Anadyr (town)

I was using the map Wikipedia has on Russian federal highways, but if you have actually BEEN there, then you are more accurate than wikipedia! :P RingtailedFoxTalkContribs 03:55, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

No problem, I wasn't actually aware that road had an official designation. However, Anadyr is actually on the little peninsula on the other side of the water. It looks like that road links the airport with Ugolnye Kopi. Fenix down (talk) 05:59, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Right to Dream Academy

Hello Fenix down I hope this is the right means of getting in touch with you. Sorry about the inconveniences caused in the past two days. I am new to Wikipedia so please do forgive me for my mistakes as this is a learning process. I appreciate all the effort you put into correcting me and I know it is only making this article better. It may be extreme as I am asking but I ask that you don't block me as I have a deadline to meet. I am prepared to edit as many times as possible to meet Wikipedia requirements. Thank you Ayeley Commodore-Mensah (talk) 13:52, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

It is the right place to contact me. Don't worry about the inconveniences, everyone makes mistakes as they learn. I have to be honest though, if I had seen the last element of promotional material you added before it was reverted then I would have blocked you indefinitely as a promotion-only account, the only reason I haven't is that your edits since then do not seem to be particularly promotional. I am however, quite concerned when you say that you have a deadline to meet. Can you clarify what this means, please? Are you connected with Right to Dream? Are you being paid to edit this article. Whilst this is not forbidden, you should ensure that you stay well within the boundaries set out in WP:COI and particularly point 4 in the terms of use here. Fenix down (talk) 15:24, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I was reading the COI. I am not being paid to edit the Wikipedia page. I am a very meticulous person and I plan my activities. I have a schedule of things I want to do, and hopefully I would want to be done with the Wikipedia page edits and move on to other personal matters. That's why I say I have a deadline. Sorry about the mixup — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ayeley Commodore-Mensah (talkcontribs) 16:01, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Bangladesh Premier League

Hello, I believe the league is professional. Based on the following information and Sources : Run By Bangladesh Football Federation with codified rules involving transaction, doping etc. "The Bangladesh Football Federation (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ ফুটবল ফেডারেশন) is the governing body of football in Bangladesh, controlling the Bangladesh national football team. It was founded in 1972, and has been a member of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation since 1974." Source: History BFF BANGLADESH FOOTBALL FEDERATION Bangladesh Premier League (football) matches take place in National Stadiums, have foreign coaches. In the news:"Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), in its bid to increase the number of matches in the professional football league, has proposed a third phase for the Bangladesh Premier League in the upcoming season." and "The recommendations of the BFF’s Emergency Committee will be passed on to the Professional League Committee and if it is approved there, it will be sent to the executive committee to make it a rule." Members of the national team participate in the League including the captain of the National Team. 70000$ sponsorship deal. Is placed in the Bangladesh National league category by FIFA. Hi, I have responded here and at the relevant AfD discussions. i think you are getting confused with the notion of a professional league and the enWiki notability criterion of a "fully" professional league. I don't think there is anything in what you have provided that implies a fully professional status. Indeed, a number of the sources you cite, make no mention of any level of professionalism. PROD's of Romanian footballers

I wanted to let you know, I've removed your proposed deletions of Andrei Peteleu, Octavian Ionescu, Florin Țârcă, and Alin Bota. All four them have in fact played in Liga I. Unfortunately, Soccerway lists both Liga I and Liga II as LII in player profiles, making it an easy mistake to make. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:29, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for providing the protection on the Kerala Blasters FC page. Much needed since the team seems to refuse to release the name of their players right now until they are all signed. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 02:45, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of article 2015-16 season pf Pécsi MFC

