Canadian GAA Infoboxes
editThe "drafts" that you have there are ok, but a team is either in one or the other championship. East or West!! So I'm not sure if that does anything for us... Is this how I should be responding (RDeane)
Dublin GAA?
editUnfortunatley, it is nearly impossible to find information on GAA players, probably because of their amateur status. Not much info can be written about the players, even DOB's are hard to come by.--Play Brian Moore 03:52, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
GAA project
editI saw that you put a not up on the notice board, and havent got much of a responce which is not to unusuall. I might just over the weekend start to put the project together anway, i have noticed that people have a tendancy to join after the start up the before hand, it also the responce form the addations of Ecorry (talk • contribs) who apprently is Eoghan Corry, he also edits under the ip of 213.94.252.214 (talk • contribs). While his backgrounds are impressive, his addations to the GAA article, have been similar to txt dumps, being unformatted, and have a bookish flavour, it makes me wonder if is where this pov questions you have come across. Anway, at least with the project we can set up a standard, or at least a common look for the articles, from the proviences on down to the clubs, and so on. Let me know what you think. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 08:17, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well i'll work on trying to put something up their weekend, at least the start of something. As for Ecorry, if he is the person that it seems that he could be, then his adations are, at least in my opinion, a bit of a supprise. Basically i would not expect a historian, espically for the GAA, to write items that seem to be slanted in a particular way, which seems to be the case, for the most part, for articles out side of Kildare. Regardless though it seems like he does have a fiar amout of infomation ot provide, so i guess the best cours of action would be to engage him, and try to get him to but in less bookish/pov addations, and addations that are more along the style gusildelins that have been defacto, then see hwat happens from their. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 04:41, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- Was thinking, what should the project be named, GAA, Gaelic games, or Gaelic Athletic Association, all would have WikiProject before them. - I dont know what to tel you about him. At least you have tried to engae him, seems to be unresponsive, anyway it looks as if we are just going to have to flus out his edits as we go along. You might want to bring it up to the notice board, see what they think, or something. Any wya just have to keep an eye on his edit and mke the needed changes, espically if he re-edits an article that some one has fixed up. As for the project it will hopefully be up either today or in the next couple of days, i have been a bit under the weather, and have been sidetracked by some other stuff. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 05:17, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

GAA articles
editYou seem to be removing a fair bit of content from GAA articles but you didn't use an edit summary. Are the players not playing for the teams any more, the large removals have me a little puzzled -- Tawker 19:45, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
FYI
editMy edits to GAA pages seems to attracted some attention to explain i am doing the following
i am removing the line x is a prominent GAA club in County Kildare, significant in Kildare GAA history as it pov and cant be true for every club in kildare and removing the clubs links and adding them to category gaa clubs in kildare, i have asked user:ecorry to do this but he has ignored my request

GAA Infoboxes
editCan some one tell which of the following formats are correct as i want to set the correct format on Wikipedia:WikiProject Gaelic Games page

- tl|GAA Club Infobox - Infobox last ,big c , big i ?

Image copyright problem with Image:Gaelicfootball.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Gaelicfootball.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ed g2s • talk 14:56, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Why did you flag this image: Image:Gaelicfootball.jpg. This image has been released into the pd. (Gnevin 15:05, 26 April 2006 (UTC))

