I dunno... I'm not personally involved in the article, but from what I saw in the history, it's just getting a bit out of hand. If you completely disagree, request unprotection at RFPP. Jmlk17 03:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Not sure what you want me to say to that... articles rarely look like that, and when they do, they get protected. Jmlk17 03:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but that article, its not smart, yes it ends vandalism but it adds a whole lot of complexity to add a little bit of information to a very current event that will change dramaticly in many ways faster then the administration of wikipedia will be able to keep up.--Jakezing (talk) 03:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Dynamic is fine, when it accomplishes something, but when it is just reverts and arguments, it's better to allow discussions on the talk page to take place. Jmlk17 03:42, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
My edit war was part of a misunderstanding of the others intentions.--Jakezing (talk) 03:46, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Understandable, but let's give the protection a bit more time, and the discussion(s) on the talk page to materialize, etc. Jmlk17 03:47, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

My Report to WP:AIV

Just so you know, the reason I reported 155.144.251.120 was because I wasn't sure how recent is recent. I'm not trying to be an idiot or something. Just wanted to make sure you knew what I was doing. (so, how recent is recent? 24 hours? 48 hours? Just courious so that doesn't happen again.) Thanks. Thingg 04:18, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh, no worries! I am personally a bit hesitant to block someone who hasn't been warned in the past 24-48 hours. I think the IP you reported hadn't had one since the 14th. :) Jmlk17 04:20, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Revert on Emancipation Proclamation

Just wanted to let you know that I reinserted the "already" because it adds an important time context. I agree with you that it is redundant to those of us who already understand the timeline and nuances, but not necessarily to the average reader in the audience. I considered it for awhile before reverting it. The concern I had is that if "already" was omitted then some folks would incorrectly assume that slaves would not be automatically emancipated in territory coming under U.S. control in the future. Red Harvest (talk) 05:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate the heads up, as well as the clarification. Thank you. :) Jmlk17 05:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Center for Disease Control Boys deleted

--Andreafed (talk) 19:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)I can't believe you deleted The Center for Disease Control Boys. According to Wikipedia guideline #6, if a band contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable, it's worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. The Center for Disease Control Boys was Chris Cornell's first band before Soundgarden. It also included George Hackett who went on to become Andrea Hackett who went on to found the Las Vegas Dancers Alliance [1], the first stripper union in Las Vegas. Ms Hackett's exploits were documented in Marc Cooper's[2] most recent book, The Last Honest Place in America and is featured prominently in an upcoming memoir due out this year. Clearly the Center for Disease Control Boys have earned their place on Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreafed (talkcontribs) 16:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure I did... the band never released an album, never achieved notability, and fails WP:BAND. Jmlk17 02:03, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Free encyclopedia does not mean any article at any time about any topic. Jmlk17 02:04, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I think taht you didn't read this part :

"AGENTSS recorded 2 singles. The first in 1981 was an independent production with the songs "Agentes" and "Angra". The second one in 1983 was released by the W.E A. record company with the songs "Professor Digital" and "Cidade Industrial" on it. It was produced by Pena Schmidt (re-mastered in the year 2000 on CD format in a compilation of the 80's bands)."

W.E.A now is W.M.G (Warner Music Group). Warner Music, I don't think that any band can record a sinlge with Warner Music...

Domina Jalbert

Is there a way to get copy of the work I started on Domina Jalbert that you deleted? I had placed significant notes in the discussion page on notability after placing a hang on tag. You deleted very fast. Did you read the discussion page on the notability facts? I thought hang on tag would give some time. sockpuppets editing Muhammad

I have a suspicion that many of these vandalism-only accounts used to delete pictures from Muhammad are sockpuppets. Frotz (talk) 06:47, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps, but honestly, there are dozens of sites out there that are encouraging people to deelete the images. So while a few may be socks, I'm willing to bet that the majority are just sleeper single-purpose accounts. Jmlk17 06:52, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Zecco.com

Jmlk17,

Wow, that was fast. I'm dismayed that you deleted the page. What is it you have against Zecco? For some reason the citations for Bullpoo, Cake Financial, and Prosper_Marketplace are okay, but an article about zecco is automatically blatent advertising? Please reconsider for the following three reasons.