Dear Fenix down,

Thank you for your message on my user page, i'm not sure if you get my reply there, so I write you here. I must say, that Im a bit disappionted with the reasoning you gave me. The mentioned club might not compete in the top flight, but has this ever been a problem in the case of any other soprts team? Take FC United of Manchester as an example, they are not and have never been close to any of the profession level of any league, or when Glasgow Rangers were sent to the lowest league of Scotland (which is exaclty the case with Pécsi MFC!) I can find millions of articles on Wikipedia with completely irrelevant info on irrelevant things, yet if people are interested in them, the articles can stay. There are a few thousand people interested in Pécsi MFC and every of its seasons, no matter if they play in the World Cup, 1st division or 100th division... Besides, keeping this article would be important for the sake of continuity. There is an article about their previous season, about the season before last season, etc. How would it look, that one season is missing, only because the team is not in the damn first league? I thought Wikipedia was a free place, where you can find info about everything, regardless of its popularity. Hopefully it won't disappoint me. Emberpók (talk) 13:03, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand your point entirely. There aren't any season articles on FC United of Manchester for the very reason, that they play at far too low a level to satisfy WP:NSEASONS and, to my knowledge, do not have sufficient significant, non-routine coverage to satisfy GNG. Regarding Rangers, I coincidentally made a comment about that here, where I stated that I think there is sufficent coverage about things that happened in the season to pass GNG. I don't understand what you mean by if people are interested in them, the articles can stay. Articles stay based on notability, not based on whether people find things interesting. The notion of continuity is not really relevant either. We don't keep articles because they have a use, only because they are notable.
You should note however, that I have only prodded the article. If you think that it does satisfy GNG, then please remove the prod and add sources that indicate this. this is not to say that the article won't still find its way to AfD to seek a wider consensus on its notability, but you should not feel like you can do nothing. About Football Ranking?

thanks for your message about Football Ranking. So, to be displayed, I need first time to present a 100% explanations, to can be understood by everybody? And then ..... my ranking is unofficial (and probably will remain so, because doesn't exista an official club ranking for clubs - IFFHS is not).... to be displayed on wikipedia, these dates must be added by other ... a neutral part? not by the creator of this ranking?

That's fine. I moved Exeter City to the full name because we had Exeter City L.F.C. as a redirect to Cullompton Rangers L.F.C., but also an article on the current Exeter City at Exeter City LFC. The redirect contained some history which I didn't know if they were kept for the purpose of attribution. Am happy with the current title if you're okay with the history deletion. Iraq–Jordan football rivalry

HI, can u see this article , may be u can help me Kurdistantolive (talk) 16:43, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, sorry, but I don't see this as notable enough for a rivalry. To my mind, this fails NRIVALRY, no indication of GNG, simply a list of results vilating WP:NOTSTATS. You need to provide sourced prose from reliable sources indicating discussion of an actual rivalry, not simply a list of results. The fact that two teams have played each other a number of times does not mean there is a de facto rivalry. Fenix down (talk) 08:09, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

FC Yakutiya Yakutsk

Hi there.

I think I figured out what the problem is. I mistakenly provided the link to the squad list for the 2014-15 season as the reference. The proper squad for the current season (2015-16) is actually here.

Soccerway is generally very up-to-date and accurate, with one small caveat - if they had a player on the squad list for last season and this player is removed from a current season squad, but at the same time he is not registered for any other team that they cover (he's taking a sabbatical or playing for an amateur-level team or whatever), and they don't have any information that the player has retired, such players sometime mistakenly stay on their "current season squad" for the team in question.

So the proper way would be to revert back to my version and change the PFL squad link to the current season. Sounds reasonable?

Hey Fenix Down, hope all is well! I see the interest you have on our page and I think all the edits you made allowed us to upload content in the correct way and its been a great help for us so far!

I wanted to know your opinion of the page and possibly any subjects you think we can add? We are a small team with big dreams and are trying to raise our profile while staying legitimate and official.

Also I wanted to ask how can you upload designs for football kits, we've been having trouble using the half design called _redhalf2. How do you include this in the code for the infobox football club template?

Thanks again and stay in touch! (Hassan.o.daoud (talk) 12:41, 21 October 2015 (UTC))

