Log of Additions and Removals to Virgin TV

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Log of Additions and Removals to Virgin TV, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Invitation

Hello Jasmeet 181. Thank you for the invitation to join Wikipedia:WikiProject British TV channels. I have been creating a few British TV channel articles of late, but I think I have stopped (for now)! My original intention was just to create articles for channels available on Freesat, but once I had done that, I realised there was just one channel left to be done on Virgin Media (Best Direct), so I created that article.

As it stands now, all channels available on Freeview, Freesat, and Virgin Media now have articles on them. The only current UK channel articles left to create are ones that are solely available on Sky Digital and/or Eurobird 1. For some of these channels, its extremely difficult to find information on them to create an article (some of them dont even have websites!), so for now I think im done with British TV channels!

I do have one question though: In the List of channels on Freesat article, the Best Direct channel is listed in the Defunct Freesat channels section, along with TWC Fight, Overseas Property TV, and Bubble Hits. While Best Direct is no longer available on Freesat, the channel is not 'defunct' in that it still broadcasts on Sky Digital and Virgin TV (unlike TWC Fight, Overseas Property TV and Bubble Hits which have all ceased broadcasting completely). With this in mind, should the section be renamed (for instance Channels formerly on Freesat)? Or should Best Direct be moved to a separate section all together? Your views would be appreciated. Hi, Despite the article on digitalspy, Arsenal TV continues to broadcast on 435 and is still encrypted (visible to me with as a former Setanta subscriber but not my friend on full Sky package). List of Virgin Media Channels

Hi, Just wondering why you have reverted things back to how User:Andrewcrawford did. As I mentioned to him, I am a Virgin Media customer, on the L package for TV (which if you took the courtesy to check my user page you will have been aware of this). Those adjustments I made are what comes up on my package. Also, a member of my family works for Virgin Media (as a technician doing the installations for new customers along with other duties) and he also agree with the adjustments I made. The BBC HD Channel (EPG 108) doesn't appear on the L package, it will only be available to XL customers. Hallmark +1 is now on the L package and no longer on the XL. Also 2 of the ESPN channels are available to ALL Virgin Media customers as part of a free trial throughout August 2009. Therefore I'm reverting things back to how I had them. Regards, (Pr3st0n (talk) 23:32, 28 August 2009 (UTC))

Like I said, a member of my family (brother-in-law if you wish to know) works for Virgin Media. He confirmed to me that BBC HD and C4 HD will only be apart of the XL package. Although, they will be giving a 1 month free trial (similar to that which ESPN did) to all Virgin Media customers. Somehow I doubt that my brother-in-law would lie about such information, considering he works for the company in question. (Pr3st0n (talk) 23:39, 28 August 2009 (UTC))
I found a press office article from Virgin Media website (dated 29 July 2009 - exactly 1 month before I made the original adjustments about the HD channels) which states that all those HD channels mentioned (BBC HD, 4HD, and Living HD) are on the XL package, which is what I previous mentioned weeks ago when I made the adjustments originally, only to be told I was incorrect. Here's the link to check for yourselves [1] A quote from that article "4HD will be available to all of Virgin Media’s TV customers at no extra cost, alongside the BBC HD channel. Virgin Media will make its full range of HD channels available at no extra cost to its XL TV customers." Also ESPN HD is free to XL customers, but M and L customers can subscribe to ESPN HD for £8 per month. (Pr3st0n (talk) 11:29, 11 September 2009 (UTC))
You didn't find it, I gave it as evidence against your claims (quoting the same passage) on Talk:List of channels on Virgin TV#Correction to List of Virgin Media Channels and your reading it wrong. You deleted my comments from you talk page (which is why I'm not posting there).[2]. You've ignored references to official lists.[3][4] Your 'spelling mistake' was adding completely new stuff.[5] Your brother-in-law (if there is one) is not the liar, you are. At some point the villagers won't listen to the boy who cried wolf, I suggest that you learn the moral quickly. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 14:52, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry to say that you are now being the one who is rude and vulgar in your libellous/slanderous remarks against my personal nature. To attack someone with the words "LIAR" and to basically state that I may not have a brother-in-law are utterly outragous and break all rules set out by Wikipedia:AGF, Wikipedia:NPA, and WP:INDISCRIMINATE Perhaps you wish to take time to read Wikipedia:Civility and then you may realise that the majority of your wording has breached all of the points made in the Civility section. (Pr3st0n (talk) 11:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC))
I suggest you review it and find that you have broke them too, your the one being agrassive and not wanting to admit when you are wrong and right if you like this could go to admins and let hem decide the outcome.--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 14:51, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I don't see how WP:INDISCRIMINATE is relevant. Accusations about personal behaviour that lack evidence? I'm afraid that there is plenty of evidence to support my view that you have completely ignored fact and removed a section from your talk page. I had clearly assumed good faith until that point. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 16:20, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

