Ravensbourne, Queensland edit

That was a really nice map that you added, but I think you were misinterpreting what the Qld Place Names database was saying about Ravensbourne. It wasn't saying that the parish became the locality, but simply that the locality took its name from the parish, which in turn took its name from the pastoral run. This is quite a common way localities are named (and in turn parishes) and the boundaries of all three (locality/parish/run) are/were usually different (but obviously in the same general area). The creation of the locality didn't cause the parish to cease to exist. Parishes still exist, but they no longer have a role in identifying a piece of land under the current Qld land title system, but are still needed to interpret historic land titles. So a map comparing the boundaries of the locality and parish isn't meaningful, although I loved the map itself -- what tool did you use to create it? Kerry (talk) 04:38, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Kerry Raymond:, thanks for your feedback. I understood that the locality took the name of the parish and that the parish still exists, but perhaps my wording wasn't the best for the image caption/legend. The reason I added this map was because I thought it would be useful for discussing the history of Ravensbourne (this was why I added it to the history section rather than the geography section). I think the map will be useful and I'd like to add it back in after I adjust the caption/legend. However, if you have a reason for not adding the map back I'm open to other suggestions? I'm going to work a little on the history section today and I'll post an updated map on the page, let me know if you want me to change/move it elsewhere. -- To create the map I used Inkscape. Good idea! I think maps are an excellent way to convey information. Kerry (talk) 05:46, 27 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
