Hi again, it's me. I was just wondering on what basis you can delete people's comments on a discussion page. At least you had the decency to notify me before removing my material but some haven't. I think it was classified as a "Rant" and deleted. Still, i was wondering if you could point me to the freedom of speech section here. Thanks again for your help. Spite & Malice 11:45, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Depending on if the article was deleted then the talk goes with as an orphaned talk page. It depends on what you did or wrote, if it was on topic, and if it was on article talk space or user talk space. Give me an example, look in the history and paste me the link and I'll let you know. BUT just so you know I will not second guess other editors or admins. Cheers Khukri 11:58, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey! I wanted to have your input on the copyright series. I really have no clue on how to insert it into the uw system since there are only 2 levels. Do you have an idea? -- lucasbfr talk 11:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I tried to give you a shout on IRC last night, I'm away until the end of the week, going up north to Caen. I'm wondering why don't just go single issue as it is on a par with pinfo and legal. You might want to read here as well. Give me a shout next week. Khukri 08:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Erf I was sure I replied :). I think a single template might either not be strong enough, or bite more than necessary. But on the other hand, I hate starting a slide towards 23 level templates... So I tend to agree with you on second thoughts. Well I'll try to do something later this week (there is no urge anyway :)). Bon séjour à Caen ! -- lucasbfr talk 16:38, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Qxz's retirement

edit

Do you know why Qxz retired? (This is a real question, not a gossip one.)  ~Steptrip 01:28, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

To be perfectly honest I'm not entirely sure. I've had a look through his contribs and those he interacted with about 10:30 yesterday morning. I have a few ideas but not enough to want to write them down, as that would unfair and speculation can be often more damaging than the truth. I've kept an eye on his comments as he's deleted posts to his talk page, and can only hope he cools down, as no matter what he thinks he was handy to have around on the templates, and certainly some of us thought his and Aza's ad banners were something fresh round here. Sorry I can't give you any more info. Regards Khukri 08:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your edit to Template:Uw-block3

edit

Hi, the recent edit that you've reverted was actually a grammar fixture. Please be more careful of your revert. — zero » 18:11, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Before making mass changes to the uw- series of warnings, please read through WP:UW and more importantly WP:UTM, indefinitely blocked is not grammatically incorrect, and if you look through all the previous permanent block they are worded the same. Your images changes are good and well seen, but please discuss the image size changes on again WP:UTM as you have now put the images out of sync with the rest of the uw- system. And on a side note I would suggest you take care on leaving edit summaries like please read policies and guidelines to established editors, as this could be misconstrude and might not come across as good faith. Regards Khukri 18:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re:Your icon changes

edit

Hi, you recently changed the icon parameter to the vandalism series of warnings. Could you please explain how the change differs from the current optional icon parser (I'm not a scripting guru)? Also can you let me know if you are going to add it to the other 100 odd uw templates please, as this series is now out of sync with the rest of the temaplates? Many thanks Khukri 07:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I can explain. I was looking at the code, and saw that for the current parameter, you'd have to add "{{template|icon=[[Image:example.png|25px|left]]}}" to change the icon. But with the new parser function I added, all you'd have to do then is "{{template|icon=example.png}}", which is much easier. Do you understand? --AAA! (AAAA) 07:43, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
The icon code isn't for changing the icon, it was simply requested by a couple of editors to disable it i.e. {{subst:uw-test1|icon=}}. Please read here (hidden amongst it all). If you are suggesting that we can change the icon for any symbol we chose I'd rather this went through WP:UTM, as this has potential problems in trying to maintain a harmonised system. Khukri 07:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay. I thought it was for changing icons, but I could see i was wrong. Anyway, I'll go and revert my edits to its previous state. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused. --AAA! (AAAA) 07:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem at all, and I think it's an idea with merit as it gives the issuing editors greater flexibility. But for now I think it should stay on the back burner until the uw- series is finished, and we have a complete instruction manual for all the warnings, as they are becoming quite complicated. Anyhoo cheers again Khukri 07:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Where do I sign up? --AAA! (AAAA) 08:07, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:UW is the project (where you can sign up) that organised the whole rationalisation shebang in the first place, started with all the multi level warnings, and we are currently killing off the last of the single issue templates. If you look here WP:UW/Overview this was the proposed redirects plan that was scrapped after too many editors decided they preferred the old system, but it still gives a good overview of the status of what needs to be done. You really need to read through all the talk pages for an idea of the work that's been done so far. WP:UTM is the day to day frontpage of the templates, this is where Joe Blow comes in for questions as to which templates to issue when an editor does blah blah. My next plan is to harmonise the few image warnings, then merge to WP:UW into WP:UTM but that still a way off in the future. Anyway more the merrier and sign up. Khukri 08:16, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Look at this diff. Did I do the right thing here? --AAA! (AAAA) 08:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yea but I wouldn't do the re-directs yet, as you'll get someone screaming it's their favorite warning, etc. We're going to leave the redirects for a while (quite a while in fact) most probably run the two systems in parallel and eventually once more editors tweak the uw- warnings to exactly how the community wants them, then the old ones will become superflous and will gradually die a long slow and hopefully not so painful death. Oh you can reply here, I have your page on my watchlist instead of having a disjointed conversation, though I will copy it over to mine to keep things tidy. I know call me a tidy nut..... Khukri 08:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image Size

