Fair use rationale for Image:GeneCox.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GeneCox.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Notability of Gene Cox

edit

A tag has been placed on Gene Cox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Finngall talk 16:09, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Duplicate images uploaded

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CoachGeneCox.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:GeneCox.jpg. The copy called Image:GeneCox.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 16:15, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Gene Cox

edit

I came across your article contribution before it was deleted. Its deletion was premature, in my opinion, and I have recreated the article in stub format for you to flesh out. Some of the primary problems with the article as you wrote it (which was why it probably got deleted) include:

  • Don't write articles in the first person; this is an encyclopedia, not a personal web page
  • Don't sign your article contributions or include an "about the author" section.
  • Include references for all claims of notability.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page and I'd be happy to help point you in the right direction. Neil916 (Talk) 16:32, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

To elaborate on the above:
Remember, this is an encyclopedia, and as such any information herein should be verifiable from references to reliable sources, and none were provided there. Also, an encyclopedia needs to maintain a neutral point of view at all times, and what was written there is anything but. Finally, blatant advertising like what you tacked on at the end is absolutely prohibited under any circumstances.
I wasn't actually questioning whether Gene Cox merits an article here, but the article as written was completely unsalvageable. The recreated article is a far better starting point.
I've provided helpful links here and in the welcome message above. Your contributions are welcome, but I hope that you will read up on Wikipedia's policies and guidelines before plunging in further. If you have any other questions or concerns, let me know. --Finngall talk 16:39, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Notification of automated file description generation

Your upload of File:CoachGeneCox.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution.
