I am trying to edit a page on actress Laura Kearsey as her page is due for deletion. I have added the external links which go to IMDB but I cannot get the little arrows to come up before it. The page is not accepting my new edits. I also want to know how to construct a contents page for her profile. This is my first time editing someones page on wikipedia. I have improved the previous edits and this is the final phase. {{help me}} Kikanbo (talk) 19:10, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

To make the "arrows" appear, you have to add <ref> before the link and </ref> after it, like this: [1]. Then, add {{reflist}} to the bottom, like so:

{{reflist}}

There you go. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 19:18, 7 November 2008 (UTC) {{help me}} Thank you very much. I have subsequently added the references to Laura Kearsey's page. Another editor has endorsed the deletion process but I have referenced external links for her. The complaint was that all references were only located in IMDB. However I have now referenced 3 outside of this for her. I want to create an external links section for her. How do I go about thi? same process as above? What can I do to contest the deletion now? Will it be re-evaluated. thank youReply

  • To do external links, you have to add a header that says "External links" and then format the link like so:
  • [http://www.nameoflink.com Name of link]

I was the editor who endorsed the proposed deletion. Personally, I don't think that the article is salvageable. The references that aren't IMDb only seem to mention her in passing, and the notability guideline calls for non-trivial coverage in reliable, third-party sources. I could find nothing on her, so I don't believe that she's notable. If you wish to contest the prod, you can simply remove the "prod" and "prod2" templates from the article, and leave an explanation (on the talk page or in an edit summary as to why you're removing the prod. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 20:09, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do wish to contest it. I have now provided other links and have seen other actors profiles on this site, a great majority of whom have less evidence than Miss Kearsey . I believe the prod has been taken off but in order to ensure this can you please give me direction as to how to remove it. This site is incredibly complex and i myself am dyslexic so I have having difficulty hence the man hours i have put in. It would be a blow if the article were to be deleted as Miss Kearsey has notable credits. I hope this matter will be seen and re considered. i feel the problems have arisen because I have had so many problems in terms of editing and understanding the site ettiquiete.

Hi Kikanbo, I just realized you hadn't yet been formally welcomed to the project! So...