edit

You probably didn't know that you did this since your probably replaced the icons with AWB but: On uw-copyright and uw-pinfo, you made the icons 25px, as you probably did for all the ones you replaced. However, I had previously made both a lot bigger because they are serious violations. The first can cause trouble for Wikipedia and the second can cause a lot of trouble for editors. So, I've changed them back. Please discuss below if you don't agree. Thanks! --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 15:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK cheers for that, I'm doing a mass tidy on all the single issues at the mo. Tell you what it grabbed my attention when I looked here just now. I personally think its really overkill and if they're going to ignore the instructions then they'll ignore the godzilla sized image. Dunno, wanna bring it up on WP:UTM? cheers Khukri 15:33, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, I recently left a uw-copyright warning for someone and it struck me as a bit too much for a first warning, even for something as serious as copyright violation. I think a bit bigger than normal would be fine.--Kubigula (talk) 16:17, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
What about 40px same as the block symbols? Khukri 16:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it should be big because copyvio's can cause major problems for the Wikimedia Foundation. Pinfo can risk someone's life (sometimes). --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 16:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RFC templates

edit

Overview entries completed as best I could understand what was required. The "rfc-xxx" templates redirect to the original template names, since those are in use by the rfc crowd (and therefore should not be deleted). Should I strike through the original names in this case, just to indicate no further changes needed? -- BenTALK/HIST 18:14, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good, was actually further north at a mates place in Saint Marie du Mont. Plenty of calvados, but trying to play golf in with a hoolie blowing off the English channel is a bit difficult ;). I'm knocking off a few more of the single issues at the mo, I'll look at your copyright temp this evening. Cheers Khukri 13:24, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
As long the Calva is not what was preventing you from playing golf ;). Beware of that template, it is quite ugly! -- lucasbfr talk 13:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
For the copyright you may wanna give User:Centrx a shout, off the top of my head he's one that know a bit about the subject. If you have a look at the single issues here, I'm thinking about making all the notices (down below) all have a similar start such as Hello. or Thank you for not screwing up wiki too much or somthing along those lines. The welcome to wikipedia's I think I'll remove. Whaddya think. Khukri 13:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

