WP:MALTA, Black Monday (Malta) edit

Hello. Please feel free to visit WP:MALTA to facilitate participation in Malta-related topics. Looks like you are doing some great work. Sorry for the rushed introduction, but I'm mainly wondering if you can take a look at revisions to your edits on Black Monday (Malta) - User:134.146.0.12 made it along with some definite POV elsewhere that I already cleaned up. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Malta Summit.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Malta Summit.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Malta related article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St John's Square edit

Dear member of WikiProject Malta, I'd like to invite you to participate in an ongoing Article for Deletion debate about St John's Square in the capital of Malta. We'd like your input about whether the article should stay and go (and if you want to expand the stub, that would be great too!) All the best, Eliz81(talk)(contribs) 21:25, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

AfD: Ġnejna Bay, Malta edit

Hi, there's an ongoing discussion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ġnejna Bay. I tried to improve the admittedly crappy original article like you improved St John's Square when it was nominated for deletion. I'd be grateful for any input from you as a native Maltese. Thanks :-) --Targeman 16:31, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow, great additions! There's no way the article will get shot down now. Grazzi!  :-) --Targeman 15:39, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have withdrawn this AFD, because of your great additions to it: it is now sourced, and has substantial content proving notability. Thanks, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:57, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the support, folks! lamato 16:14, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for stepping up to protect Ġnejna Bay. lamato 16:19, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
  • My pleasure! I was supposed to visit Malta this year but it didn't work out, so I'm venting my frustration by trying to learn more about the place :-) --Targeman 16:28, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maltese people edit

Coincidentally, I was taking a look at your revisions just minutes prior to receiving your message, and I must say I'm impressed. The section is well sourced and most importantly, as you said, it's neutral and presents all sides of the debate. Good job, keep up the great work, lamato. Marcus1234 12:54, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for suggesting that we wikify History of Malta. I have proceeded to make it the projects current collaboration. I might have a look at it tomorrow to see what I can do to make some improvements. Thanks -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 07:57, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Malta in lists of State leaders edit

I notice you have been adding Malta into a number of List of State Leaders in xxxx articles. I am very dubious about Malta being in the articles you have entered it into as according to our own Malta article it became a British Dominion in 1800 not an independent state. These article are for states, while I would have thought Malta would have been better in the List of Colonial governors in 1800, etc. articles as it was a dominion at the time. Davewild 17:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply, the wikiproject generally settled on putting all states that have a de facto independence into the Lists of state leaders articles. (e.g List of colonial governors in 2007 and List of state leaders in 2007. This would certainly mean that Malta between 1530 and 1798 should be on the list as the Knight Hospitallers (as I note it is on a couple of the articles already such as List of state leaders in 1747. However between 1798 and independence it would be better put on the colonies lists. Putting a short note in the 1798 article explaining what happened and pointing to the colonies list seems sensible. I have already begun removing some of the New South Wales entries as they quite clearly were not states at the time. (the amount of work cleaning up these lists is huge as the project has not been very active recently!) Davewild 19:08, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think I have got rid of all the New South Wales entries now, let me know if you see any! Davewild 19:13, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changing the names of the Maltese village articles edit

There is currently an ongoing debate about whether the articles on Maltese villages should be given their English names. Kyarichy has already gone and renamed a bunch of articles such as as Kalkara citing these changes from an old obsolete paper and http://www.geody.com, even though these names are no longer in use.

The naming conventions clearly state that foreign location names commonly used in English should be used as the article names.

It would be appreciated if you could assist us in this discussion. ~ ► Wykebjs ◄ (userpage | talk) 10:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to!