User Talk Pages

In response to your questions on Talk:List of channels on Virgin TV, some of those articles which you highlighted in your comment where originally archived, but then brought back into open live debate following other conversations between myself and other users. The way I personally operate my talk pages is as follows... Open debate and/or question is posted. If the discussion then comes to a conclusion, I add the "Resolved" icon to the top of the topic thread. After 3 weeks, the thread then gets archived. If that thread then comes back into live debate, I move it back from archive to open discussion. I like to maintain a slim-line talk page, and avoid cluttering it. This is how a well organised person like myself works. Afterall we're all human, and operate in unique ways. I have in no way criticised how you operate your talk page. You page is your own, and how you operate it is entirely your personal choice. (Pr3st0n (talk) 11:34, 13 September 2009 (UTC))

I did not question your archiving process or right to archive (I do it myself), I questioned your complete deletion of a section which you archived today (13/09/09) [6] after deleting it on 30/08/09.[7] 3 weeks did not pass between the date of the comment (28/08/09) and the date that you claim to have archived it (30/08/09) or even today. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 16:20, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I have been asked by Pr3st0n to clarify about how user talk pages should be arhived. Barring a few exceptions, Wikipedia guidelines specifically allow users to remove content from their talk page without a reason, at any time - archiving is encouraged, but is very much optional. Please see WP:BLANKING and WP:DRRC. It is better to let the matter rest and assume that when users remove comments, they have acknowledged them. Camaron · Christopher · talk 17:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
That's largely missing the point. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 17:51, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I don't think so, Wikipedia guidelines are quite clear on the matter - it is a pointless issue to pursue. I have to say calling an editor a liar is hardly a productive way to resolve matters either. Camaron · Christopher · talk 17:57, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
It quite clearly is missing the point since I am not the one who raised an issue with Pr3st0n's archiving of content (you would need to contact Andrewcrawford), rather their claims of doing something completely different to what they actually did. As it turns out Pr3st0n did then actually archive the section after reading my message. Productive are not, there are some clear examples of deceit that I have cited, I did not take the issue any further or plan to especially since the discussion was supposed to be over. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 18:40, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
No, but you did raise issue with the way Pr3st0n archived content such as above, and that is why I clarified that guidelines state that users can delete content from their talk pages without explanation. Camaron · Christopher · talk 18:48, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
When a the user continues to post in the same section of my talk page, ignores their own set of guidelines/consistency and considers the topic still open for discussion, it does raise questions of why the user has then deleted and seemingly ignored a referenced explanation. There may be nothing in the rules to say that an explanation has to be given but likewise nothing to say that one can't be given or the actions can not be queried. While I do take on board what you have said, the aforementioned query did result in the user taking some form of action (archiving it). - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 19:11, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Jasmeet 181. There is a discussion regarding an edit made by you at the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. The discussion can be found here, and you are welcome to present your views there. ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 03:15, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Peaceful Contact

Jasmeet, I'm suggesting that we keep all conversations purely to the discussion and resolution of the HD Channel dispute, and avoid any future misinterpreted bickering. As you pointed out, an IPS user made the adjustments in your original points in the debate. And as the changes where made in something that you wrote, I assumed that you had re-worded it, hence why I had no reason to check the history of who made the change. I have since checked this, and noticed its an IP user. You will have noticed, hopefully, that I posted a comment on another page at exactly the same time, not to mention a comment I posted in reply to your change just a mere few seconds after the change took place, which should show that I was still logged into my wiki account. All I can think is that someone was also reading the AN/I thread and took it upon themselves to play a sly trick in an attempt to get both you and I to argue once again. Well now that I've settled the fact I was online at the time of the IP change, I will not allow that IP user to pursue that tactical move. So with your agreement, I would say that from this moment onwards, we keep all contact purely to the dispute resolution at hand. Avoid any unwanted bickering, and keep things peaceful. Agreed? (Pr3st0n (talk) 04:51, 16 September 2009 (UTC))