Let's start with the Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion. The third paragraph says:

Deletion is not required if a page meets these criteria. Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved, reduced to a stub, merged or redirected elsewhere or be handled with some other action short of deletion. If this is possible, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets and consider notifying the page's creator.

Do you think 4 hours might be too soon after a page's creation to delete it? I don't have too much free time and I create articles over several edits and it's a little harder to do so when the article gets deleted.

What makes it blatent advertising? If you don't know it by now, I am an advertising executive and although I do not have a conflict of interest in any editorial I write about Zecco, I do have an intimate relationship with the topic and company. I also know a little bit about advertising and if that article was advertising it was the worst I've ever seen. First off, it lacked all the things you need in advertising: attention, interest, desire, conviction, and action. There is no "call to action", no external links, no hyperbole, no unsupported factual assertions. As advertising it sucks. I would like to refer to the policy atWikipedia:Spam

Wikispam articles are usually noted for sales-oriented language and external links to a commercial website. However, a differentiation should be made between spam articles and legitimate articles about commercial entities. ... When an article on an otherwise encyclopedic topic has the tone of an advertisement, the article can often be salvaged by rewriting it in a neutral point of view. Elements of articles about products or services with brand names can also be combined under a common topic or category to facilitate unbiased and collaborative information by including information about the competition and about different alternatives.

The absence of external links and shamelessly promotional language certainly argues against a prima facia designation as spam. The writing may suck, but just becasue it lacks the stilted style of an encyclopedia citation, it isn't necessarily spam.

Lastly, I think maybe your itchy trigger finger on the delete button might have something to do with my perceived conflict of interest in the subject which I mentioned earlier. If you look at the text of what I wrote initially, there is little that is disputable or susceptible to spin. And if there were anything at all controversial, it is easily amended by improvements from another editor with a different point of view. I request that you treat my article creations as being done in good faith until you have reason to believe otherwise.

Finally, I'd like to point out the Wikipedia Deletion Policy:

Discussion

Disputes over page content are not dealt with by deleting the page. Likewise, disagreement over a policy or guideline is not dealt with by deleting it. Similarly, issues with an inappropriate user page can often be resolved through discussion with the user.

The content issues should be discussed at the relevant talk page, and other methods of dispute resolution should be used first, such as listing on Wikipedia:Requests for comments for further input. Deletion discussions that are really unresolved content disputes may be closed by an administrator, and referred to the talk page or other appropriate forum.

I respectfully request that the opportunity to write a page on Zecco.com be not only afforded me but that opportunity defended against summary deletion. If you don't like the content or style of the article, you have all the tools in the world to move it toward your liking. Thank you.

Capitilization in French

Capitilization rules in French and English are quite different [3]. Specifically for titles or proper nouns, the French language does not generally capitalize anything but the first word of the proper noun [4]. Colorado State University

Jmlk17,

I don't understand why my additions to the Colorado State University page have been deleted, not partially edited or altered, but removed wholesale. I hope we can discuss this.Spilly816 (talk) 06:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Of course. I noticed that in the course of your edits, numerous sections and the entire sources and footnotes section were removed. Jmlk17 06:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Ah I understand, I'm glad you brought the source problem up. During the edit following one I'm referring you to below, on student life, the entire source page disapeared on me, and I could not figured out why or what I had done to cause that to happen. It was not intentional, and I hope as a more experienced editor you can help me restore the source page. In fact, there were fewer than 5 sources for the entire page before I began and there were nearly 100 citations from my own additions. In regards to deleting sections, I did not delete any information that was previous there (except for updating stats like student population to 2007 figures), but rather consolidated or expanded small sections underneath new headings. (for example, "international programs used to be its own section. I added more information and made it a subsection under the heading "academic programs"). I hope that explains some things and that we can consider reverting back to an older version before the accidental erasure or the sources, and go from there.