Hi Hassan, so sorry for not replying sooner, I kept meaning to and kept forgetting! I'm glad I have been able to help with the article. Overall, my opinion is that it is looking quite good as a basic article. I would offer the following points by way of guidance:
  1. I would be careful about what you add in terms of using the article to raise the profile of the club. Within reason, you can add any factual content you want, but I would try to steer clear of anything in terms of content or tone that could be seen as promotional.
  2. Additionally, you seem to be involved directly with the club. As such you should probably be aware of WP:COI, although more as a formality, as I don't see anything in the article that would cause any concerns.
  3. Regarding content additions, it would be useful to have a bit more on the history of the club. I know you are a young club but an outline of how the 2015 season has gone with reference to sources (probably local newspapers and sources don't have to be online ones) would be useful, although per WP:NSEASONS the club is not significant enough for this to warrant a standalone article.
  4. It's probably not a good idea to add to many statistical tables per WP:NOTSTATS, but this is not to say they are forbidden. You might want to have a look at this article where I added a historical performance table.
  5. In general I would just browse articles for the other clubs at your level and steal templates and formats from them.
  6. You might also want to look at Template:Cite Web and its relatives to make the references look a smart.
  7. Finally, I also noted that the logo you uploaded you described as your own work. I am not doubting this, but you should be aware that if it is, by uploading it to Wikimedia Commons, you have released the image for use by anyone else. I actuality logos are almost never free to use as the club wants to retain copyright. they can be used under fair use rationales though, but in this instance should be uploaded directly to Wikipedia. If the logo genuinely is free (and you would need a source to indicate that it was) and you are happy for it to be on Wikimedia Commons and be used by anyone else for whatever they want that is not a problem. If however, you would like a bit more protection for the logo, I am happy to help have it deleted from Commons and then I can reupload it to Wikipedia for you with a proper fair use rationale.

I hope this is helpful, do let me know if you have any other questions. Fenix down (talk) 08:31, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Greenlandic Men's Football Championship

Hey Fenix, how's it going? This is gonna sound kinda funny, but what made you lose your mind and do these Greenlandic football articles? Hahaha. They can be so painful! I'm actually writing this to say that I really like your set up of the 1959-60 tournament page. Including the coat of arms for the teams is very simple and yet pretty's up the article quite a bit! Also, I noticed on your page that you've spent weeks in Greenland? What was that like? Where abouts did you go? (Sorry for the 20 questions, I've just never spoken to anyone who has been). Reckon there's any chance of a Greenlandic champion coming from the are of Northeast Greenland National Park, with its lack of permanent population? :P - J man708 (talk) 20:57, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi J Man. I like editing the football articles that lie on the fringes of the global game, mainly because they get little attention from anyone else so there is always plenty to do and your unlikely to get into any arguments with other editors. It's always nice though when someone else is involved in the same topic and I saw you were doing bits with the more modern seasons so I thought I would start at the other end and hopefully meet somewhere in the middle!
Thanks for the comments on the articles I have done so far, getting that map done was an effort, especially since RSSSF does not romanize the syllabics the same as WP! Regarding the coat of arms, normally I wouldn't add stuff like that as it is thought of as unnecessary fluff, but in this instance, given the regional set up of the rounds, I thought it made things clearer than dry text.
I have indeed been to Greenland, I spent a couple of weeks sailing in Kejser Franz Josef Fjord and Scoresby Sund, as well as visiting Ittoqqortoormiit on the east coast. It was amazing, very barren, but beautiful at the same time. The weather was great too. Definitely something I would recommend, although it is easier to go to the west coast. You never know about an east coast champion some time. There is a football pitch in Ittoqqortoormiit so if they could solve the transport issue, you never know. Just a shame no one was playing when I was there! Fenix down (talk) 13:51, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
Hahaha! No arguments indeed! Those articles really do look very well presented. It's a pity that the newer articles might not be as easy to make look as good! As for visiting Greenland, the remoteness of it all would be such a shock to my systems! Greenland needs to hurry up and get accepted into FIFA and CONCACAF/UEFA. Having an island of that size shown greyed out on FIFA maps on Wikipedia just looks wrong! - J man708 (talk) 23:55, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for the delay - been busy in real life! We might see Greenland in CONCACAF soon(-ish). I believe that now artificial pitches have been approved they are building one in Nuuk, so there is potential for admittance if they get that completed. It would be fun to see some of the more tropical concacaf teams having to play matches in mid December in Greenland! Fenix down (talk) 12:09, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Jamaica vs Greenland played on artificial turf, surrounded by a tundra blizzard... That reminds me of playing FIFA back in the day and making it snow in home games for the Northern Fury FC, which would be apocalyptic-style weather for such a tropical area. CONCACAF would be a lot easier to join than UEFA, despite the cultural ties to Scandinavia (admittedly, they do have ties to Nunavut in Canada. The sad thing about it is a few years back I got my hopes up for a Greenlandic national team to play on the pitch at Maniitsoq, but then I found out that it wasn't nearly full sized. I hope the one in Nuuk really is full sized. The lack of recent news since the announcement is a little concerning, however... - J man708 (talk) 02:59, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
It is a bit concerning as well as a catch 22 situation. They need the pitch to stand any chance of FIFA membership but need FIFA money to fund the pitch afaik, so it's a case of if FIFA want them they'll get it. I don't really know how they play on the dirt and gravel pitches around the country, I can't imagine there are many sliding tackles! Fenix down (talk) 15:39, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Proposed Deletion of Muhammad Syazwan Tajuddin

