Re your post on my talk page edit

I assume you are the same person as User:76.6.2.0 and also assume that you left a message on my talk page because of my posts to User talk:76.6.2.0.

Since you identify yourself as the owner of the company that runs the various Go[North Carolina County].com websites, there are several policies and guidelines you need to be aware of. First off, there is the standard conflict of interest notice:

COI notice edit

Hello GoNC Network. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Spam, Single purpose accounts, and External links edit

Give the edits you made as an IP user (see Special:Contributions/76.6.2.0) you should also read up on link spamming at WP:LINKSPAM, on single purpose accounts at WP:SPA, and you already have read up on External links at WP:EL.

Since Nuclear Warfare, Jak86 and I have all reverted your additions as link spam, and with the COI concerns, I do not see that you have much of a case to add these links to the articles in question. However, if you want to appeal to a wider audience, please see Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply on my talk page. I have weighed in on the Noticeboard and have informed the other editors who reverted your edits about the discussion there. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:20, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
What can I do now?
You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Your recent edits edit

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 19:14, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unblock edit

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I think that this is extremely unfair. From the time that I received an initial warning, which is currently in dispute at the Noticeboard, I have made no further edits. I'm perfectly willing to abide by the rules, but by banning me you've removed my ability to even discuss it.

Decline reason:

One of the problems is your username, which was deemed by an administrator to be in violation of the rules. The first step to being allowed to participate on Wikipedia is to request a new username which complies with the username policy—especially the restriction against organization names as usernames. You'll still have a conflict of interest with the GoNC Network even after you change usernames, though, which will require you to edit with caution on topics related to the network. —C.Fred (talk) 23:52, 25 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I'm not sure how to reply to Fred. I understand the issue with the username. It was only created to respond to the removal of earlier submissions, anyway, so I don't care to change it; I only wanted something that I could remember. Please note that being unblocked is the only way that I can continue my appeal on the Noticeboard, so I'm requesting the new username "Jason W. Carlton".

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. I am only doing this as ORange Mike and C.Fred are both OK with the removing the block, but note that Orange Mike specifically said "'m good with it, as long as he understands the terms do not permit him to be spamlinking for his network of sites...". Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:59, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Attn: C.Fred edit

I just wanted to remind you that Orangemike stated that he had no problem with unblocking this account. I know that you're busy, but since my appeal is still under discussion on the Noticeboard, I'm hoping to reply before it's archived away.

I have copied the discussion here from User talk:Orangemike. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:54, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Unblock request from User:GoNC Network - any objections? edit

Any objections to an unblock of GoNC Network (talk · contribs) so he can pursue a change of username? He's been trying to discuss the links to his sites on the EL noticeboard, so I'm willing to extend him the courtesy of letting him request an unblock and continue to discuss. It's your block, and not a softerblock, so I wanted to ask before I did it. —C.Fred (talk) 03:16, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm good with it, as long as he understands the terms do not permit him to be spamlinking for his network of sites; the usual, in other words. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:23, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: edit

Thanks, guys. Just a note, I have (and had) no intention of spamlinking, and do not personally believe that I did so. But if the Noticeboard disagrees, then I have no intention of breaking the rules.

I've read, but I'm not sure if there's a "correct" way to change the username, other than just logging out and creating a new one? That's what I'm doing now, so if this is wrong then I plead ignorance. GoNC Network (talk) 22:32, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

You can request a change of username at WP:CHU. —C.Fred (talk) 22:41, 27 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
