Sami articles

It would be a good idea. Should we start a project page somewhere? Do you happen to know Norwegian (either one) well enough to translate articles out of it? I only have a thin Norwegian-Swedish dictionary from the turn of the century and my Norwegian skills are mainly related to Sámi-related things, which doesn't help me translate the more "normal" words in an article :) And yeah, I much prefer Sámi to Sami, but I gave up trying to change them all. Usually I just use Sámi and then make a lot of redirects. -Yupik 19:04, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if a project page is yet needed (but I would join it if you or someone else created it). The first priority should anyway be to clean up and improve the Sami people article. I think we may save some work by using this article as a "project page" by adding redlinks to articles we think are important. I speak Norwegian fluently so I can translate articles from the Norwegian wikipedias.Labongo 09:37, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Ah that would be absolutely wonderful if you would translate them. Ok, I've started making a list of the pages that should be done. Please feel free to add your own suggestions on the page (and even to reorder the existing ones as the layout is not altogether too pleasing). I think that we should also try and get the same articles into the other wikis at the same time. I can add them to the Finnish wiki. Do you know both Bokmål and Nynorsk? Kildin Sámi

I've started translating the Kildin Sámi articles. If you have time to help, I'd appreciate it :) I've asked Trondtr for clarification on some of the points that I'm unclear about with the article, so I'm also waiting for his response. Thanks for noticing the missing reference. Her party (Norwegian Sami Association) decided that they could not continue their cooperation with the vice-presidents one-man party, and hence they no longer have the majority in the parliament. So a new coalition has to be formed where Keskitalo may or may not be the president. For readers to understand all this the Sami Parliament of Norway article needs to be expanded with information about how the parliament is organized (is on my TODO list).Labongo 08:27, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Excellent IPv6 comment

Thank you, thank you. I've worked in the IETF since before IPv6 was selected, but no one ever explained, as well as you just did, the significance of the sparse address space with respect to routing. I tend to beat my head against the wall when people go on about how the address space is large enough to give a unique address to every insect, which was never the reason for 128 bits. Howard C. Thanks for giving those RfC articles a look and an edit. Wiki104 appears to have gone away, taking his odd brand of English with him. To answer your question about verdde. The verdde-system was (is?) a sort of trading system, where the reindeer herding Sami had one or more verdde who were typically farmers and could provide things like potatoes or sea fish, typically in exchange for reindeer meat. These were typically good friends, and it was not unusual to stay at the verdde while doing business in the area (or for the other way around). I am sorry, but I did not write that paragraph but only moved it from the Sami people article. I did it since I found it hard to read and out of place in the Sami people article.
