Welcome! edit

Hello, Ko Woo-rim, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Draft:Ko Woo-rim, which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Help request edit

Hi, so I'm new to wikipedia and want to make a biography page about one of my favorite artists (his name is Ko Woo-rim from Forestella) that doesn't have a wikipedia page yet. Yesterday I tried to follow steps from some YouTube videos and blog tutorials, and today I received messages saying that I made a lot of mistakes. First I started to make it with sandbox and then wizard articles, but I still get confused about whether it's right if my article is named as draft. All the information in my first article is based on news and contents they release as artists. So, may I ask about how to correct it cause I think it's important for artist to have a Wikipedia page especially since he and his team are now promoted internationally too. All of their information is mostly in Korean, and I simply want to help my fellow international fans learn more about him. Sorry for my English, I'm not that fluent. Thank you so much. Welcome to Wikipedia. I can understand that there are a lot of aspects that cause you difficulty.
Number one, you made a mistake in choosing your username. Since you are not Ko Woo-rim, you need to change your username to something that represents you - it need not be your real name, but it can't be the name of someone you are writing about. Go to WP:CHUS to initiate this name change.
New users are required to use the Articles for Creation process which, yes, does mean that you create a draft, not a full-fledged article. This policy is the outcome of many years of new users creating new pages that failed to live up to Wikipedia's standards and had to be deleted. Now, you create a draft and reviewers tell you - in what we hope is a friendly and helpful way - how to improve it.
Writing about members of Korean boy bands has its challenges. Wikipedia has policies around which topics can be the subject of an article called notability. Your subject must individually meet this standard, and evidence for that standard is expected to come from independent, in-depth reporting about the person. Why is this difficult? The music industry in Korea does incredibly massive amounts of publicity to promote its performers, none of which can be accepted as independent reporting. Virtually none of what the artist and his "team" have put out can be used. While you can often show that a band is notable by documenting that its songs have charted, the individual members don't become notable because of that. They need to have some sort of significant career outside the band that you can document before they become individually notable.
I don't see where you've been told that you made many mistakes. So far, the only mistakes I see are your username and your thinking that Wikipedia can be used to help promote one of your favorite artists. Promotion is not allowed. But you are welcome to put together a neutral biography based on independent reporting about him, if you can find those sources, separating out all the publicity-driven chaff that fills up any sort of search-engine results. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 07:27, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for helping me. I currently requesting to change my username.
They mostly promoted in Korea, either through concerts or shows that mostly Koreans watched, but this year they've been actively promoting in shows with large foreign audiences and participating in events held outside of Korea. So when new people watched the show and were unfamiliar with them they somehow googled them. There's a lot of information about them as individuals and as a group that's only available in Korean. It's not like direct promotion, but it just make it easier to understand information about them on a single page.
Again thank you so much for the info.