- Yes, the copyright holder (in this case - the photographer, or the photography agency) must explicity release it into the public domain. ed g2s • talk 15:11, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Where on his web site or wiki? (Gnevin 15:13, 26 April 2006 (UTC))
- Either, but preferrably here, if he has an account. ed g2s • talk 15:17, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well its seems to me that the tag pd|release is pointless then . If the creator has to come to wiki himself to release the image it would be better too only allow the image creator too upload their work and remove this tag altogether. And since he doesnt have a wiki account himself wouldnt it be unbeliviable if a account is created just to relase an image ?? I'll will post a message on the gaa board too seem if he will create a wiki account but this whole systems seems flawed to me (Gnevin 15:27, 26 April 2006 (UTC))
- He doesn't have to. It's just preferrable, as a posting on another site can't be trusted to still be there a year from now. It is always going to be impossible to prove these things absolutely, but one must try to provide sufficient evidence, so others can use the image without having to worry. A copy of the correspondence would probably suffice here. ed g2s • talk 15:34, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Parnell Park.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Parnell Park.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 15:05, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
POV
editYou have a serious misconception concerning the policy on pov. Please read Wikipedia:Neutral point of view carefully:
- "all articles must be written from a neutral point of view, representing views fairly and without bias" (my emphasis here and in what follows).
- "The policy requires that, where there are or have been conflicting views, these should be presented fairly, but not asserted. All significant points of view are presented, not just the most popular one."
- "As the name suggests, the neutral point of view is a point of view, not the absence or elimination of viewpoints."
- And: "assert facts, including facts about opinions — but don't assert opinions themselves."
All the quotes here are from official Wikipedia policy and not just a guideline that you may ignore. Trying to eliminate the Shi'a viewpoint is in direct contravention of Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. I hope this clarifies the issue. --LambiamTalk 23:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
.......................................
You write "Compare this ali articial to Jesus (prophet in Islam) and you'll see its doesnt relpy on a page of quotes." Well, that is actually a severe weakness of that article. See Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research, which mandate citing sources. How else can we know some editor is not making it up when s/he writes: "According to Islam, no sacrifice can add to divine grace nor replace the necessity of repentance"? I could add {{citation needed}} to about every other sentence there and be absolutely right in doing so – not that I am planning to do that.
Where you write "Their views as scholars and thats all they are are views should no more be on wiki than mine," I totally disagree. What do you think, should any views at all be presented on Wikipedia? If not, we can scrap basically all articles, except maybe some stating that 2 times 2 equals 4.
Now concerning your observation that the article neutralizes negative comments by countering them with positive ones. You may be right, but is that a ground for deletion? Quoting from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion: "The argument 'non-neutral point of view' (violates WP:NPOV) is often used, but often such articles can be salvaged, so this is not a very strong reason for deletion." And from Wikipedia:Guide to deletion: "A failure to conform to a neutral point of view is usually remedied through editing for neutrality". In fact, I'd say: {{sofixit}}. --LambiamTalk 00:34, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Gnevin. Had a look at your new infobox and what you've done seems good. I don't know if its my browser but the county and provincial details don't come up.
Also you need to show what intercounty awards and all-stars the player has won. Maybe as a Dub you want to keep that bit quiet :) Afn 09:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Republican template
editIt was not suggesting that the GAA was a republican organisation, but that it was an organisation that included and influenced republicans. (If you read the new biography of Eoin O'Duffy you'll see the impact his role on Monaghan GAA had on his politics in the War of Independence.) It was intended to link the GAA to the Nationalist template too as both Nationalists and Republicans were impacted upon by the GAA (and other societies that themselves weren't necessarily Republican). The idea with this (and the other templates on Nationalism, Monarchism and Unionism) is to link topics that people interested in the area should go to. It isn't saying that something on the list is republican, or nationalist, or monarchist, or unionist, merely that the issue gives context in understanding the topic. And the GAA as a mass membership organisation involved in stoking up a sense of Irish identity did play a part in increasing the demand for separation from Britain. So did the Abbey Theatre and the Irish Ireland movements but neither were republican. Indeed Douglas Hyde was passionately anti-republican and quit the Gaelic League when Pearse and co began infiltrating it.
That alone was the reason for the GAA's inclusion. It wasn't meant to mean 'GAA=republican' But the template was still a work in progress. If you see a problem with its inclusion, as clearly you do, then I won't include it. FearÉIREANN \(caint) 04:59, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

See the discussion on Football firm. It makes no sense to call the article Football firm if it says they can support other sports. editThe excellent content of WP:BITE for your consideration.
I agree that Ozzwald's early edits were a problem, but the end result of your discussions didn't get the right message across to him.
It is important for Wikipedia, in the long term, that we gently and positively educate newcomers, so that we don't drive off enthusiastic people who don't understand WP yet.
Thanks, and good editing. Georgewilliamherbert 20:57, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ozzwald35 was fumbling badly but trying to do something that was fundamentally clearly not vandalistic; he was trying to improve Wikipedia. You can only call what he was doing vandalism if you assume bad faith, which is also against WP policy. They were bad edits (to an article), but would have been fine on the talk page. Once someone explained that to him, he immediately started doing the right thing and discussing it on the talk page.
- All you did is call him a vandal, which is unfortunate, but if you'd reacted more severely you'd be violating WP:BITE and WP:AGF, and you'd have admins at least warning you. Don't bite the newbies is important. You're relatively new yourself, which explains why you may not be as familiar with its importance, but you've edited a lot and need to start handling problems with more sophistication. Please keep that in mind in the future. Georgewilliamherbert 17:55, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

