1934 Hungarian Squad edit

Hi. I noticed that back in June you removed a player named J Rozsnoyi from the 1934 Hungarian team. I was wondering what sources you had to determine this removal. Thank you. Libro0 20:27, 5 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the info. I had done exhaustive research as well. I noticed that the links you have are for Rozsonyi. However if you search for Rozsnoyi you get [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9].

If you search for Rosznoyi you get none other than the German Wikipedia for 1934 Ungarn. The closest possible result I found for J. Rozsonyi would be I. Pozsonyi. I can see how the J to I and R to P mistake could be made. But even Imre Pozsonyi could not be it because his bio reads 1880-1932. All I could guess is that it may have been a coach, trainer, or other team personnel that was never a player but somehow his name wound up on some FIFA roster. I noticed that the rest of the players came from only four teams Ferencvaros, Ujpest, MTK, and Debreceni. I tried to contact those teams about possibly knowing this player or coach. But I do not speak Hungarian so I don't get replies. Hopefully you will have better luck. Libro0 07:34, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay I have made the updates and listed the source. I just wanted to mention that for the early World Cups 30-62 most of the online information is either incomplete or has errors. When I started the team lineup pages for 30-62 it was my hope that they would be the most complete and most accurate available on the internet. For this reason I included at the bottom of these pages (Note*: Rosters include reserves, alternates, and preselected players that may have participated in qualifiers and/or pre-tournament friendlies but not in the finals themselves.) By doing this people can put to rest a lot of questions and hopefully correct any errors in their own data. So I left the removed Hungarian players on the list with an(*) and an explanation. This is done on several of the pages, a good example is England and Scotland in 1954 WC. So far no one has objected to this. Thanks to all the other people who have continued to add and update these rosters I believe that this site is now the definitive source on the internet. Libro0 20:27, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

1964 UEFA European Football Championship squads - Hungary edit

Seems like there was also Gyula Rákosi on the squad, is this true? -necronudist (talk) 14:57, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Uh ok! :-) However, I think you have a good Hungarian football knowledge and Hungarian football articles (players, WC/EC squads, etc) are full of mistakes. You can fix it, if you care. One question I already asked to another Hungarian: I've noticed that many Hungarian players has "alternative" surnames (e.g. see Sarosi/Stefancsics, Hidegkuti/Kaltenbrunner, Budai/Bednárik, Orth/Faludi, Palotás/Poteleczky...), I don't understand what they stands for. What's the original surname? Why they have more than one? --necronudist (talk) 12:10, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wow, thanks really really really a lot for the great explanation! As you see there's a lot of confusion about Hungarian players, so I hope you'll write down some of your knowledge :-) Thanks again for your kindness! Be sure I'll ask you everytime I have some doubts regarding Hungarian players... I'll be your nightmare!! :-D --necronudist (talk) 18:22, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hungarian National Championship edit

Yes, I'm sure that everyone in Hungary knows the league as "Nemzeti Bajnoksag" (apologies if I have misspelled it), but in the English-speaking world, most people wouldn't have a clue what that was. The difference with La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 is that those are the common terms for those leagues in English. Trust me, I have checked this out, and the most appropriate name for the Hungarian league's article is "Hungarian National Championship I". – PeeJay 16:43, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hungarian players in France edit

Hi! I'm trying to build a list about foreign Ligue 1 players here and I have a lack of informations about some Hungarian players. As you seem to have a great knowledge about Hungarian football, I was wondering if you could help me in adding informations. Here is a list of "doubtful players", who are all Hungarians according to Barreaud, Marc (1998). Dictionnaire des footballeurs étrangers du championnat professionnel français (1932-1997). L'Harmattan, Paris. ISBN 2-7384-6608-7..

  • Jozsef Ebner (1934-35 SO Montpellier) (born 1909)
  • Gergely (1934-35 FC Sète) formerly with Hungária
  • Adalbert Hawlik (1932-33 Nice) Played for Ferencvaros
  • Lorentz (1935-39 Red Star)
  • Karoly Mayer (1932-34 CA Paris, 1936-38 RC Strasbourg) or Ferenc ?[10] [11]
  • Mayer (1933-34 Lille)
  • Albert Nagy (1936-1939 RC Roubaix)
  • Nemes (1936-37 Mulhouse)
  • Karoly Pinter (1936-37 FC Mulhouse)
  • Edouard Schubert (1933-34 Nice, 1934-35 AS Cannes) (Maybe István Schubert?) Played for Ferencvaros
  • Szabo (1937-38 RC Lens)

If you can find their first name, or just confirm that they did play in France, it would help me a lot! Thanks, and keep up the good work!--Latouffedisco (talk) 09:35, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi and thanks for adding informations to the list, this is very useful!! I add here some details I know about some "mysterious players":
  • Mayer (1933-34 Lille) Seems he is not Karoly Mayer who played for CA Paris (32-34), Caen (34-36), Strasbourg (36-38) and Charleville (37-39)
  • Albert Nagy (1936-1939 RC Roubaix) could be in fact János Nagy (1903-1966?) who played for AS Cannes (1932-34). Albert would be his French name. It was very common in France to turn foreign names into French names, easier to understand (at least in France!!). If your book confirm that he played for Cannes, then it would be the same player for sure.
  • Karoly Pinter (1936-37 FC Mulhouse in Ligue 1) also played for Toulouse FC (1937) in 1938-39
  • Szabo (1937-38 RC Lens) mysterious. But it's true that Géza Szabó (1937-39 OSC Lille) and János Szabó (1934-38 FC Sochaux) played in France at that time.
  • Lorentz (1935-39 Red Star) Really mysterious

I will made further research and I will let you know if I find something. Of course I'm interested in this PDF. I will send you an e-mail. Thanks again and keep up the good work.Regards.--Latouffedisco (talk) 10:32, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Same Names edit

This move may be necessary, but I'm not sure "...(born 198X)" would be the preferred method (see the naming style MOS)... can the positions they play be used to distinguish them? (I don't know how often/if football/soccer players change positions) I'm just wondering, as one's a defender, one's a midfielder. Alternately, do they have what in America we would call a "middle" name?

Anyway, like I said, if it's reasonable, you might try something like "Zoltan Kiss (football midfielder)" and "Zoltan Kiss (football defender)" - seems like a more searchable term than "born 198X" (no guarantee people will know what year they were born in). Just some thoughts (I don't have major preferences other than trying to avoid the birth year method - the original move was before I found the other article). Guttmann Béla edit

Hi Gabute, I read your post about Guttmann's birthdate. Well, as you right said, sure he's not born in 1905, despite this mistake is very common among the portuguese press: in 2005 A Bola, one of the most important newspaper dealing with football, pubblished a sort of interview made up of many others released by Guttmann during his spell in Portugal, and this as a celebration of his 100th birthday! On the other hand, I must say that Guttmann was not even born in 1900, though you can read so on FIFA's website. His actual birthdate is 27 january 1899, according to his birth certificate pubblished on Live Auctioneers' site. By the way, I see you're an Ujpest expert, so I was wondering if you can increase that part of the article concerning Guttmann's tenure at the magyar club, obviously citing some source: it'd be interesting. Greetings. --87.6.119.22 (talk) 13:37, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dennis Dourandi moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Dennis Dourandi, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia).