The same issue I had with the user, GiantSnowman. How many times do I have to tell you guys the same thing over and over again? Muhammad Syazwan Tajuddin will play in the Malaysia Super League which is a Fully-Professional League. The same issue with Muhd Syafiq Ahmad. THEY WILL PLAY IN A FULLY-PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE NEXT SEASON! Now please Mr. Fenix. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 00:23, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

And when they play in the Super League they will meet a notability guideline. At the moment they do not and as such are not notable. Articles are created because the subject is notable, not in advance of notability. Please see WP:CRYSTAL for reasons why this is not appropriate. When / if any of these players play you can contact me, Giant Snowman or any other admin and we will happily restore the article and it's history. Fenix down (talk) 07:09, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Notable former players

Hi, before just arbitrarily removing lists of notable former players from football club articles I have contributed to, could you do me the courtesy of contacting me first so I can bring them up to standard. What you are doing at the moment in my opinion is bordering on vandalism. DjlnDjln (talk) 22:10, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Please read the manual of style clearly linked in the edit summary. All lists of notable players need clear inclusion criteria. Fenix down (talk) 22:15, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Vandalism is vandalism, does not matter how you dress it up or try to justify it. Please do the decent thing and contact me or relevant editor directly, thank you. DjlnDjln (talk) 14:20, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
You're talking nonsense. There is a clear manual of style arrived at by consensus and the onus is on you and every other editor to follow it. What do you propose I do, trawl through diffs, often lacking an edit summary, looking for the edits where elements were added / removed and drop a note on everyone who contributed's talk page asking if they would mind actually doing what has been agreed should be done? What happens when many editors have edited a list? What happens when that editor is no longer contributing? Your suggestion obviously wouldn't work. What would work is if you would follow the agreed consensus and add a clear list of inclusion criteria that not only inform the reader why this list takes the shape that it does, but also what sort of individuals would be appropriate to add to it. That would be infinitely preferable than dumping what is ostensibly a random list of players into an article with no indication why they are notable other than the fact that you, or whoever added them, thinks they are. Fenix down (talk) 14:52, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting my edits on Radomiak Radom and Motor Lublin. It makes me feel so good to see my time and work destroyed in such a nice fashion. Continue and watch the number of Wikipedia editors go down. Cheers Tymek (talk) 02:30, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Firstly it's not destroyed, it's still there in the edit history. Secondly, you can still add it back, you just need to provide reliable sources to back up the content you added. Per WP:V all statements need to be verifiable, this is a fundamental tenet of enwiki; you simply cannot go around adding paragraph after paragraph of unreferenced content. Imagine if editors added such an amount of unreferenced text to even a small proportion of the 5000000 articles on enWiki, We would have thousands and thousands of articles full of unreferenced content. Do please add back what you wrote but please add sources to the text as well. Fenix down (talk) 07:03, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia is a great project, which is based on cooperation of all editors. I add some information, somebody else adds more, plus the references. My time is extremely limited, I do all I can, hoping that other editors will help. And then there are people like you. Keep up your good work, there is much more to revert or delete. Tymek (talk) 21:42, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry you feel the way you do but to be honest I don't know how much clearer I can be, WP:V is one of the most fundamental tenets on enWiki, you cannot ignore it. You have added large swathes of unreferenced information. I'm not sure why you are finding it so hard to grasp the fact that you should be adding references to your content but maybe I just need to be blunt with you: it would be better if you added nothing than paragraphs of unreferenced text. The value of enwiki is lessened by contributions like that and it is not other editors responsibility to spend their time trying to find sources for content that you cannot be bothered to reference. Please do not continue to behave in this manner. Fenix down (talk) 22:10, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Spaces in headings

Hi there, I just saw this edit. Not that I have preference for either style but the Manual of style suggests headings with or without spaces are fine: "Spaces between the equal signs and the heading text are optional, and will not affect the way the heading is displayed". So I'm curious as to why you bother with removing spaces in headings? Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 10:44, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

