Question from HejjoDude (21:50, 24 October 2023)
When the author of a source is unknown, should I list their name as "unknown" or something similar? I couldn't find protocol for this in any official Wkipedia guides. Thank you in advance! --HejjoDude (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hello HejjoDude! You don’t need to do that— just fill in the fields that you can find, like the title or date of publication. Besides, if we do find out who the author is, it can always be updated later. :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 19:56, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from TheAvgRedditUser (19:07, 1 November 2023)
Uhh, hi. My name is theavgreddituser. Uh I have a question. My sandbox was deleted, is it ok if I re-add it? Since all I was doing was making alternate edits, practicing my skills. Thank and you and respond whenever you can :) --TheAvgRedditUser (talk) 19:07, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, TheAvgRedditUser. Material in your sandbox must be plausibly connected to improving the encyclopedia. Self-written alternate history does not qualify. Please read Wikipedia:Not for Alternate History. There are many websites that host such content but not Wikipedia. Cullen328 (talk) 19:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from MahamboBahatisha (18:18, 3 November 2023)
How can I write biography of my own? --MahamboBahatisha (talk) 18:18, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from MahamboBahatisha (18:23, 3 November 2023)
How can I write a bibliography about myself on Wikipedia? --MahamboBahatisha (talk) 18:23, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi MahamboBahatisha! Thanks for reaching out, and welcome. Creating an autobiography is a conflict of interest, so it’s strongly discouraged. It’s very difficult to write objectively (and verifiably) when you are the subject. If you do meet our guidelines for notability, it’s better to let someone else write that article. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:05, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Peewee2023$ (19:02, 4 November 2023)
Hello. Are sisso tree roots damaging? --Peewee2023$ (talk) 19:02, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Peewee2023$. I’ve never heard of this tree until now (Dalbergia sissoo?), so I’m not sure. You could try asking the science reference desk, where someone more familiar with it can offer their 2 cents. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:04, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Wyclef Cabana (06:07, 5 November 2023)
How can I efficiently use Wikipedia --Wyclef Cabana (talk) 06:07, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Wyclef Cabana, and welcome! Here are two tutorials that can help you become more acquainted with the ins and outs— Help:Introduction and The Wikipedia Adventure. The first is a bit more detailed, and the second is more of a game format. I personally recommend the first, but you are more than welcome to try both. The correct one to use is the one that works for you. :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:33, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from CosineTanSine (16:32, 9 November 2023)
Hi @HelenDegenerate, How do you put in a specialized picture in a Userbox, instead of just text? -CosineTanSine --CosineTanSine (talk) 16:32, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi CosineTanSine! There’s a parameter in the infobox template called ‘id’ (it’s called ‘logo’ in the visual editor). To insert an image, you’d go to the ‘id’ (or ‘logo’) parameter and add this string of text:
Just replace ‘Example.jpg’ with the name of the image. You can also adjust its size by changing 45 to any other number. - Here’s an example of the full thing:
{{Userbox| id = [[Image:Example.jpg|45px]]| info = This is a test.}}
◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:05, 10 November 2023 (UTC)- ... right, but are the only images the ones available on Wikipedia, or can you also import files as well? If so, where? Thanks! CosineTanSine (talk) 16:35, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- @CosineTanSine Yes, you can upload your own images using the this form on Wikimedia Commons. However, you have to be cautious to avoid copyright issues— here’s a guide to determining what images can and can’t be used. Administrators' newsletter – December 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
- Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.
- Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
- The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 11, 2023 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
Question from Kentucky Native (14:43, 9 December 2023)
Good Morning! Is it Sarah? I hope your weekend is going well.
I would like to create a page about Bing Bush - a Kentucky native who is called "The Mayor of Del Mar".
At your leisure, could you help me get started?
Many thanks, Marcel --Kentucky Native (talk) 14:43, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Marcel, and welcome! I’m not a Sarah, but I do go by Helen on here. Before starting, you’ll want to make sure that Bing meets our notability guidelines. The major rule of thumb that we use is
A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
- Once you confirm that Bing meets that, you can start a draft using the Article Wizard. Hope this helps! ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 22:19, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you Helen.