New Single Use Templates

edit

Thanks for creating all those new templates! We're going to have to do something about the cut and paste move one though. As of now, it requires two parameters. So, either we give it a special templates notice, or we change it to just "from [article]". --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 14:54, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your welcome. I'd noticed that, but couldn't think of a way of banging it into one. For now I think those that use it, have an idea how templates work, and will notice which parameters go where, but your right I think it's going to have to be a one off. It's be nice to keep the both from and to part of the next but in the end for the sake of expediency I think it'll go as you just to from article. With the exception of tilde (which I'll sort later) all of them have the standard 1 = article 2 = extra commentary. cheers Khukri 15:00, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can also add a named parameter (to have 1=Article1, 2=Comment, from=Article2 for example). I am toying with the idea with uw-copyright at the moment (to add a link to the page that was ripped off) -- lucasbfr talk 16:34, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Give that man a star, by Jove I think he's got it! I'll mod it to exactly that this evenin. Khukri 16:51, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
The only issue in this case is documentation... I don't know how to organize the template page to add the information about the last parameter :) -- lucasbfr talk 12:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've rigged it so that if someone doesn't understand it they'll just get where they copied from. Have to say quite chuffed with it to be honest as I'm shit at scripting. I think Teckwiz hit the nail on the head might have to do a seperate one, or just copy the single templates notice to it, and edit it directly. Khukri 13:32, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
We forgot a 3rr block message. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@(Lets go Yankees!) 19:21, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I was bored, I did it: {{uw-3rrblock}}. -- lucasbfr talk 22:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

AWB guru needed

edit

Hey, I checked some random templates, and it seems that if a lot are implementing the {{{{{subst|}}}#if:{{{1|}}}|[[:{{{1}}}]]|an article}} (subst=subst:) thingie, very few to none of them are implementing the same trick on the second parameter. I was quite surprised to be honest. You know AWB much more than I do, so if you want to replace the {{{2|Thank you.}}} into {{{{{subst|}}}#if:{{{2|}}}|{{{2}}}|Thank you.}} that would be great! (yeah that's ugly but the output is nicer) -- lucasbfr talk 12:45, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

An only warning IS a final warning. He had 2 bot warnings and an only warning on 15 April that next time he'd be blocked. It's a static IP, meaning the normal rules applying to anons don't apply. Nardman1 21:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

With a month gone by since the last warning who knows what has happened behind that IP. Unfortunately last warnings do not have an indefinate life span, and we have to AGF. They have a warning now, if the head pops above the parapet with the same sort of vandalism have no fear it will get blocked. Cheers Khukri 21:14, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
They've continuously edited THE SAME ARTICLE since November. Only one article. I respectfully disagree, but it will do no good to fight this. Nardman1 21:16, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I re-listed it and it got blocked for a month. Thanks anyway. Nardman1 21:22, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is what I was going to post to you before but edit conflicted you jumped the gun, and reposted. Khukri 21:27, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I did take note of that before I removed your request at AIV. I fully understand your position, but we have to assume the moral high ground, and give them a warning they are going to be blocked for their actions. Looking at their edit pattern unless we go for a permanent block by the time they come back their normal block would have expired anyway. They have the last warning their again, if they come back in a short term then we go for a normal block, if they come back again in a month or more then we'll have to look a permanent or long term block. Cheers Khukri 21:27, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

For future note from {{uw-aiv}}: However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. Khukri 21:57, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Your AVI report

Thanks for getting back to me on my page. Unfortunately, we disagree on the issue of him committing vandalism only once.

  1. [1] - This is nonsense in my opinion.
  2. [2] - Two nonsense articles the person created.
  3. [3] - Deliberate vandalism, as we've both agreed.

Maybe the user was experimenting if we assume good faith. You're right though, in that the user hasn't been given a final warning. I've given the user this final warning due to the two nonsense article creations and one page blank, so then he knows the situation now. If he signs and commits more vandalism acts, admins can then feel free to take action. Thanks for your time and enlightening me more on Wikipedia's procedures on dealing with vandals - the admin board for vandalism is under-utilized in my opinion. OK no probs, the second one the edit would have been deleted when the article was. First one I don't know enough about the subject and again it would be opinion. thanks to both of you. Now how do I send a warning in the future? I had no idea I could send one. Callelinea 17:07, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are a whole series of warning templates you can use to warn people. If you read WP:WARN, you can see a comprehensive list of them, including how to use them. Basically, you type, {{subst:uw-test1|some article}} - ~~~~, with the correct article name (optional). This will give you something like this;

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with the page some article on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. - Alison 17:14, 23 May 2007 (UTC)</nowiki>Reply

Feel free to delete this, Khukri :-) You don't have to be an admin to warn folks. You can also welcome people in the same manner with the {{welcome}} template - Alison 17:14, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blake Vining

edit

Hi, if you read Seattle_Seahawks#Current_depth_chart and click on Blake Vining, all you get is a page with zero content which must not even be created in the future.