It's just a script that picks up a large number of things. On that article it was the only thing to change. It was quicker for me to make the change than leave the page as I have a pop up set to appear when I back out of the edit page to stop me leaving and losing work. Fenix down (talk) 11:58, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
I see. However, I still wonder why that would be something you'd include in the script at all. Robby.is.on (talk) 16:13, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
I know, I'm not really sure, presumably because the script also checks for imbalanced headings I think and the person who developed it was a pedant! Fenix down (talk) 16:14, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
The script is actually making sure that all headers on the page are formatted the same way (which is what the MOS intent is anyway). If the majority of them have spaces, the script will add spaces to the headers which don't have them, and if the majority of them don't have spaces (as was the case here), then it'll remove them from the headers which do have them. If it's an exact 50/50 split, the script leaves the judgement up to its human master :)—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 13, 2015; 16:23 (UTC)
Oh, very good. Thanks to both of you for educating me. ;-) Have a good weekend, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:34, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Selangor FA

Good morning Fenix Down. I have seen you updating (mostly undoin my updates hehe...) Malaysian football related articles. I have realised you have... again undone my article update on Selangor FA... and trust me, it's not a good faith edit. I was just re-adding the contents that was deleted by abusers before the page was semi-protected. And I will try to get references for the edits I have made. So please do NOT re-undo my undo.... Hewkiivorox (talk) 07:35, 29 October 2015‎ (UTC) REALLY FENIX DOWN?! REALLY?!! I have a source, what else do you want for it to be approved?! I am just writing what it says on the source! Tell me 10 reasons you removed the content. Because it is the same as before? Because I used the same source as before? Now I am VERY unsatisfied...

You need to learn to read edit summaries. I reverted because of the similarities between the source and what you wrote. Basically they are so close to essentially be a copyright issue. This is very serious. If you revert again without substantially altering the text you will be blocked. Fenix down (talk) 21:18, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
Alright then Fenix Down, I will edit the contents so it won't be a copyright. But what is with the Supporters section? Can you tell me that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 05:02, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Morning Fenix, can you tell me 10 reasons you are patrolling me? Did I do anything wrong or suspicious? Just wondering.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 14:39, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm not patrolling your edits in particular. However I do normally pay very close attention to Malaysian and Indonesian club articles less as they historically have been subject to vandalism, poor sourcing and copyright violations so I simply pay close attention to edits made to those articles. Fenix down (talk) 18:40, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
DUDE! I do not need sources for these ones! I have putted a link for the recent transfers in the Malaysia Super League. Try clicking that link before deleting my edits. It shows all the transfers that I made. You don't have to delete/undo every edit that I made just because there is no source. But for the fact, the source was there all along. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 15:32, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
And that list is completely unreferenced. You can't just link to another unreferenced WP page and say that it is sourced! Additionally, your list of goalscorers is also completely unreferenced. Please take this as a warning, do not add any more unreferenced content to this or any other article. Fenix down (talk) 15:42, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Man it is hard to talk to you, what else do I need? Other football club pages can simply add the goalscorer and transfer lists. Kedah FA can add the list of transfers from the SAME source that I had. Perak FA can add their list of goalscorers from the SAME source, and some of them doesn't even has a source! I have the source from the 2004-2015 Malaysia League page, where Perak FA placed the list on the years before 2004, and they do not have a source. Did you undo my edits because you hate me? Or because there is no source when the source was there all along. And why don't you delete all the unreferenced players in the List of Malaysian Football Transfers 2015? Why are you only brave enough to go against me? I am starting to get sick of this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 04:23, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a source. The fact that there is unreferenced content in other articles is no excuse for you repeated addition of unsourced statistics despite repeated warnings. Do not under any circumstances continue to do this. You will be blocked for increasingly long periods of time each time you do. Fenix down (talk) 09:46, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Hello? Why did you deleted the line-up? If it is a match to match line-up and formation then you can't use that excuse, because the ones at Pahang FA's Wikipedia page remained there and it isnt updated in months? Explanation please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewkiivorox (talkcontribs) 09:32, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
It obvious why from the edit summary, it's unreferenced (and if we have to go through that again you will find yourself blocked again) as well as the fact that the line up will change from game to game as will the formation. I was unaware of the Pahang line up, but have now removed that for the same reasons. there is no need for a line up graphic except for matches notable to the extent that they justify a standalone article. Template

