Pearl River

Both SCMP and The Standard use "Pearl River" exclusively when referring to the river itself. The curriculum and assessment guide, though shows a preference for Zhujiang over Pearl River, puts (Pearl River) in brackets every time it says Zhujiang, which means the guide isn't claiming prevalence of one over the other. Since the name Pearl River is still in current use and clearly predates Zhujiang, it makes more sense to standardise to Pearl River, at least as far as trans-1997 articles about Hong Kong are concerned. As for mentions of the river in articles dealing with post-1949 Mainland China only, there may be cases for which Zhujiang makes a stronger case though. Deryck C. 10:53, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

I see. I'll keep it that way, then. Kayau (talk · contribs) 12:49, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Manufacturing in Hong Kong, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chinese Revolution (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

hi Kayau, I am delighted to meet you for you are very kind and guiding towards the newbies. I've seen you advice and give tips to users of "how to" ... I am from Chennai, India and mostly active with Malayalam (ml) and Tamil (ta) wikies.. hope to be in touch with :-) Today I uploaded an article in Russian Wiki.. but they were in a hurry to delete the page even when the page contained valuble informations (eng article Koyambedu) :-( If at all there were any forgivable grammatical errors they could have corrected it quite simply.. I must keep in touch with skilled users so that it would be easy to create and upload articles.. :-) --Irumozhi (talk) 11:37, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

HK things

Hi! In which forms do you state you are Chinese?

Also consider that the way an article handles a topic is based on what the reliable sources it uses says. English language media reports about the Luxor disaster report the dead as Hong Kongers and not as Chinese/PRC Chinese. Also I found HKers have different passports which probably contributes to how they are counted: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport WhisperToMe (talk) 15:32, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi! Let me put it this way. Nationality is your connection with a nation-state. HK is not a nation-state. HKers are Chinese citizens. When the reports say the victims are HKers, they're not saying the nationality is HKer, but that their 'country' of origin (e.g. country or region) is HKer. The balloon's passenger list also lists 'Chinese' as the nationality (which RSes have covered - can't find it online, but it was in the print version of the SCMP.)Kayau (talk · contribs) 08:13, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Edition of Lost Cities page

hi Kayau,

First of all, thank you for working for Wikipedia. I appreciate what you are doing.

I have just tried to modify the Lost Cities page. Twice you considered that the links that I provided were not appropriate.

As you probably guessed, I am not very familiar with editing Wikipedia. I am learning here.

Something is a bit strange to me. The reason why I added these links in the first place was because I saw another digital version of the game (namely on IOS) advertized on the page. Surely, if the IOS app of Lost Cities is presented on the page, other implementations should be there.

Personally, I think that the main purpose of games are to be played. That's why links to online implementation make sense for me.

In any case, I am not the judge here. Whether links should be there or not is not for me to decide. But I believe that things should be consistent. If the IOS app (directly pointing to the appstore download page!) is there, then the other implementations should be there.

For your information, I know for a fact that there are only 4 digital versions of the game for the time being (3 online + the IOS app). So you don't have to fear that the list will become a collection of links. There will never be thousands of links towards Lost Cities online versions as the designer (Reiner Knizia) tightly controls the number of digital licences for each of his games.

Again, thank you for what you are doing. I hope my points make sense.

Regards.

PS: I believe the the XBOX Arcade Live paragraph is clearly outdated and should be simplified or deleted.

I'm really sorry if I offended you with the third-level warning. Usually, we assume good faith, but you changed the article three times without explanation. Tip: Next time, you could use an edit summary. It avoids misunderstandings and gives people a good impression.
I've looked at your link and as the company doesn't appear to be notable, IMHO there's no need to put it in the article. I've looked at IOS app and the same applies for it, apparently, so I've removed the section as well. If you'd like to update the XBox section (I think it warrants a mention), feel free to do that yourself with references. ;)
Incidentally, we don't put external links in the main text. External links go to the 'external links' section at the bottom of the page.
Again, sorry if you felt offended and thanks for dropping me a message instead of doing it a fourth time. (If that happened... WP:3RR will apply.) Kayau (talk · contribs) 08:48, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Bubu Jingqing

Hi, thank you for your recent c/e on Bubu Jingqing. Besides expressing my gratitude, I just wonder if you can do it again on its hidden plot section, which briefly explains Wikipedia's rule of writing a plot summary. The reason is that when Scarlet Heart was aired years ago, fans kept writing excessive details of the show instead of general summary, as if trying to turn the page as the show's substitute. The plot summary of Scarlet Heart is now acceptable to Wikipedia's standards. I am trying to prevent the same thing happening again on Bubu Jingqing, which is why I am asking you for help. Thanks.--NeoBatfreak (talk) 19:21, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Sure, I've done that. Kayau (talk · contribs) 00:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

RE Pinethicket

When I logged onto Wikipedia this morning, I was greeted with a message from you. The message was addressed to 'Pinethicket'. It said you had determined I was Pinethicket from my IP address.

I have never used the name 'Pinethicket', and I am the only person who uses my computer.

Several years ago, someone hacked into my email account and used it to send spam to everyone on my contact list. I suppose the hacker could also have used my account to set up a Wikipedia account under the name 'Pinethicket', although I can't imagine what s/he would have to gain by doing so. But I also can't imagine what s/he would have to gain by spamming everyone on my contact list.

If you have any information about Pinethicket other than his/her IP address, I would be grateful if you would share it with me. If I were you, I would also check to be sure that I have the correct IP address. I would also apologise, but of course I am not you. I am not Pinethicket, either.

Ikallicrates (talk) 10:47, 20 December 2013 (UTC) Ikallicrates

@Ikallicrates: Your best bet is to ask an admin for that explanation, as Kayau is not an admin and does not have the ability to block IP addresses. Additionally, they haven't edited in a while. Could you please post link to the talk page of the IP address you edit from, so we can sort this out? Thanks. Epicgenius (talk) 01:16, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Additionally, Pinethicket is a well established user with over 100,000 edits. So this may just be a confusion. Epicgenius (talk) 01:18, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Wow, I just realised this wasn't a signpost message. (My apologies for being this late; I don't get much these days that are not from EdwardsBot as I have been only semi-active.)
Anyway, I do not recall sending messages to Ikallicrates (but, being semi-active these days, I don't recall a lot of what I've done on WP). I don't recall any user called Pinethicket, don't remember Ikallicrates, am not a CheckUser (and thus do not have the ability to check the IP addresses of users), and haven't used the email function on WP in ages (Epicgenius created the page and the deletion log shows no results from User talk:Ikallicrates.) Moreover, Pinethicket is not a known sockpupeteer and has a clean block log, and you haven't done anything suspicious, so even if you and Pinethicket were the same person (which you aren't), it would never have merited a CheckUser operation. I suspect the message may come from the IP address talk page; in that case, could you like to that?
I can give some general information about IP addresses: some Internet Service Providers provide dynamic IP addresses, so you may be using someone's old IP address. In this case, you may have been misidentified as Pinethicket even though you aren't. Kayau (talk · contribs) 12:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
