Rajput edit

I have tried to discuss on the talk page because some muslim users were constantly reverting my edits on rajput page. Then I requested the page be protected and also asked these users to provide evidence for there edits. It has been close to 80 hours and they have chosen to not provide any evidence. So what should be assumed in such a circumstance?

Also James Tod did more then 20 years of research when he was living in Rajasthan in 1800's and then published the momentous "Annals and Antiquities of ancient Rajasthan". This is the only book which covers in great detail the history of rajputs. Before him and since him such a comprehensive book has not been published.

Other books I cited were by Professor Dashratha Sharma took into account quite a few stone writings of various chauhan kings throughout there dominion and also took into account numismatics and the history works written in native Indian languages by the authors of that era. e.g Prithvirajvijay, Hammir MahaKavya etc.

Third book is by an existing professor at Jodhpur university who spent a lot of time researching the Indian works on the life of Hammir and then published has work in English.

These authors are not known to westerners who any way tend to rely more on muslim historians who tend to be very biased towards there kings.

On the rajput discussion page I pointed out how biased muslim historians are even today. MJ Akbar who is a very educated man and a journalist from India published a book recently called "shades of swords" in which he lists the wars of muslim kings but completely glosses over the severe defeats Ghori suffered in Gujarat in 1178 at Kayadara and later at Taraori in Haryana in 1191. And there are many more omissions.

Reason we have so much acrimony because muslims have been fed one version of the history by there historians in which there kings are shown as superhumans and rajput kings were shown as pushovers. Reality is far too different as many historians have pointed out. I presented a complete bibliography which they have managed to delete also. (I am in the process of collecting the publishers etc for these books in the bibliography. I am travelling and am away from my library but I will gather all the info ).

BTW I read your page and Maharajji most likely is also a rajput. Dehradun is a place I often visited and there is a good chance that Maharaji and I have common friends.

-Shivraj Singh

Thanks for help dealing with the blanking vandal. I've asked two Arabic-speaking Wikipedians for help in translating the article from the Arabic Wiki -- perhaps if we had a more balanced article, it wouldn't attract so much vandalism. Zora 23:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Heya, could you reconsider that new messages bar at the top of your page? I like my pavlovian conditioning to that bright orange bar, and would hate to see its use diluted by people using it on their talk page. AfD List of born-again Christian laypeople edit

I would support the AfD if you want to put it there.

As background, I've probably done more work on the article than any other single person. But it was purely remedial: lots of names were there with no evidentiary support, and the long-time editors vigorously resisted removing names just because inclusion didn't meet WP:V . So then I put on disputed, and an admin locked it, and I tried a temporary page to allow the proponents to add evidence. But nothing came of that—most of the people who want names there want it for purely proselytic reasons, nothing about encyclopedic value. And I don't think I'm willing to do the work of wrestling it into usable condition against the reverts of born-again proponents.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure an AfD won't pass consensus. Enough editors who are evangelicals themselves will vote "keep" to meet 25% non-consensus vote. If it goes on AfD, everyone with a partisan interest in the rhetorical value of the page will busily email each other to get votes on the AfD. Dr. Jan van der Lans edit

Dear Jossi, concerning the german Prem Rawat articel: User Andries has put a NPOV-tag on the actually rather neutral, if rather uninformative article, stating that Dr. J. van der Lans' book (is there a non-dutch version of it?) on Maharaji (issued 1982) has not been evaluated in the article (after which apparently Maharaji is a scharlatan, who makes his disciples pay for his luxurious life style). I believe this subject has been treated in the english talk pages before, but it would take extensive search to gather the pieces. Could you possibly fill me in with some facts on the subject, here or by e-mail? Thanks, and please accept my appreciation for your work at Wikipedia!--Rainer P. 07:46, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

An NPOV Tag on the German article? I am not suprised. Andries is on a campaing to utilize WP as a tool for advocating against gurus and spiritual teachers, by his own admission. If he wants to add a reference to van de lans, you have the right to add more content refuting that if you wish. There are hundreds of accolades by academics.
Jan van der Lans, a professor in psychology of religion at the Catholic University of Nijmegen, wrote those statements in a book about followers of gurus commissioned by the Catholic Study Center for Mental Health (KSGV). Note that Van der Lans does not provide ANY sources for his wide ranging assertions about Prem Rawat beyond mentioning some magazine articles about Rawat from the 1970s. This book was commissioned by the KSGV in the Netherlands that produces literature for the clergy and pastors. There is no translation to German or English, because it is a book with too naroow of an appeal. Note that van der Lans has never been translated and that says something about his relevenace. If you feel that the NPOV tag is innapropriate, say so in the Talk page and delete it. Good luck, and welcome to Wikipedia!≈ jossi ≈ 14:30, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

