August 2023 edit

Hello Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. This is regarding Baris Tursun. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:00, 21 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

August 2023 edit

I am employed and work for the University of Hamburg for the Department of Biology as an employee in the media service, which can be seen from my name. https://www.biologie.uni-hamburg.de/service/medienservice/mitarbeiter-medienservice.html Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 10:04, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is not the way to disclose your paid editing status. The disclosure has to be made either on your user page, or on the talk page of every article to which your paid-editing status pertains, or preferably both. And it needs to be formatted using an appropriate template. The instructions are provided in the message I posted above earlier. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:13, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Excuse me, I don't quite understand what I have to do. a) I am not paid for posting a specific article, but I am permanently employed in the media service of the University of Hamburg, where I am responsible for, among other things, public relations tasks (See link above), which include maintaining Wikipedia entries that are of public interest. b) I don't understand exactly what I have to enter in which place in this regard. The link "paid" is not appropriate from my point of view, since I am not paid separately for the individual article, but work on it as part of my employment. I wonder if you can help me again please? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 07:55, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
You do come under our paid-editing rules if you are writing about your employer, even if you're not being paid explicitly to edit Wikipedia.
Would it help if I add the appropriate disclosures to your user page and the article talk page for you? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:03, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, please. Then can you give me a link to the entries? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:19, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have now added these to your user page User:Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio and to the sandbox draft's talk page User talk:Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio/sandbox. Please check that you are happy with both, and let me know if not. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:22, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much that is so right Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 08:58, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: Baris Tursun (August 30) edit

Thanks for the input. The article is an adaptation of an existing article on the German Wikipedia pages, which was also approved in this structure. (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baris_Tursun). I would like to add more links to the article, but I don't see any place that is not referenced. Can you please tell me in which specific statements you are missing a referencing. Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 14:48, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
For example, the 'Career' section has five paragraphs, only one of which has citations, therefore the other four are unreferenced. As a bare minimum, at least one citation should be included in each paragraph, and a paragraph should also end in a citation. If the paragraph is long, or contains potentially contentious or sensitive statements, then those statements must be supported with an immediate citation. Basically, the reader should never have to ask "where did this information come from". This is a key requirement for any article, but especially one on a living person (see WP:BLP).
Also just to say that whether an article on this topic was accepted into the German-language Wikipedia is neither here nor there, as each language version is a completely separate project with their own policies and guidelines. The English-language one has the strictest referencing and notability requirements of any (that I'm aware of, at least), therefore it is not at all unusual that an article is accepted into another language version, but the same article with the same referencing is not accepted into the English one. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:56, 30 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for pointing that out, I understand. Before I revise the article, I have another question: I have received a message that another article on "Baris Tursun" has already been submitted before mine and is waiting for review. To save time, this one should be considered and not mine. Can you tell me the status of this article and who submitted it? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 07:51, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
That is very odd – where, when and how did you receive such a message? And do you know who it was from? I can find no record of a pending draft, or a recently accepted or deleted one, that includes either of the names (Baris or Tursun) in the title. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:33, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
PS: Oh, I'm referring here to the English-language Wikipedia, of course. Did you mean another language version, perhaps? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:34, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Ah okay, now I understand. I hadn't realised that there were two drafts, and couldn't find the other as it's in your sandbox and not in the Draft: namespace.
  • It seems that an unregistered IP editor from the UHH (don't know if that was you?) created Draft:Baris Tursun on 24 March, and it was declined on 12 July.
  • A month later, on 17 August, you created a new draft in your sandbox at User:Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio/sandbox, and submitted it for review on 21 August. I declined it straight away, on the basis of the earlier draft (we cannot have multiple drafts on the same topic).
  • You then appear to have abandoned the sandbox draft, and instead resubmitted, on 30 August, Draft:Baris Tursun, but it was declined.
If you don't plan to develop the sandbox draft further, we should delete the content so that it doesn't cause similar confusion in the future. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:08, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is written in my "Talk" in the English Wikipedia Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:24, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did not submit a draft for Baris Tursun on March 24. That must have been a possible colleague of mine. How can we proceed with this? Can we continue to work on my submission? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:28, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Excuse my ignorance. It is my first Wikipedia entry. I thought the sandbox is the working version from which I can constantly correct and adjust the version to be edited. If I delete the sandbox, how can I find my version and continue editing? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:37, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
So just to be clear, you want to continue developing the sandbox draft, not the Draft:Baris Tursun one? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:43, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I only know my sandbox draft, which I find under "Sandbox" and have kept editing. Where do I find "Draft:Baris Tursun one" - is that another version I submitted or someone else? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:59, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
You resubmitted Draft:Baris Tursun last week. That's part of the reason why I'm confused as to which draft you now wish to work on going forward. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:20, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please take the one that is currently in the sandbox. I will revise it according to your requirements. Mich wundert, warum zwei Artikel von mir eingereicht sind. When I have revised the article in terms of the desired links, I just print on Publish and write a message - is that right? Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 12:29, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
When you have finished editing and want the draft to be reviewed for publication, you click on the blue 'resubmit' button, which submits it for review at AfC. It can take quite a while for it to be reviewed, though, as we have currently over 4,000 pending drafts in the system.
I should perhaps warn you, though, that if the author of the other draft (or indeed, any other user who wishes to edit it) submits it before you do, it may be accepted. I don't know how much of a risk that is, given that the IP editor hasn't been working on it for almost six months, and may have abandoned it. Just thought I ought to mention this possibility. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:36, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank You! Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 12:49, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you again for your help. The article has now been updated with additional links and resubmitted. If anything is still not right, please let me know. Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 11:40, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
You write: "Comment: The information contained within this draft should be merged with Draft:Baris Tursun and then that draft submitted for consideration. Dan arndt (talk) 03:06, 13 September 2023 (UTC)"
My question: How can I merge my new article (Baris Tursund 2), with the required links added, with the first article. So that only one article (Baris Tursund 2) is still submitted for review. Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 12:35, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
On 13 September, I had changed my article according to your suggestions. Since I have not received any feedback so far, I would like to ask if this is the right way to go, or if there is still something I need to do to get the article approved and published? Many thanks and greetings. Gitte bei Medienservice UHH Bio (talk) 08:21, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