- Bing Bush has been featured many times in publications related to Thoroughbred racing, including Blood-Horse Magazine and The Daily Racing Form, and he is frequently interviewed by TVG network. Does that suffice? Kentucky Native (talk) 02:16, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Marcel I went through the sources, and The Blood-Horse appears reliable. They have editorial staff listed on their site— that’s always a good sign. The Daily Racing Form and TVG, I’m less confident about, so I recommend opening a thread about them at the reliable sources noticeboard, where other editors can look at them more in-depth. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 18:51, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from HarryMaguireistheGOAT (23:53, 12 December 2023)
Hi I need help in making a page, I’ve been requested to create a page for a man called Josh Yugen but when I did it was placed on the delete list for an unspecified reason --HarryMaguireistheGOAT (talk) 23:53, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi HarryMaguireistheGOAT, I went through the logs, and it says that the draft was deleted under the criterion G11, or unambiguous advertising.
- Since someone asked you to create the article about Josh, it sounds as if you had a conflict of interest. I personally don’t recommend writing articles on subjects that you have a COI with, because it’s very difficult to write about them in a way that’s both neutral (free of promotional language, which is why the draft was deleted) and verifiable. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:45, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

HOW CAN I INSERT CHART AND DRAWINGS ON MY PAGE? --UCA 76 (talk) 20:00, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi UCA 76, and welcome to Wikipedia. :) You can create them by inserting templates and editing their variables (called ‘parameters’ here) as needed— I’m not sure what type of chart you’re looking for, whether it be a pie chart, bar graph, or something different, so here’s a selection of templates! Happy editing, ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 01:08, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the support.
- What of making my article visible on Wikipedia page? How long does it take to undergo verification?
- Cheers UCA 76 (talk) 11:49, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- @UCA 76 If you submit your draft through the Articles for Creation process (which I recommend), it can take anywhere from a day to a few weeks to be reviewed, depending on how many other drafts are waiting in the backlog at the time. When your draft does get reviewed, it’ll either be accepted and moved to article space, or declined, but the reviewer will explain why and offer ways to improve it. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:26, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Maisiesucks (16:16, 27 December 2023)
Hello! I was just wondering how to go about adding neutral information regarding a subject as "fluffy" and subjective as art - because it can obviously be interpreted in different ways by different people so I was wondering in what way I should go about commenting on it, and its meanings. I added a section to the American Imperialism page about American expansion through artistic expression - however I am unsure as to whether I remained neutral enough considering it is such an ambiguous, subjective subject. --Maisiesucks (talk) 16:16, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Maisiesucks! I agree that sometimes it can be difficult to avoid original research when discussing artwork. Here’s a good rule of thumb to follow: it would be fine to write that Art Critic X (or multiple people) interpreted a piece of artwork in Y way (and then citing them afterwards), but it wouldn’t be fine to write in Wikipedia’s voice that the artwork means exactly Y.
- I’d look at good articles about art and read through their ‘interpretations’ or ‘analysis’ sections, so you can see how they include different viewpoints without the article coming to a specific conclusion and saying ‘this is the way’. Hope this helps :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 20:46, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, how do I fix the formatting error on my user page? Sometime on small screen laptops it works but on my Windows 11 laptop the words "Userbox templates... - @Wyls1000 I looked at the source code, and I think it has to do with where you placed the line
Userbox templates
. It’s below all of the userbox templates, and even though it’s rendered normally on my end (I’m on an iPad Pro), I can see how it might cause issues on other devices. Question from MisclickedIG (05:09, 20 January 2024)
How do I make my own article? --MisclickedIG (talk) 05:09, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi MisclickedIG! Welcome to Wikipedia. :) First I’d read through Help:Your first article— it’ll take you through the various do’s and don’ts of article creation that you’ll need to follow. That page helped me a lot when I wrote my first, and I can’t recommend it enough. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 22:31, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
Question from Loribaker2757 (23:04, 20 January 2024)
How do I create a citation? --Loribaker2757 (talk) 23:04, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Loribaker2757, assuming you’re using the source editor, there’s a button that says ‘cite’ at the top of the interface. When you click on it, a little button that says ‘templates’ will pop up. From there, you’ll be given four different options for the citation, depending on whether you want to cite a book, website, et cetera. Pick one of those, and then fill out the fields.
- If you want to see it in action before trying it, this page has a video. Happy editing, and let me know if you need help with anything else! ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 22:49, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much!