FOrmer channels

For the channels old than 2 years best not have a slot for say telewest and ntl and go further back whatever was there then, as virgin media certainly was not there back 2001--Andrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 14:13, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

1 Hour Timeshift on UPC channels.

I think that what 82.141.225.169 was trying to do/say was that (e.g.) "1 Hour Timeshift of E4" on E4+1 is not necessary and makes the article looks messy. "1 hour timeshift" is sufficient information. --Kei_Jo (talk) 22:01, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

I only changed "1 hour timeshift" to "1 Hour Timeshift" on the UPC Channel page, I did **NOT** change it on on Sky EPG page, I was only following suit from the Sky EPG. Also, regarding my username, I use Kei_Jo for Facebook, Twitter, my own site, MySpace, etc so I wanted to use it here as its my nickname. There is **NO** username as Kei_Jo or Kei Jo (From Kei_Jo/Kei Jo user page: "Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact name") --Kei_Jo (talk) 15:02, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Also, the username Kei_Jo is invalid, as the underscore would actually be a space. --Kei_Jo (talk) 16:01, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

"The BBC is a broadcaster not an service provider/operator." -- fine. "They have reduced the bitrate of BBC HD on Astra 2D themselves, there has never been a reduction in resolution or re-transmition." -- AFAIK, they switched to 1440pix horizontally, search the Web. "The BBC does not cite limitations of existing HD video cameras, different shooting style and improved codec as reasons to reduce the bit rate, they say that it is because of the introduction of new transmission encoders." -- did you read the tech blog of a BBC major tech? Replying here because the user was blocked. UTV from UTV Media is the licensed ITV service for Northern Ireland, not ITV1 from ITV plc. See ITV#Licence details for further details. I indeed receive UTV as channel 103; however ITV1HD is received as channel 178. Perhaps its worth noting this. Please discuss. Gonads3 (talk) 17:23, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
Research concludes that my system was misconfigured when installed. It seems the installation process assesses the locale of the device and then applies the appropriate configuration. Since performing a hard reset channel 178 (SKY), was no longer listed and unavailable. I've managed to add this channel via the 'Add Channel' option as detailed here. I may reword this instruction and add to discussion on article ITV1 HD. Gonads3 (talk) 17:49, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Philippine Cable Channels Remove Agian and Agian Part 3

Hello Jasmeet 181, after Active Banana another user Wikipedical is currently removing Philippines Cable and DTH Channels Article like SkyCable, Global Destiny Cable, Cablelink, Dream Satellite TV, G Sat, Cable Star Iloilo, Royal Cable, Cignal Digital TV, Telmarc Cable, Kalibo Cable, GV Broadcasting Systems, Inc., Parasat Cable TV and SPC-New World Cable TV among others due to unvalid reason taken from NOTDIR which is not mention about TV channels itself. Closure of Galaxy network - rebrand into Capital FM

I've noticed that you've noted that Galaxy Yorkshire will be rebranded as Capital FM on EPG number 0112, although Capital FM already broadcasts on 0109. When Global Radio closes the stations, Capital FM (the London one at the moment) will be nationalised through out the UK, with approx 80% of its content being networked from the London station. Surely this means the channel on the EPG will disappear as they won't have exactly the same stations on channels 0109 and 0112. RM-Taylor (talk) 11:41, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I translated this article to czech Wikipedia, and someone moved the text to Sky Atlantic HD, so I moved it there, too. But now you moved this article back, so I don´t know - will be the name of the article Sky Atlantic or Sky Atlantic HD? I want to know this because of moving it back or let it be under the name Sky Atlantic HD P.S.: I´m sorry for my grammar mistakes on your talk page, but i understand much more better compared to talking :D--Tvskyfreak (talk) 15:07, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Editing list of HD channels in the Republic of Ireland

Hi i removed your edit because ITV2 hd isnt available in the roi because of broadcasting rights. Thanking you, KeithL2156 —Preceding unsigned comment added by KeithL2156 (talkcontribs) 16:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

hi i keep putting in my signature on the page because it IS a feature on wikipedia so am i not obliged to using that no >:( Keith Lowe (talk) 19:39, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Yes, it is a feature, but that doesn't mean that it should be used everywhere. For example content removal is also a feature, but you don't want to use that on an article right? :). As of such signatures are only used on talk or article talk pages such as this one. On other pages, it should not be used - in those cases the page history will track who made a certain edit. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 19:42, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Editing List of digital terrestrial television channels (UK)

