Indian locomotives page move

edit

Regarding your move of Indian locomotives, please take a moment to read Wikipedia:Naming conventions, specifically, "Do not capitalize second and subsequent words unless the title is a proper noun (such as a name) or is otherwise almost always capitalized (for example: John Wayne and Art Nouveau, but not Computer Game)." In this instance, Locomotives is not a proper noun, so it should not be capitalized. Slambo (Speak) 18:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

sorry bout dat. i left my comment at da wrong place. Thank you for giving me such a warm welcome. You may already know about this, but i have a strong passion and pride for my country and its history. So you're from India? Korea and India have many historical ties. I won't get into detail, but they were mutual overall. If you want to organize my article about Emperor Chi-Woo, then feel free to do so, but just don't change any of the content. Anyways, its very nice to meet you, iball. User: Kprideboi 4:41 PM, 10 August 2006 (EST)

Hi! That was a plesant surprise!!! I mean the barnstar. I see many of your contributions are related to India. Are you from West Bengal also? I see also you contributed in articles relating to Hooghly. Today only i uploaded a pic of Hangseshwari temple near Banshberia. You can see it here. Could not create a substantial article due to lack of material...though creating a stub is not difficult. I saw some of your edits in Feluda. satyajit Ray has recently become a Featured article. Anyway, thanks a lot. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:49, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bangla wikipedia

edit

Hi Debottam, I'm an admin/bureaucrat in Bangla wikipedia, and I was wondering if you'd like to take a look at it, and possibly contribute there. Right now, we are fast reaching 5000 articles there. Though we have a lot of active contributors (20+), we only have 3 or 4 from West Bengal. So, if you can, please join us there.

The only things you'd need are: Bangla unicode fonts/rendering support to read the text, and a Bangla keyboard (Avro, Shabdik, Ekushey are some options).

Feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks.

--Ragib 16:59, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I forgot to reply to your questions ... so here we go. For viewing Bangla wikipedia, you need Bangla unicode support. For typing, you need a software like Avro. I'd suggest getting and installing Avro keyboard from [1], though you can use other software like Shabdik or Ekushey. Avro comes with the fonts and the instructions on how to set up Windows XP/2000, but you can also find them here. Most of these typing systems support phonetic typing, so you don't really have to memorize the layout. If you are using avro, just choose the "Avro phonetic" mode. In that mode, to type kolkata কলকাতা in Bangla, you'd have to type k-o-l-o-k-a-t-a. To type poschimbongo পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, you'd have to type p-o-s-c-h-i-m-o-b-o-n-g-o. Let me know if need any more help. --Ragib 18:02, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please visit Bangla wikipedia regularly. Ragib is a great gyu managing the Bangla wikipedia almost single handedly. However, participation ftom West Bengal is relativeley less.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:49, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi... nice getting to know u

edit

Hi Iball... its nice to meet a fellow railfan ;-) Its also nice to hear someone trying to build a compendium of information on Indian locos. However, my interest is more on the passenger side... I am planning to create articles on Indian trains.

However, I have to inform u something. I wanted to take a look at the articles you had specified, but bcoz u had not provided links, I had to use the search box. When I searched for say, WAG-7, I am not redirected to the WAG-7 page. Rather, I see only the search results. Maybe we could provide redirects?

Also, am sorry for the late reply. The Silent Contributor 09:57, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You said that, I was wondering whether my approach on righting these articles is right and needed somone else to look at them. Well, I believe you'd like someone to assess your articles. For rail-related articles, go here and request an assessment. Also, since this is India related, go here and request an assessment. The Silent Contributor 07:07, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Category for locos?

edit

On the Category:India rail stubs page, we can see a list of all locomotives that run on Indian Railways. Would it not be better if we had a separate category for Indian locomotives? This category could also be a subcategory of Category:Locomotives by railway. We should think of a suitable name for this category. Waiting for your feedback. The Silent Contributor 05:26, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You'll create the category, then? The Silent Contributor 13:08, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: How to create a new category

edit

It's pretty simple to do, just go to the page where the category would end up and add at least one parent category. We don't already have categories for locomotives by country, so might I suggest Category:Indian locomotives for a category about locomotives in India, and setting its parent category to Category:Locomotives. If the new category gets too big (more than 200 articles), it can be subsplit by power type, e.g. Category:Indian steam locomotives, Category:Indian diesel locomotives and Category:Indian electric locomotives (these subcategories would also be subcategories of Category:Steam locomotives, Category:Diesel locomotives and Category:Electric locomotives, respectively).

Oh, now that I look at my notes in preview mode, I see that Category:Indian locomotives was created earlier today as a subcategory of Category:Locomotives by railway. Slambo (Speak) 15:08, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Direct wikipedia search from opera.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Direct wikipedia search from opera.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:15, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Downed black hawk (video game).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Downed black hawk (video game).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:54, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since the term has been discussed in publications and newspapers beyond the scope of a dictionary definition, it passes Wikipedia notability policies. But, you can request to have the title changed to "Greater Bangladesh conspiracy theory" at Wikipedia:Requested moves. It really does need a radical improvement in terms of copy and organization. I plan to get back to that when I have a bit more time on hand (life is all work for some time now... sad). Hi. When you recently edited Partition of Bengal (1947), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Rehabilitation, Nadia and Barren (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion|Speedy deletion]] nomination of [[:Direct wikipedia search from opera]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Direct wikipedia search from opera, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Proposed deletion of Kabalo Bridge

edit

The article Kabalo Bridge has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I haven found any RIS covering this bridge so don’t believe it is notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
