I was COMPLETELY AWARE OF THE NON-ADVERTISING RULES- have studied how bands such as Led Zeppelin, RollingStones, etc. and understand wiki format for band histories , I have 1000 + networks to advertise and promote on I do not wish or use wiki for either mentioned only to account and document. I am a credible journalist for Clarity group and understand nothing in a wiki can be promotional. In the meantime, there are a few things you could do here that might help yourself. First of all, I'm going to explain, as I see it, what you've been doing here that could be viewed as disruptive:
- You replaced your user page (since deleted) with what appears to be simply an advert for a commercial service. An earlier version from 2009 gave a short autobiography. Wikipedia editors have great latitude in what they put on their user pages, and you were quite entitled to remove that autobiography. It was the addition of advertising that became the problem at that page.
- You extended the article on Hydrogyn with a lot of content that was highly promotional in tone. Wikipedia is an encyclopædia, and we strive to present a neutral point of view. Your version of the article read like it had been written by someone paid to promote the band. It is not forbidden for people with a conflict of interest to edit Wikipedia, but we discourage it because we have seen that it is very hard for people employed to promote and market to do a good job editing the same topic on Wikipedia.
- Your content was poorly formatted and lacked references.
My recommendation for you at this point is that you use a section on this page to draft some changes you might make to Wikipedia if unblocked. Choose Hydrogyn if you must, but consider choosing to improve the content on one of your competitor's bands first (as I'm assuming the music scene is your area of expertise). Now , being a writer I do research daily and new on wiki I see several of the bands I review -I see RollingStones, Led Zeppelin, the Who, so many I can't count -I am here to stand up for indie artists and put there bands in the history of rock and roll, country, alternative and the like. What I need is to be unblocked and taught how to do this right-I am a writer for publications-so this is all by mistake and not by lack of virtue to the wiki community -I want Hydrogyn to be my first work and I want the opportunity for help you can see all the info in my revisions I want Hydrogyns page to look like all the other bands pages here -not for promotions but for historical purposes on an indillectuals life's work. Please be aware that we do not allow that kind of content in articles. editHello Kidkel69. It seems you've run afoul of our somewhat difficult conflict-of-interest rules. Not sure if you're even still editing, but in case you are:
Here's good practice: follow the (not-exactly-written-down) rule called "Bright Line", which says that if you're here for promotional purposes, never write material directly into an article. Instead, put your proposed changes to the article on the talk page, and ask people something like "Is this OK? Discussion welcome". Your proposed changes can be a complete rewrite of the article, changes or additions to several paragraphs, changing one word, or whatever. The material may be rejected, modified by other editors, or accepted as is. If it's not rejected, another editor will come along eventually and paste the changes into the article. (Writing the material into the article yourself is crossing the "bright line", hence the rule name.)