editHi, sorry to drop this message onto your page but I'm trying to invoke a discussion on the WP:IMOS page as to what to use for the historical references to the city of Derry/Londonderry. I am trying to obtain a non-POV neutral discussion over what terminology to use for this or whether the IMOS as it stands should indeed cover this. Since you have been involved in discussions over Derry or County Londonderry and the likes in the past I thought you may like to get involved in the discussion. See the appropriate talk to get involved. Thank you for your time. Ben W Bell talk 16:25, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:AWB request
editI added the {{GaelicGamesProject}} template to articles with existing talk pages in the GAA County Championships Category. Unfortunately, AWB won't create a page, even a talk page, where one doesn't exist so I couldn't get them all. However, all of the existing talk pages now have the template.
Let me know if I can be any help in the future.
Epolk 23:18, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- I added the template to the articles in the Gaelic Athletic Association stubs category. The same caveat as before applies. It is only on pages with existing Talk pages. The total number of pages I tagged was 99 but there are a couple that I double tagged due to an itchy mouse finger. If you need anymore help, drop me line but I won't be able to get to it till tomorrow.
Infobox
editHow about a county championship infobox, something along these lines,
{{Infobox Football County Championship | |image=| |year=| |relegated team=| |promoted team=| |matches=| |poty=| |winners=| |ordinal=| |captain=| |manager=| }}
It would be cool to have an info box for the articles such as Dublin Senior Club Football Championship 2006 or the Derry Senior Club Football Championship! Is it possible? Frainc 21:57 October 18 2006.
Yes, something like that but with things that are more relevant such as 'promoted team, relegated team' etc. Frainc 22:29 18 October 2006
Excellent, thats exactly what I was looking, thanks, rya gonna put it on the page? Frainc 22:53 18 October 2006
years in infoboxes?
editu suggested i dont put them in... y not. if the article is a stub (as most of mine are), then aren't the years a good starting point for future editors??
- ok then--Macca7174 10:43, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
editHey man, thanks a mill. Currently working on adding the winners and runners-up of the Leitrim football championship. I'm taking them from a page at leitrimgaa.ie, I hope that's okay! More on its discussion page where I'm about to raise it as a query.

- cheers also for having a look at my Tyrone GAA article. I was going to ask someone on the project page if they would have a look to see if i wrote too much. I need to get a bit more info now though, such as final scores, adn citable sources.--Macca7174 14:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Infobox for county championship
editAny chance youd be able to make an infobox for the county championships pages, i remember u did a infobox for the current events ones, like Dublin Senior Football Championship 2006. The following information would be needed:
Image
Official title = for example evening herald champo
Irish Language title
The year the championship began
First winner
Current Champions (with no. of wins)
The club who won most championships(with no. of wins)
and any other info u deem necessary
(Frainc 11:59, November 6, 2006 (UTC))
Cool, thatl be good to have that info box, ur right sunday was a rough one, gonna watch vins win now, Frainc 19:37 6 November 2006
Croke Park - fixture table
editI have made a comment at Talk:Croke Park#Fixture list and reverted there. Can we discuss it over there. Frelke 20:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
stub name change??
editWhy was the name of the stub {{gaelic-sport-stub}} to {{gaelic-games-stub}}?
I thought the proposal was to do with sub-categorising bios into {{gaelic-sport-bio-stub?
The current change will inevitably cause confusion if people, like I was, had gotten used to writing {{gaelic-sport-stub}}

Gaelic games stubs, subcats
editTo be honest it wasn't exactly clear. I'd suggest creating either a football/hurling split, or a biographies subcat, but not both, as that would tend to create a lot of double-stubbing on the one hand, and pretty small stub-types on the other. Alai 02:32, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
- The hurling/football split seems good to me; certainly there were no objections to it at the WSS page. Since these should also be tagged with an {{Ireland-bio-stub}} template, the need for separating the bios would be less urgent, I'd think. (OTOH, we might be about due for a general {{Ireland-sport-bio-stub}}.) Alai 14:54, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