Here is the version immediately prior to accidental source erasing: This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Spilly816 (Talk | contribs) at 20:52, 19 February 2008. It may differ significantly from the current revision Spilly816 (talk) 19:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Oh of course. I'll be more than happy to work with you on it. :) Jmlk17 20:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Great. Shall we begin by reverting to the version previous to the sources deletion, and ensuring that all are in agreement with the citations and any changes in the structure of the page that had been made? (eg consolidating/moving sections that had limited info, and updating facts etc?)Spilly816 (talk) 19:29, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good. :) Jmlk17 22:06, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Done. I reverted to this edit. It's not bad at all... there were only 2 more editors beyond this one. Jmlk17 22:12, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I've put up some new information and sections under Student Life. The new sections were re-entered as headers from info previously posted under bolded dividers, for example residence life. I also added/updated information and citations. Let me know of any issues that arise. I'll be working on athletics over the next couple days. I appreciate your assistance and feedback with the previous and future revisions.Spilly816 (talk) 02:55, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the policy is for fi.wikipedia. Could you elaborate? Jmlk17 07:57, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

I just mean that persons who are listed in fi.wikipedia are not necessarily important enough on the en.wikipedia? Jmlk17,

Kind of new to this whole thing so please bare with me. I did a bit of research and it looks like the page I created was banned due to the notability guidelines, which is fine. I'm willing to do whatever is needed to appease you and Wikipedia. If it's not too much trouble, could you point to what you'd like me to work on and how to go about fixing it? Thank you for your time.

-Deadairfan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deadairfan (talkcontribs) 16:22, February 22, 2008

Of course... please check out our web notability guidelines for a bit more information. Jmlk17 00:04, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Jmlk17,

Hey, thank you for the response. Still feeling this whole thing out. So I saw that you did the quick delete thingy because of "A7", which wikipedia lists as:

An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.

So the issue wasn't notability...it was simply an issue of web content? Basically, is there a way I can submit what I had before in a manner which would be okay with Wikipedia? I'm not trying to promote the podcast at all and I don't have to link it in any way if you wish. If the issue is "significance", mainly meaning "why is it significant enough to mention on Wikipedia", well, what kind of milemarkers would satisfy wikipedia? A petition with a certain amount of signatures? One of the guys I mentioned had been cast on a reality television show...would that make a difference?

Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deadairfan (talkcontribs) 00:56, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually is was notability. Jmlk17 05:14, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Please. Dog-Day Cicada.

It seemed important to people on Long Island & NYC. The band I wrote about is working on a full album, so isn't just some basement band. The stuff that seemed fake was probably just filler, although some things there that seemed fake are true. Sorry for not citing anything. It was a work in progress and in fairness I did say I'd fix it, I was tired and didn't complete it. Plus it was my first one. I'd really appreciate if you restored it.

Thank you, --Agrande (talk) 18:33, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

I didn't see anything in there that looked fake, but I deleted it for a lack of notability. Jmlk17 19:48, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Semi-Protection

I noticed that a few days ago, you added semi-protection here to the article Yawn. The culprit 68.126.179.154 prompted your action. Whenever I see vandalism, I usually put a {{subst:uw-v1}} (or v2 or v3) on the culprit's Talk page, right after doing the Rollback. If the vandalism is unmistakably blatant, then I go straight to {{subst:uw-bv}} instead (and I took the liberty of adding a bv warning to 68.126.179.154 because I saw that you had not). Just curious if maybe I should be doing something different, since I'm a semi-newbie. My guess is semi-protection is only available to admins. Please advise. Thanks. If this is not the right place to make the request, please let me know. Thanks! UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:11, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure... I can restore it to a sandbox for the time being if you like. Jmlk17 21:27, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it makes sense to put it back into the article namespace if possible; the other editor is pretty hacked off. Thanks again. UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

For what it's worth, I don't really think this username is disruptive. The term "hack" has become so popularized -- and is used for entirely harmless computer things, too -- that I don't think there's any malice inherent in this name. - Revolving Bugbear 22:15, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Removing talk page contributions