Do you know to create a template ? for Port Vila Football League and VFF National Super League like you did Template:ASFA Soccer League. Thanks!--Alexiulian25 (talk) 12:09, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Alex, I do and can do one if you like, or you can take the code for the ASFa one, copy it into Template:Port Vila Football League and replace the American Samoan clubs and seasons with ni-Vanuatu ones. Fenix down (talk) 13:21, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
You can do one, and I to have a model, and after I finish with my edits today I will do the another one. Thanks !--Alexiulian25 (talk) 15:21, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi Alex, I have prepared a Port Vila template here and a Super League template here. Hope they are useful. For the super league, I have only included links to the season articles rather than current clubs as there simply aren't enough articles on the clubs, so there would be an awful lot of redlinks, but these can be added later. Let me know if you have any questions. You can add them to the foot of articles using {{Port Vila Football League}} and {{VFF National Super League}} respectively. Fenix down (talk) 11:14, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I already add them for each league page.I understand, I do not like even when there is a lot of red links, but I tried to edit the Super League one, because 2008 and 2009 seasons already exist, and I can not edit it. Before 2010 the competition was known as VFF Bred Cup, so instead of 2009 VFF National Super League is 2009 VFF Bred Cup, also with the past edition, if you can change it.
Now it looks better this Vanuatu league, I am back now to edit European Football, I am now on List of Austrian football champions, I add all the information in tables, and I add the Runners-up also. Same things need to be done in Austrian Cup and Austrian Supercup--Alexiulian25 (talk) 15:30, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
It certainly does, thank you very much for helping out in a very neglected area of the project. I hope you will continue to add valuable content to Oceanian football articles. Fenix down (talk) 15:33, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I will do it, there is a lot of red links, let me know if you find more valuable references for Oceania Football, apart from rsssf.com, because even there are lots of seasons and data with "unknown" and this will create more red links and lack of information on Wikipedia.--Alexiulian25 (talk) 15:47, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I also improved Oceania Club Championship and OFC Champions League records and statistics and OFC Champions League, it looks much better, there is 3 OFC Champions League finals without a separate page, in rest are pretty good articles.--Alexiulian25 (talk) 15:52, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

How I edit this template? the 2008 and 2009 editions exist under the other name.--Alexiulian25 (talk) 15:31, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Alex, sorry for the delay. the reason you couldn't edit it is because I made an error naming the template. I have corrected this and changed the links (under the assumption that all competitions prior to 2009 were called the Bred Cup). You should be able to edit the template as necessary now. Population

Hi, Fenix, how've you been?

As you know, I'm slowly making my way adding administrative/municipal details to the articles on districts, and am approaching those of the Sakha Republic. I'll do the same thing I've done with other districts, but here I have to additionally deal with the lists of inhabited localities which you added a while ago. Now, I do agree that having those lists is generally helpful (although maybe not in articles about, say, Yaroslavl Oblast, where there are literally hundreds of localities in each district), but I wonder if including population stats, and especially male/female distributions, might be an overkill. And while removing the population counts which are already there is most likely counterproductive, the male/female distributions seem to fall under WP:RAWDATA, and it's not like they are particularly interesting anyway? I mean, they are all going to fluctuate around 50/50, give or take a few percent, and even in places where this ratio is way off, it would probably be best to explain the reasons in the article's text. Did you perhaps have a reason for including those which I'm not seeing? Would it be too awful if I started taking them out as I make my way through the Sakha's districts?

Also, the tables you added all address only the municipal composition. Do you have any thoughts on how to best include the administrative aspect? Years ago I tried doing this, but apparently it turned out to be too confusing (I eventually had to take that table out in order for the article to make FL). Any ideas you might have would be greatly appreciated!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 6, 2015; 15:03 (UTC)