I don't know anything about sports, so please explain to me why Vining is the only player from this chart who must not have his own article—not now, not in the future.

All the best, <KF> 21:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've no problems removing the protection, but what it needs is someone who does know about sport to explain why he is notable. It's been deleted by two concurring admins, nominated for speedy by two different editors, and as far as I can see has no-one tried to put a stop to this by ascertaining notability. Because he is member of a renowned team IMHO doesn't make him notable, but I can be persuaded. Cheers Khukri 09:04, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cassidy Janson

edit

I have no problem with deleting the article, when I looked at it originally, it said she was going to be taking on the role of Elphaba soon, now it says she will be primary backup. That's not notability, so if you want to delete it, then I have no objections. Corvus cornix

OK thanks, deleted. Khukri 20:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Finger Lickin' Records

edit

Hi Khurki. From a google cache of the Wikipedia article, it appears there used to be a more appropriate version of this article. I can't revert back to it because it was deleted, but wondered if you, as an admin, could restore it (so we get the history for GFDL)? -- Siobhan Hansa 18:47, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for restoring (and the barnstar!) -- Siobhan Hansa 19:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for asking. It's flattering that people like yourself think I would be suitable. I have been approached a couple of times, but honestly you all get so much hassle and the whole RfA thing is so nasty that at the moment I'd rather be a plain old editor and leave that to others! I do appreciate the work you admins do - always at the beck and call of others and often thankless and messy. -- Siobhan Hansa 11:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Giorgos Efrem

edit

Can you explain why you felt the need to delete the Giorgos Efrem wiki entry?

You say "Youth player, not part of senior squad" How could you possibly know this when he hasn't even properly joined the new club? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RedZinc (talkcontribs)

That was the nominating editor who wrote that. And you have already answered my question for why I agreed and deleted it. If he has not properly joined the new club, has not played, is not part of the senior squad, in what way is he notable? In what way is he different from the millions of other youngsters who have signed for reserve or jnr football sides around the world, or played school boy representative football or been an aspiring player at any other sport rugby, basketball, etc. When you can demonstrate this notability then I (or you can try another admin) might change our minds. Also please sign your posts with ~~~~, as I have written above I will delete non signed posts. Khukri 14:07, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi... I think this vandalism was actually a response to the final warning. They occurred in the same minute. --Rrburke(talk) 14:36, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

User warning about personal info

edit

Hi Khukri
Thank you for your swift response to delete personal info from the edit hisotry of the article Naperville Central High School. Is there a user warning template that covers both vandalism and publishing of other peoples personal info? All I could find was {{uw-pinfo}}, which looks like it only is concerned about users with a wiki account. The reason I ask is it is not the first time that I see people add personal info and unfit comments about poeple in school articles.

Best regards
Mads Angelbo Talk / Contribs 08:20, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding this question here I thought you used some kind of WP:OVERSIGHT to delete the edit history
Mads Angelbo Talk / Contribs 08:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
All just a bit weird, as I put on WP:AN, to remove pinfo and then not dish out a warning was just a bit bizarre that's all. {{pinfo}} isn't just geared to logged in users but to anonymous IP's as well and if I had personally seen the pinfo posted I would have most probably issued the block, with or without a final warning. Unfortunately because I don't have access to the history I couldn't issue the warning or the block. Just a pointer for your future use if you want to post a link to a template it's not necessary to do all the stuff with the nowiki, you can just type {{tl|uw-pinfo}}. Any further problems don't hesitate to give me a shout. Cheers Khukri 11:12, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I will remeber that. Acording to the block log, the blcoking admin is Blnguyen, who also has WP:OVERSIGHT, so I think it would be a fair guess, to hold him resposible for deleting the edits. Mads Angelbo Talk / Contribs 11:18, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