Hi, I noticed you've been deleting some comments on the Muhammad talk page while people making the same point over and over and over again is as annoying to you as it is to us all, in my opinion it might be worth leaving the post up for a couple of days (with replies) to enable the original poster to read other people's comments. Just a thought. RaseaC (talk) 22:14, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree... to a point. But what we end up with is numerous different threads, all beginning with the exact same blurb: a demand to remove the images, followed by people explaining again and again why we aren't going to do that. The talk pages are already cluttered, and just adding to them with the exact same junk doesn't help. Jmlk17 23:56, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I totally agree with you, people are obviously not reading previous discussions or the FAQ and to an extent it seems stupid to reply to every post but at the same time I think that a couple of days gives someone enough of a chance to see any replies. That said, there are so many people asking the same thing and getting the same answer chances are they'll get their question answered by someone else's post!! RaseaC (talk) 00:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. Unfortunately, far too many people are seeing that damn petition, and coming here to just create an account/use and IP just for a one time only demand on the talk page(s), or remove the images themselves for a short time. Just sort of sucks eh? I'm all for removing the threads on the talk pages and then leaving a note on the user's talk page, but I realize that that is just my own personal approach! :) Jmlk17 00:10, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
My point is that they should get a reply, I didn't realise you were leaving talk page notes, that's a much better idea than replying on the article talk page. At the end of the day I think 99.9% of posters are, like you said, just here to request a delete and then forget Wikipedia exists, but for the .1% it's nice to show we (or someone else) cares! It's not a major thing either way, if someone makes a valid, non-repeated point then obviously it's worth keeping but otherwise there's valid reasons for keeping and deleting. Talk:Muhammad/images

Thanks for the cooldown note. I'm not going to continue that discussion. Too pointless as User:rtwise seems to want to completely ignore the existace of WP policy, and I've said all I really can while staying on the good side of WP:CIVIL (and only just). It's kinda a redundant section as well - possibly a candidate for a premature archive?-MasonicDevice (talk) 01:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Possibly so. Good choice on leaving the discussion. I've been reading the conversation, and while you have great points and evidence etc., your opponent there just seems to not want to accept what you are saying. Oh well. Archives tomorrow perhaps. :) Jmlk17 02:01, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Eh... so I relapsed a bit. It's like wikicrack. But now I'm really on the wagon, except for keeping his comments seperate from mine, which he seems to have been loathe to do. Hard to have much of a discussion with him when he wants to dismiss WP:NPOV as too convoluted to be useful and a relic 1920s thinking. Whatever. -MasonicDevice (talk) 23:26, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't bother with that one. Best I can tell: he's read a bit of anthropology and thinks that the only way to discuss a culture or member of a culture is in a way that is meaningful to that culture. Of course, he completely ignores the fact that the point of WP is almost exactly the opposite. The project is an observer of culture, and we need to write it as neutral observers in a manner that eases cross cultural comparsison.-MasonicDevice (talk) 21:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Tom Bates

It's not vandalism as such. It is an IP who for over two weeks has been changing the wording of Tom Bates even though FOUR editors have patiently explained matters. Please look at Talk:Tom Bates. There is a limit to how much one can keep on explaining and reverting. User:Calbear22 has been holding the fort on his own, but has been requesting assistance in the form of other opinions. Those opinions have been given, but the IP still won't listen. A page with a two week edit war which has dragged in three additional editors really does require protection!! I think there's a limit to how many editors can explain the situation, and a limit to the patience of any reasonable editor when faced with two weeks of reverts. A two week semi-protection would allow the IP to cool off, allow Calbear22 to rest up and constructively build the article, and free up the other editors to do more productive work. :-) SilkTork *What's YOUR point? 23:27, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Full protection of List of songs in Rock Band