Question from Bdas.in (10:36, 30 January 2024)
You are assigned as My Mentor on Wikipedia. May I ask you anything related to the Wikipedia article? And you will help in solving my doubts and issues. Please confirmed. --Bhajan Das (talk) 10:36, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Bdas.in! Yep, that’s what I’m here for. :) Let me know if you need help with anything. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 02:55, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
- Please guide. How to save an article that is nominated for deletion. That article is Sangeeta Gupta Bhajan Das (talk) 05:01, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
- Bdas.in, in order to show that Gupta is notable enough for an article, there needs to be substantial coverage of her in reliable sources with which she is unaffiliated. I looked through the article as it’s currently written. At the moment, her own website is used as a citation 50+ times.
- If there are reliable third-party sources which cover her, I recommend adding them to the article to address the sourcing concerns, then linking to them at the deletion discussion. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 02:39, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
- I understand now that she added this information on her own and link with her own from her website. Can we save the article by removing the information that was unable to cover with reliable sources? Bhajan Das (talk) 13:28, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
- Bdas.in That would definitely help improve it, but the main priority is finding sources which establish her notability.
- On the template that says
An editor has nominated this article for deletion
, there’s a search bar which could help. I’d check the results that it turns up— for example, I’ve just found this article from The Hindu. - If you find something which covers her in-depth (not just a passing mention) and you’re wondering if it’s reliable, you could take it to the reliable sources noticeboard for evaluation before adding it into the article. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 23:36, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Kumpáninn (14:52, 2 February 2024)
Hello how do i create a new page. There isn’t a page for a person and I would like to create one --Kumpáninn (talk) 14:52, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Kumpáninn, welcome to Wikipedia! You can start a draft for an article using the Article Wizard, but before doing so, I’d have a look at this page for an overview of the guidelines. :) ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 15:49, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from Aitia (formerly GNS Healthcare) (18:19, 5 February 2024)
Hello - I am new to Wiki and I am not sure if the page I just created for my company is showing? We went through a major rebranding/renaming and I need to update that asap. The page is now in my sandbox and I am not sure how to move it to the public page. Appreciate your help! --Aitia (formerly GNS Healthcare) (talk) 18:19, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from Bdas.in (15:20, 3 February 2024)
Can you check this article? Vidushi Sunanda Sharma And, guide me on why this tag is added and how to remove this tag. --Bhajan Das (talk) 15:20, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Bdas.in: One of the reasons it was tagged was because currently no other article links to it; this is known as an ‘orphan’. Here’s a page with some tips on how to de-orphan articles. There are various tools listed there that can help you find related subjects or even mentions of her name in other articles.
- The other reason is due to the article’s shortage of reliable third-party sources, similar to the Sangeeta Gupta article. An example of this would be citation 21, which was meant to back up a passage that a song was released— when I clicked it, it took me straight to the song on Apple Music. It’s not an independent source, since it’s directly affiliated with Sharma. This can be resolved by searching around to see if quality sources exist somewhere, and adding them. I hope this helps! ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 03:26, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for providing me with valuable guidelines. May I have to update or take this topic on Talk to discuss with other users and reviewers, which will help in the removal of this tag. Bhajan Das (talk) 07:20, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
Question from Ka$h flips (10:46, 7 February 2024)
Can i create an artist wikipedia page for myself? Im an up n coming london artist --Ka$h flips (talk) 10:46, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Ka$h flips! Welcome to Wikipedia. :) While writing an article about yourself isn’t explicitly forbidden, I wouldn’t suggest doing it— it’s nearly impossible to write neutrally and verifiably (including only information that can be backed up with reliable sources) about yourself. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 03:34, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Cupofdirtfordinner (05:35, 12 February 2024)
Hello! There is an obscure game from the 2000's called Neverball, and I noticed it didn't have a Wikipedia page and instead just redirected to the page for Super Monkey Ball (a completely unrelated game from the 90's). How would I go about fixing this? If I create a Wikipedia article titled "Neverball", would I have to manually change redirects on other articles (like the "see also" section of the page for Ballance)? --Cupofdirtfordinner (talk) 05:35, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Cupofdirtfordinner! If you create the Neverball article by replacing the contents of the redirect page with prose, anything that previously linked to the Neverball redirect would then link to the article you created. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 03:15, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
