{{Help me}}

I must admit i feel quite a bit lost here! There seems to be so many various redundant help/edit/FAQ pages, which all seems to show varying formats and file names, on top of partial and slightly arbitrarily varying infos... Whenever i search for an info on how to edit a page or how to find & contact any admin for questions i don't find any answers for, i really don't know what to do.

Q. I did sign up to Wikipedia over 6 months ago, and immediately tried setting up a user page... but at some point it got deleted. Is this vandalism or do i have to contact an admin before setting up my own page?

  • No, setting up your own user page is not vandalism. I don't see what you did wrong. Do you recall the old username you created the page at?
    • I meant: "Could i have been victim to someone else's vandalism on my own user page?" And i've used the exact same username when trying to edit entries on both English & French wiki files/articles.

Q. Are there language issues i should be aware of, since i'll mainly edit in both English & French sections of WP?

  • All material on this wikipedia must be in English.
    • I meant: are there any wiki incompatibilities between its multiple language sections that i should be aware of, since i'll mainly edit in both English & French sections of WP?

Q. I was also never able to create many user boxes, since the shown syntax varied so much on the various pages where i found them, so only a few of them showed up correctly. Is it possible that many liguistic ones have been made obsolete?

Q. Is there any reliable & more complete resource on WP for those?

Back to my edits: the user took a great aerial photo and erroneously attributed it to the St. Lawrence River article, while it's a photo of 2 rivers running in parallel, but to the N-W of the former... I've edited both the Saint Lawrence River page where it appears and the user's image page, where i've corrected the text. I didn't want to simply erase his/her photo, so i've put it between HTML "remarks" brackets , but now wonder if i should proceed otherwise.

Q. How should i proceed in such cases? Contact the user or correct the info where it appears, while being as polite as possible, and perhaps provide them with info sources for corrections? Should i also correct the media info on its description page?

Thank you in advance for enlightening me... so i can become more efficient at correcting infos show on WP pages! Francsois (talk) 18:27, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Q. Do i need to have distinct user pages/names for each linguistic section of WP i may work on? (Never found any info on this on FAQs.)