I'm curious why you chose to do this. We have consensus of at least five regular editors supporting the page in its current form, against two opposed. Protection is a radical and unnecessary step (it's not like this page has been the subject of constant edit wars or anything) and I ask that you return the page to semi-protection as it was. Furthermore, since this is a page that needs frequent changing (new content needs to be added each Tuesday and Friday as content is released and then the next week's content is announced) protection will cause the page to quickly get out of date. If you'd like to reply on my talk page or at Talk:List of songs in Rock Band, either is fine with me. Oren0 (talk) 01:08, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply at my page. The issues really seem to be dragged out by one user who refuses to explain his reasoning beyond repeating the same arguments again and again. The majority of the page's editors are in agreement that the disputed section should stay. I've invited him to open the matter up for further comment using RfC but he has so far failed to do so. I'm slightly bothered that the actions of one editor for a dispute that isn't even that big a deal would lock down the entire page. We can work it out without protection. Oren0 (talk) 04:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

user::Fistchix

I strongly disagree with this block. The user, a newcomer, has removed the tag once but then understood this and used the hangon template and gave a justification on the talk page. The page has been tagged G3 with no reasons (the book exists), so I removed the tag but someone reverted me, I couldn't see who. None of these warnings were founded. Please reconsider. Cenarium (talk) 01:31, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I blocked due to his username. Jmlk17 01:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought it was due to vandalism, in the case of username violation, I was used to the template starting with "This account with this username..." and the violation was not flagrant to me. Though I still think that all of this was a bit rough. Cenarium (talk) 01:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
No need to apologize my friend... I'm always more than willing to listen to another's opinion and am always open to suggestions. Do you have any? :) Jmlk17 01:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Not really, though I think that A3 didn't apply for this article and I would have clean it, propose it for deletion, or bring it to afd if necessary. But I wouldn't oppose a speedy, per snow. This kind of situations happen frequently, I see. Cenarium (talk) 03:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

your proposed deletion of Algerian Ice Hockey articles

I received your message about deleting the articles, I am actually a member of the Algerian ice hockey federation, therefore all details are correct. The website www.hockeyalgeria.com IS the official website of the Algerian ice hockey federation. What other means do you need to verify these facts?

The algerian ice hockey federation is currently applying to the IIHF, pending a few legal documents, with Karim Kerbouche listed as president and Yannick Hamri listed as general secretary.

Please inform me of which detail you have a problem with and I'll provide evidence.

Thank You

Hockeyalgeria (talk) 00:34, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, the website itself lists no games played, none scheduled, and no statistics. All it has is information on a league that is in the process of formation, and not much else. How can a group be notable when it isn't even in the process of running nor competing? Jmlk17 00:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

The algerian ice hockey federation was formed in 2006, from that date up until present we have been working on government backing, IIHF backing and recruiting players.

We now have government backing, IIHF backing (although some legal documents are required before we become members) and we have players. We will compete in the arab cup of ice hockey in june, along with morocco who are in the same position as us, and UAE and Kuwait who are members of the IIHF.

Djilali Hamri is notable due to the fact he is an algerian born ice hockey player who played over 15 seasons in the top french league, he is like a brian leetch or paul coffee of algerian ice hockey.

Yannick Hamri, who is Djilali's son, has played the last 4 seasons in french division 1, but above that he has put alot of time and energy into making algerian hockey succeed, and deffinately deserves to be mentioned as part of algerian ice hockey.

I know in professional hockey these guys are not big names but in algerian hockey they are. These wiki articles are essential for us to get noticed in the hockey world, us and morocco are the 2 newest hockey nations and most people still dont know.

Thanks

Deletion of my Page on WIKIPEDIA

Who gave you authority to delete my page?

Can you give me a valid reason why you chose to delete my page Alan King - Massurreal Artist without the courtesy of contacting me.

My images are used throughout Wikipedia, I have work in several galleries worldwide, my work is studied at several Universities, including Oxford University and the Museum of Computer Art in New York, I am also referred to and linked to by many Surreal and Massurreal sites on WIKI.

I have found that WIKI is boycotted more and more due to the unprofessional nature of its administration, which seems to continually allow anyone to edit and delete at will.

your "Pipetting Valley" deletion

Hi Jmlk17

I have realized that you have deleted the entry "Pipetting Valley" with the comment that it would not be available anywhere else in Google. Actually, it gives 102 hits in Google, 243 in Yahoo. It is a relatively new expression - that's correct, but it discribes an area in Switzerland that hosts the majority of companies in the field of liquid handling automation - which is well understood by people working in laboratories. These companies are also organized in various clusters and industrial organisations.

Please reconsider your deletion and aktivate the articel again.
