Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.   Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This is your last warning.
The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist, which includes all of Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Re: Spam Links?

edit

Firstly, just to let you know, removing the links and warning you was entirely in my purview. Secondly, mass adding undiscussed links from a single purpose account suggests an agenda and is not welcome here, sorry. Wikipedia is not a mere repository of links, and in this case, the merit of the links you were adding was questionable anyway, because they require special software and are not accessible to a large number of readers. Hi there. I'm Premeditated Chaos, a Wikipedia administrator. Your editing was brought to my attention via IRC, so I looked over the issue and this is what I perceive to be happing. It seems to me that you're an editor in good faith who's trying to link users of Wikipedia to useful information at the BBC (a reputable media institution). However, adding links wholesale to articles with tangential relation to the subject of the link (for example, adding a link to a programme on quantum mechanics to Erwin Schrödinger; while Mr. Schrödinger did contribute significantly to the field, the programme isn't about him and isn't really relevant) is generally frowned upon. Editors have been blocked for it, in fact.
I understand your desire to share this valuable resource with Wikipedia, however, may I recommend that you refrain from adding links in cases where the relationship between article subject and programme is merely tangential. You should also indicate that the programmes require RealPlayer to be heard, as not every user has this program, and it may be frustrating to them to access the links only to find that they cannot access the information. Finally, if you re-add the links and other users continue to remove them, it might be wise to bring up the issue on the Talk pages of the respective articles to see what the general community opinion is on the inclusion of those links (keeping in mind that Wikipedia practice is to hold to community consensus). ♠PMC♠ 09:33, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Direct linking isn't necessary, you should just follow what PMC said above. Reinistalk 12:40, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