References to Techniques of Knowledge edit

Jossi,

Even though I do not agree the comment I posted in a related article should have been reverted, I'll honor your wishes. My intent was to cross-reference statements related to several teachings, movements and teachers. This is a totally valid reason to do what I did. However, I won't get into the edit wars this set of articles experiences.

Best Wishes, Richard RDF talk 04:53, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Richard. I just removed it from the Elan Vital article as it does not belog there. Elan vital is just a volunteer organization and does not teach the techniques of Knowledge. I left your edits on the other articles, though. -≈ jossi fresco ≈ 00:38, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Jossi. Is there some "organizational" / "mission" / "movement" article that would be analogous to other traditions? From what I’ve read, there is, and I thought I picked the right article for that. Even a volunteer organization is providing necessary seva to support the teachings. After all, this is the theatre of cause-and-effect. :-) My intent is not to criticize the movement or divulge esoteric teachings. I've just seen several parallels to the teachings/movements/masters associated with the Shabd. I would like to have a well-rounded set of cross-referenced articles, if they're available. I'd even be satisfied with as little as a "See also – Shabd" comment. :-) RDF talk 03:36, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Luca Pacioli edit

I made a few edits to Luca Pacioli; you might want to take a look. Also, in the quote, is "as especially" correct, or should "as" be "and"? Finell 09:11, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Looks good, thanks. What is your interest on Pacioli? I am fascinated by Leonardo's life and will be working on creating bio stubs to all people with which he interacted with during his life and that do not have an article in WP as yet. This is what got me to the Luca Pacioli article. Luca was probably one of his few true friends. I will be adding some more content about Pacioli's relationship with Leonardo to the article and I will check the original quote from Divina Proportioni to see if it needs fixing. ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 09:39, 4 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
I see that you continue to make good improvements to Luca Pacioli. Bravo! I was reading Leonardo: The First Scientist by Michael White. It mentioned Leonardo working with mathematician Luca Pacioli. I remembered that many years ago Pacioli was a simple (MS-DOS, I think) accounting program named after the "Father of Accounting." I looked on WP to see if it was the same Pacioli. While there, I made a few edits (I used to be an editor of a scholarly journal and can't kick the habit). I am also interested in the golden ratio. If you are interested in that topic, there is a lively debate at Articles for deletion/Golden Mean, in which I am participating, on whether the article on Golden Mean (which has two meanings, only one of which is synonymous with golden ratio) should be merged with the Golden ratio article. —Steve Finell 01:56, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
The Golden proportion is a subject dear to me... as I am a book designer and typopgrapher (amongst other things....). Check the articles on Category:Book design that I have started. This is a very fascinating subject indeed. I will take a look at the Golden mean article(s). ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 02:01, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I'll look when I get the chance. I am also interested in typography, although I have no formal art or design training. The quality of a lot of typography and the design of printed matter has definitely declined since technology has enabled the untrained to do it themselves. I just checked out of the library Leonardo the Scientist by Zammattio et al. I assume you know the book; it has what is now a VERY familiar illustation on the jacket. By the way, I do like your "signature." Ciao! —Steve Finell 07:02, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Typography has suffered and evolved. We spend more time looking at a computer screen than paper... I would recommend a wonderful book on typography , Richard Handel's "on book Desgin". I have not read Zamattio's book, I am currently reading an excellent biography by Serger Bramly "Leonardo de artist and the man". BTW, my training is in technology, but my hear is in art ... that is why I consider myself a kind of "Renaissance man" :) ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 14:53, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:05, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

{{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

{{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

I know for certain that I have read it in TWO places and it is highly plausible. But I'll be damned if I can remember WHERE I read it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.208.223.1 (talkcontribs)

Well, that is a tough one. If the issue is common knowledge, sometimes you can do without a reference. But if the information is controversial you will need to provide sources. In this case you can try Google. I found this: http://www.paho.org/English/DD/PIN/Number18_article5.htm ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 22:26, 8 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