My AIV Report

edit

I reported 71.49.180.197 cause he had a final warning then he had a page reverted by a bot then he vandalized Avian Flu, Thus vandalizing after his final warning. Oysterguitarist 14:31, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

May I just point you to the text at the top of WP:AIV vandalized after a recent last warning. I'm sorry but 2 and a half weeks ago isn't recent, and with it being a anonymous IP there's a high chance the person vandalising isn't the same as before. We must be seen to follow out own rules. Trust me I know vandalism is a pain in the proverbial but if administrators start blocking at will without following our own rules, then there will be all sorts of accusations of impropriety. Cheers Khukri 14:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I did not realize that the final warning was given two weeks ago. I did not read the other warning dates. Sorry for the troubles. Oysterguitarist 14:40, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

My IP has been blocked

edit

I have been blocked from editing pages. The problem, it turns out, is because my IP address has been blocked by you. I don't know what I've done to get myself blocked so if you respond and help get this problem sorted out it would be much appreciated. Free Thinker 21:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

What's the IP? Khukri 21:13, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about my last post

edit

I appologise for any inconveniance my last post RE:My IP has been blocked may have caused. After talking to my dad it turns out various other people also use our broadband connection. I can assure you that I didn't cause the vandalism myself and any changes made by me will be made under my user name. Free Thinker 21:27, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem at all, as you are a logged in user you should be able to avoid the block, as we can trace who you are and put another block in place if needs be. If you look here the block was issued for continually deleting article information, after a final warning. As it was a first time the block was only issued for 31 hours which will run out today around 23:00 (UTC), but for repeated offenses the block lengths do go up quite rapidly. Normally as a logged in user you should be able to edit. I suggest you follow the instructions on the {{autoblock}} page, which should resolve your issues. Any further problems don't hesitate to give me a shout. Khukri 07:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nonsense pages

edit

Is there a warning we give to users who have made nonsense pages. Cause when a user makes a page with nonsense i only put a {{db-nonsense}} on the page but i never give them a warning cause i don't have a warning to give them. Cheers Oysterguitarist 23:11, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The db nonsense template has one warning written shown on the bottom that you can use, {{nonsensepages}}, or if you got to WP:UTM which lists all the warnings, the uw-create series of warnings can also be used. Cheers Khukri 06:31, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the links. I am still trying to read/find all the wikipedia pages that have information i could use fight vandalism, spam, and other things i don't know about (yet). Cheers oysterguitarist ~Talk 13:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help

edit

Recently i was on RC Patrol when i undid a users talk page (User talk:Mochajava97‎) mistaking it for vandalism because it was blanked. When i went to give a warning i found it was blanked by the user who's talk page it was. I appologized on the current version. They have not noticed yet. I was wondering if you could help me by undoing what i did. I just don't want a conflict to start from my mistake. Thank you.

oysterguitarist~Talk 00:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

S'ok you did the right thing left a message. I'll blank it now for you so as to be how the editor wanted their page. They don't have many recent edits so whether they notice or not is another matter. Cheers Khukri 06:32, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for fixing that for me i was going to fix it myself except iwas not sure if i should so i came to you. I am going to try to not make mistakes like that again. Cheers oysterguitarist~Talk 13:05, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
S'ok we all make them, so long as you admit to them, then there is rarely any harm done. All the best Khukri 16:04, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help

edit

You might not be able to answer this but, I am a user at tab wiki [[4]] we are having trouble with spamming vandaism and sockpuppets there is an overwhelming amount of them. That would be fine cause an admin would usually take care of that but there are no admins that have been going on. where could this be reported i was thinking meta wiki but i don't know. If you can't answer this that's ok. Cheers oysterguitarist~Talk 05:05, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unless it's part of the wikimedia foundation, I don't see what they can do. My advice would be to find out who started the wiki, and try and get control of it, or find if there are any stewards or bureaucrats. Sry can't be of more help. Khukri 15:32, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