Please can you place my valid edits back on this article, LCN 98 ADULT TMTV was only reduced to placeholder status yesterday as it was broadcasting a black signal level between 3am till 9am and the off air graphic disappeared during this time. So to sum up it works out because of this that ADULT TMTV was removed yesterday from DTT as yesterday is the date it had its stream and off air graphic removed which makes my edits valid. This needs to be re-added to this page on the list of channels removed from DTT. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruth-2013 (talkcontribs) 08:50, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Ruth-2013

Who made you the boss of this article, my edits have been redone and is good information as it demonstrates the declining quality of freeview radio stations as some have had the bit rate cut when smash hits moved mux. Please dont undo my valid edits! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruth-2013 (talkcontribs) 21:58, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

It was not just smash hits though some more of the radio stations who are owned by the same people had a drop in bit rate as well, so I maintain my edits are valid. Also I did intend to add tv bit rates tomorrow. If as you claim my edit is excessive information then I say putting on the article a channel is in 16.9 is also excessive if you want to get technical about this people can tell when they listen to a radio station its in mono but in that case they can also tell what there watching and if its in 16.9 now can they not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ruth-2013 (talkcontribs) 01:33, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Sky HD Retail Info

Hi how are you? Recently Sky HD retail info has been added to residential customers and if i put it in the List of hd channels in the republic of ireland i have a strong feeling that you will remove it so can you investigate it and let me know 188.141.2.131 (talk) 18:09, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes Maybe we could do that ? But do you know why is it not available to all customers Jasmeet?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.141.2.131 (talk) 22:33, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay. When i was in a friend of mines i was looking at his epg. He didn't have Sky HD Retail info (He didnt have sky world) I have sky world and i have sky hd retail info so would it be just for customers with sky world? I have been in contact with sky and the longest they take to reply is about 15 minutes so if you want to wait just a minute and they will be back to me. 188.141.2.131 (talk) 17:15, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

yes i know but my channel is watchable. On my EPG SBO HD3 is gone (Sky box Office) was it only a temporary HD channel? And do you know does ESPN have restrictions in the ROI for some programmes ? 188.141.2.131 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:43, 16 December 2010 (UTC).

Dates

Wikipedia is an American based website so it makes sense to use American dating plus your so-called UK/European date and time format does not allow people to see what happened on that day in previous years as does with the American dating system that is why it is better to use the American dating system. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nua eire (talkcontribs) 20:57, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

ITV2 +1

Please will you NOT change the 'Virgin TV channels' page again, where I made a change to the channnel air timing of ITV2+1. The channel shares the same Freeview shift with CITV like BBC3 and CBBC Channel. For your information, I would like to point out to you personally that ITV2+1 airs from 19:00 to 04:00 (you can check if you have a TV in Britain - or 'online'). Thank you for reading this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kygars 360 (talkcontribs) 19:49, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, your incorrect.[9] The channel only timeshares on DTT (Freeview) because of bandwidth constants on that service. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 12:18, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

'disruptive'

How are my edits 'disruptive'? How can you justify removing all my edits? What was wrong with them? Cyclips (talk) 18:50, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi I was going to post on your talk page Cyclips but as you have posted here I will post this here. The problem is the edit you added to the tables of channel removed are not supposed to be there because this table is only is for only channels removed from the DTT platform, this does not include channels that have ceased broadcasting or channels that have changed there name. (Ruth-2013 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC))

If you look this is what it says at the top of the tables: These are channels that have been removed from digital terrestrial television. This does not include rebranded channels or channels that have ceased broadcasting.(Ruth-2013 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC)) The other thing is most of the channels are listed by there actual channel name and not the service name used on the DTT platform as there known by different names on other platforms. (Ruth-2013 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC))

I have requested and been granted 3 days full protection on the list of DTT channels article till this is resolved. I am going to copy this to your talk page as well. (Ruth-2013 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2011 (UTC))

As above really. - Jasmeet_181 (talk) 13:16, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

DTT channels list

I have had to revert some edits on this page as one user erased some data and also added channels that don't belong in the channels removed tables so can you please double check I have not missed anything when reverting these edits as I could not remember all of the data on that page namely the removed tables.