It wasn't clear to me why you removed images from the Breasts article, since the consensus of opinion on the Talk page so far is that there is value in having a variety of images as opposed to giving the idea that there is some standard or normative size or shape of breast, so I returned it to the previous version. I came across this article while in RC patrol reverting vandalism. Beyond of the obvious poor taste of some of these images (that is my POV, anyway), I have placed three of these photos on WP:IFD for various reasons, including copyvio and dubious "self-made" and "PD" tags. Here is the online link for the public domain Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/s7/schmitt.htm I understand how the error could have been made, and hold no ill will toward you, just as I hope you can look over my ignorance in how to post articles correctly here on Wikipedia. That is because it is from the Dictionary for American Naval Fighting Ships or DANFS for short. (the Lansdowne's page from that site. Yes this article should have been tagged with the {{DANFS}} template and the user should have used the navy.mil site as source to prove the info is public domain and they did not. I have already made mention of this on its talk page and on the Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2005 October 10 where is was listed. In addition I have gone ahead and created a much better page over at USS Lansdowne (DD-486). The IP you submitted at WP:AIV didn't have any non-deleted edits and had an empty talk-page. Did you mean 216.70.13.130? He's already been blocked. Hope that helps. (any responses on my talk please or I might not notice them). --fvw* 20:04, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes it was 216.70.13.130. I may have mis-typed. I saw your block on IRC a few seconds after I posted at WP:AIV. Thanks. ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 20:08, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hypnosis edit

Regarding your comment @ Talk:Hypnosis#Edit_war.3F, things have only gotten worse. Would you mind having another look? Sam Spade 21:28, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

What is the main contention? the intro to the article? the whole article? IMO. Hypnosis needs page protection fast, a cool-off period, and a new editors taking a look. Have you tried an RfC? (Isee that Antaeus is involved in that dispute and these days I am trying to stay as far as possible from this editor, for obvious reasons.) ≈ jossi fresco ≈ 22:17, 13 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Skeleton diag.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Skeleton diag.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --tomf688{talk} 04:34, 15 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

You're a sysop! edit

Hi, Jossifresco~enwiki/archive3, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Please also add your name to WP:LA. Thanks =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:28, 15 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Color Tabs edit

Thank you for your interest. I'm glad to have an artist involved, as my skills are very limited in that area. As you can see from the page a lot of work is needed. First I think a few different color schemes need working out. This is going to be a tough enough item to get people to accept. I think most people think the plain old black and white format should never ever ever be changed, and if we don't have a perfect alternative the proposal willl never pass. I kind of like the second one on the page but it falls apart at the end. I like the LightSteelBlue thru PaleTurquoise3, but after that...

Maybe you have a completely different idea about this? Whatever works. From here on lets put all our discussions on the Tabs talk page. Thanks again - Trevor MacInnis (Talk | Contribs) 17:34, 15 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Test-n button edit

Hi there. Copypaste this into your monobook, and you'll get a t-n button that appears to work. You will still need to manually insert the article name, though.

tabs.appendChild(addlilink('javascript:edit_summary_watch("{{" + "subst:test-n|" + "}} ~" + "~" + "~" + "~\n", "{{" + "test-n}}", true, 1)',"t-n"));

Image:Triple godess.png edit

Is Image:Triple godess.png a blown-up version of image http://z.about.com/d/altreligion/1/0/6/L/2/triplecrescent.jpg , used on site http://altreligion.about.com/library/glossary/symbols/bldefswiccasymbols.htm ? I took the About.com "triplecrescent.jpg" image, blew it up from 100x100 pixels to 245x245 pixels in Photoshop, and it looked absolutely identical to "Triple godess.png" to me. Incorporating this into the compendious Wikipedia image "Religious symbols.png" is probably OK, but using it in standalone form for the Wikipedia image "Triple godess.png" is most definitely not OK, unless you have permission from About.com. Anyway, "Triple godess.png" is misspelled, and the symbol Image:Triple-Goddess-Waxing-Full-Waning-Symbol.png seems to be more widely used... AnonMoos 17:16, 18 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I had that image for a while on my library of symbols, not from About.com. Maybe it would be better to delete it and replace the image with the full waning sysmbol. ≈ jossi fresco ≈ t@ 19:08, 18 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