Laura Kearsey

edit

As to your article, Laura Kearsey, I have to agree with TenPoundHammer that she probably does not meet our general notability policy or the guideline for actors. You should probably also read WP:Reliable sources, just to get a general grasp of what kinds of sources we are looking for. General consensus on Wikipedia is that imdb.com is NOT a reliable source. I would recommend that you take some time to browse through all of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines to get a better feel for what is going on here. Please do not take the intended deletion of your article personally. This happens to a lot of new editors who are unfamiliar with our policies. In time, perhaps Laura Kearsey will attain notability, and at that time it would be appropriate to create an article about her. It is appropriate to ask the deleting administrator to move the article to a subpage of your userpage, so that you may continue to work on the article until it meets Wikipedia inclusion guidelines. Should you still wish to remove the proposed deletion tags, then you are free to do so. Simply deleting all of the text currently surrounded by curly braces {{ }} will remove the deletion templates. However, I should advise you that should you do that, someone will probably nominate it for an articles for deletion debate, after which it will most likely be deleted. I hope you do not take this personally, and that you continue to contribute and improve Wikipedia. There is a lot to do here, and we appreciate all the help we can get! Sincerely,--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 01:44, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Okay I have red and understood all the above but I shall still be removing the deletion notice. I work as a producer (william folger) industree entertainment- (I have attached my company as an external link for her)on the latest webisode series that Miss Kearsey has been involved in filming whilst here in Los Angeles and feel she is an actress of notability. The televison show The Bill is a huge long running TV show, the Birmingham Stage Company & the derby playhouse are both established and respected theatre companies in the UK with websites and patrons of notability. Her co-star and director on the webisode series which will shortly be online and is receiving funding from sony universal is Roarch Critchlow who is an established US soap and film actor (u can research him) and as for the point regarding IMDB i have found many actors profiles on Wikipedia who only have IMDB as an external link. If these rules have been changed then several actors should also have their profiles removed. I completely understand that the site is for notable actors and not a self promotion site but Laura Kearsey has good notable credits from established companies and has more than some who have managed to be published. I am keen to see her on this site as my production company has contracted her for paid work which has enabled her to get her O-1 VISA for actress of extrodinary ability in the US. If it is a case of waiting until the webisode series are available then okay but the man power required for what I have already published is extensive. I will be working more on the site tomorrow and again ask you to re-evaluate her suitability, especially regarding the IMDB - in addition I provided external links for her which are not IMDB- again more than some actor profiles. I completely understand this is a site and a worldwide encylopedia but I feel she warrants a place. i am not offended and thank you for all your help on this matter. I shall update tomorrow and see what the outcome is. Regards Kikanbo (talk) 00:49, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I recommend that you first read WP:Conflicts of interest. Because of the relationship your company has with Ms. Kearsey, other editors will be understandably wary of any perceived promotion of her, whether it is justifiable or not. Also, could you point me to some other references? The ones that are currently in the article don't actually talk about Ms. Kearsey at all.
As for the reliability of IMDB, I know that there are other articles out there that refer to it. However, IMDB is quite upfront that they are not 100% reliable.[1] There is an oft-cited guideline on Wikipedia, WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, which basically says that the existence of something elsewhere is not applicable to the current case. However, in cases where an actor's IMDB entry is quite lengthy, that is usually an indication that there are suitable references out there that just haven't been added to the article. Ms. Kearsey's IMDB listing, on the other hand, consists of only one minor appearance, which means that we definitely need to find more sources that discuss her before accepting this article. Has she had any interviews that appeared in notable publications, perhaps?--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 05:21, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have spent my little spare time re-reading the guidelines and would like to flag up WP:Give an article a chance. I have also added an actors stub to the page and am assured that the article will be expanded. In regard to other articles of notability Miss Kearsey has a UK newspaper article being written on her next week regarding her success with the VISA and move from the UK which will be available on line shortly. The site Jakesplace.tv will also be available on line as of November 17th. She is the lead in this production and Sony is now onboard. If this article is deleted before the evidence is through then her name will not be allowed to be re-added despite success. Her one IMDB credit was a guest starring role in an episode and as I have previously stated other actors profile on this site also include only one credit. I am requesting that this article go into AFD and not be deleted this evening. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kikanbo (talkcontribs)
Kikanbo, I've tried to clean up the article to match Wikipedia's standards, and found that there wasn't much left afterwards. I suspect that the article will be deleted shortly. Please keep in mind, though, that just because an article is deleted doesn't mean that it can't be recreated at a later date when she does achieve notability according to reliable sources. Dori (TalkContribs) 23:57, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Given the fact that you say there'll be some sources soon, of course I'm willing to step back and wait a bit. The article couldn't be deleted through any other route except Afd, for various reasons. If it is, you can always request that the deleting admin move the article into your userspace for further work.--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 06:22, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

to whom it may concern. I am up to my eyes with work at present but I have been assured that 2 online sites which feature miss kearsey's move to the US and the new feature she is involved in will be online within the next week-2 weeks. I am aiming to add the correct citations next week once I get a free minute and I appreciate your efforts to clean up the article. i understand it is still under surveillence but assure you it will be added and improved very shortly so please bear with us.

deletion of archive

edit

[[ I have requested that the archive information regarding the reasons for deletion of the article Laura Kearsey be removed from public view. Miss Kearsey was not involved in the setting up of this article and the fact it is available on a public search engine is unfair in her current position. Some of the comments made by the administrators are unnecessarily cruel regarding notability & whilst the article has been deleted, the comments put miss Kearsey in a bad light. This site is run by volunteers and it would be a shame if a few peoples opinions jepardised this actresses future career in the US. remove the archived discussion board from public search please.Kikanbo (talk) 00:33, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

[[ Thank you for your co-operation. I will be more careful in future when supplying information pertaining to an article and ensure that the sources are available and of notability. Evidence for miss Kearsey will be available soon regarding her recent work in the US but until it is available I agree with the deletion policy. Thank you again for your courtesy towards miss kearsey.Kikanbo (talk) 13:56, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