Hi Hedgehogs!I've not been to bad thanks, hope you are doing well. To be honest, I think I only started adding in the gender distributions because they were there in the census data file. I don't see them as being excessive stats, but you are right that they generally are about a 50:50 split all the time, so probably don't add much value to the overall table, so I don't mind if you feel that they should go.
I deliberately avoided the administrative split as well because I felt it would be too difficult to incorporate. I think your table is a decent attempt to combine the two views into one, but it isn't really an easy read. The only way I can think to solve this would be to have separate tables but collapsed so as not to take up too much space, but then, how much difference would there be between tables, I don't think there would be much i the areas I have worked on so it would probably be overkill. Perhaps a combination of separate collapsed tables where there are significant variations and notes where there are only a couple of differences between structure in a given district.
For districts where there are a large number of settlements, would a fork to a "list off..." article be appropriate? Not that I intend to create any such tables any time soon!
On a related matter, I noticed recently that the coverage of Magadan Oblast was very threadbare. I tried to pull together some draft tables for the various districts here, but am not sure that I have got them right. Some sources indicated that all settlements in each district were now subordinated directly to the district centre, but I wasn't sure whether that applied both to administrative and municipal and I'm afraid my rudimentary Russian will only get me so far on the state statistic websites. Any comments you have on these would be gratefully received, as I wouldn't want to move them to the mainspace until I am confident they are correct. Thanks. Fenix down (talk) 17:01, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the ideas! I'll be removing the gender distributions as I work on the articles but will leave the population count alone. I'm just a little squeamish imagining every district article having this information and then having to update it all come 2020 Census :)
With the administrative vs. municipal tables, you are right that the differences (at least for the Sakha Republic) are going to be pretty minor. What I'll do is add my typical summary on the structures (example) and then move your table to a separate subsection immediately below. If a better solution comes to mind, I'll make sure to run it by you; please let me know if you think of something yourself.
For districts with a number of localities, a "list of..." could be an acceptable solution, but I was also thinking about perhaps just listing the low-level divisions and then incorporating the localities lists into the articles about those divisions (so, for example, an article on "X District" would have a list of (linked) selsoviets, and the articles on those selsoviets would contain the actual lists of localities). That should be manageable, although a bunch of set index articles to sort out the selsoviets and the rural settlements will need to be created first (I continue working on automating that particular task, by the way).
To answer your question about Magadan Oblast, it is actually currently undergoing a major restructuring, with the municipal districts being transformed into urban okrugs. I'm waiting for things to stabilize a bit (the process was still ongoing as of this October) and will have to update a whole bunch of stuff then. If you could hold off until the high-level articles are updated, it should make the rest of your work much easier. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 6, 2015; 17:55 (UTC)
Sorry for not replying sooner! Well if I am still here in 2020, then I'll do the one's I created! I think the example you gave above as a preamble is the best solution. The municipal tables as they are contain a lot of idiosyncratic jargon that the casual reader wouldn't necessarily completely understand, double tables would be a bit of overkill, but the introductory paragraph is useful as it provides clarification through links on all the jargon and is the most concise way of summarising what will in most instances be minor changes. That said, two tables might be warranted in the odd district where administrative and municipal boundaries are markedly different, but I cant imagine that would be very many like that.
Definitely agree that once there are individual selsoviet articles that they should contain a small table for inhabited localities and the localities removed from the main district article.
Thanks for you comments on Magadan Oblast, I had a feeling from what I was trying to read that they were in the midst of something big. If I understand you correctly, is the restructure essentially going to create one urban okrug per district with the current district centre also the administrative centre of the urban okrug and all other inhabited localities within the district also subordinate to the urban okrug centre? Let me know when the high level articles are updated. Fenix down (talk) 08:02, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
OK, I've started with Abyysky District (one where the administrative and municipal divisions match) and Aldansky District (where they are significantly different). If you could comment/suggest changes before I go with this pattern for the rest of the articles, that would be appreciated.
With Magadan Oblast, yes, that's the gist. They are essentially doing away with the municipal district concept, transforming them all into urban okrugs (which, given the sparsity of population, actually makes a whole lot of sense). It doesn't look they are planning to match this change on the administrative side, though, (at least not yet) so the administrative districts will likely stay the way they are (and so will the Magadan Oblast district articles we have).—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 16, 2015; 17:23 (UTC)
Looking at Aldansky district, I think that is about as clear as you can be without overly complicating. The only two small changes I would make would be to clarify the heading of the inhabited localities column to say and also make the notes perhaps a little smaller to make them clearer given the similarity between the administrative note and the original municipal statement, perhaps something like this:
Administrative / municipal composition
Settlements/Urban settlements Population[1] Inhabited localities in municipal jurisdiction
Leninsky
(Ленинский)
3,051
(administratively, a part of the Settlement of Lebediny)
(administratively, a part of the Settlement of Lebediny)
Perhaps this is a little clearer? Fenix down (talk) 10:40, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
That's awesome; thanks! I'll start doing the other districts where the divisions don't match this way.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); November 17, 2015; 15:18 (UTC)
