  Hello, I'm Kleuske. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Advocacy have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Kleuske (talk) 12:30, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but this is not promotional material. Think that if this would be promotional, then half of the items in the same lists should be deleted.Isabellebrant (talk) 13:58, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Outline of public affairs. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Nomination of Interest Groups & Advocacy for deletion

edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Interest Groups & Advocacy is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Interest Groups & Advocacy until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. 331dot (talk) 13:14, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I am a few hours on wikipedia. I add an article on a subject on which I have some (well, a lot of) expertise and, sorry for the harsh words, I get immediately the message that the stuff I post will be considered for deletion (although there is no commercial or political interest whatsoever and although I see nothing offensive). What a welcome! I think that I will cancel my account soon... Isabellebrant (talk) 13:57, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Accounts cannot be "cancelled"; if you don't want to come here any more, simply stop coming- but no one wants that. What we want is for you to learn about how things are done on this encyclopedia. If you are willing to learn, many people here would be willing to help you. 331dot (talk) 14:00, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I would first ask you if you are associated with this publication in any way. If so, Wikipedia's policies may require you to do certain things, which I'll only go into if needed. 331dot (talk) 14:02, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
of course I am associated with this publication. I am part of the editorial board of the journal. Yet, this is something I do for free and I have no commercial interest whatsoever in the journal. 143.169.128.17 (talk) 14:26, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
If you are on the board, then you have a conflict of interest. Please review that policy. 331dot (talk) 14:32, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
oh, I see that it is already deleted... good luck with deleting all the other think-tanks, research teams, lobby groups, social movements, public affairs companies and other stuff that are on wikipedia. Isabellebrant (talk) 14:39, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
ok, then we can delete almost all the items (at least in this particular area). But I am not going to spend my time on this. Good luck with this! I will simply delete this one so that you do not have to bother about it.Isabellebrant (talk) 14:36, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's certainly your choice on what you want to do here- but please understand that just because other journals and think tanks have pages, it does not mean that yours automatically merits one; each page is judged on its own merits. 331dot (talk) 14:43, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I would add that there also seems to be copyright issues here, as noted below. Copyright is taken very seriously here. 331dot (talk) 14:48, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
have you checked all other COIs? Think the only academic journal in this area should be mentioned in this source, but again, that's my view (and maybe you think that all the other sources are worth mentioning?). Anyway, I will not spend much more time here.... Isabellebrant (talk) 14:59, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure there are other COIs around Wikipedia, that's likely for any website editable by any person. You probably feel like you are being targeted and I'm sorry for that, but it isn't the case. We are all volunteers and can only deal with what is in front of us. There are ways for you to create an article despite a COI; one good one is visiting Articles for Creation where you can submit a draft for an independent review before it is posted. I hope that you avail yourself of that option. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you well. 331dot (talk) 15:15, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Well, it is very simple. I am an academic scholar, I work entirely for free (so I gain no benefit at all, nada), have no interest at all (much less than most other items you see in this area), and there is not such a thing as a COI here (the notion in itself is ridiculous with regard to this particular case). Indeed, I feel targeted and, because of this, I do not plan to spend much more time on this (if you want to target real COI, then I think you should start looking somewhere else). Sorry... Isabellebrant (talk) 15:46, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
You don't have to gain a benefit or money to have a conflict of interest; it is as much about appearance as it is about an actual conflict. If you haven't already, please review the policy. If you disagree that being on the board of a journal means you have a conflict of interest in writing about said journal, there wouldn't seem to be much I could do to change your mind. I've said how you might be able to get a page written(though it would have to be after resolving the copyright issues mentioned). I regret any bad feelings you might have, there was no intention to do so. 331dot (talk) 15:59, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Isabellebrant. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Interest Groups & Advocacy, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 13:18, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is scarcely ever acceptable to post content copied from elsewhere to Wikipedia, as you did at Interest Groups & Advocacy, as doing so is almost always a copyright infringement. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:07, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

I can easily edit the content, but I wait with this for some time as some people think that the item should be deleted from wikipedia. Isabellebrant (talk) 14:29, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
thanks for deleting this Isabellebrant (talk) 14:40, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
