ondine. I have found a couple people who do occasional contributions. Can you give me any advice on drumming up interest in French drama? See my personal page Project on 20th century French drama for my rough ideas on the whole subject.
By the way, how did you get the words, "Transportation, Alsace, French landmarks" under Interests on the page Wikipedia:WikiProject France/Members? I would like to add the words, "20th century French drama" to my interests.

You seem to have contributed significantly to the article on Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette. However, some references refer to books that are not explained in the article. I now added "Hirschfeld" and "Broadwell", please check that the editions don't differ (if they were by you). NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4
Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

This message is being sent to inform you of a Wikipedia picnic that is being held in your area next Saturday, June 25. From 1 to 8 PM or any time in between, join your fellow volunteers for a get together at Norman's Landscape (directions) in Manhattan's Central Park.
Take along your friends (newbies permitted), your family and other free culture enthusiasts! You may also want to pack a blanket, some water or perhaps even a frisbee.
If you can, share what you're bringing at the discussion page.
Also, please remember that this is the picnic that anyone can edit so bring enough food to share!
